Score from 847 reviews Very good
Excellent room, corner room, shower, TV, tea & coffee plentiful and bathroom facilities also good. Dinner in the restaurant was also very good. Had to go early so no breakfast.
Not able to access Wi Fi in room and you have to go in the Bar. On site parking not good.
Good location for getting around to various places of interest.Overall very impressed with the service given by the employees,in particular the breakfast staff, the breakfast itself was excellent, the room nice, tidy and clean and roomy.
The only negative for me was the rather small sized car park that came with the hotel. On the plus side it was free, and because my visit was out of season i did not have a problem finding a space for my car.
The hotel was shabby and depressing in the extreme. Carpets threadbare, hadn't been decorated since the dark ages! Room was dismal and hadn't been cleaned properly.
Bedroom very nicely done
Bathroom in need or refurb
I don't think you could beat it for value for money
lovely room plenty of light and freshair shower fabulous room excellent in general
bacon at breakfast looked as though it had been scrunched up and left for ages
Room very clean and comfortable, very good food choice
Car parking very tight...
Drinks where fairly price breakfast was ok
You had secondrey double glazing but it was broken the water went off we was told this but was not told it when it back on so did not use shower before we left
The deep bath and ample sized room
The creaky floorboards but they are expected in an old hotel
The location was good with bus stop just outside.
The WiFi didn't work n Noone seemed that bothered about fixing it for us
Meal in Resturant superb Breakfast Excellent Price Excellent Room Clean Staff Friendly 2 year old was happy
Car park a bit tight
Position was very good in the centre of town opposite the Info centre and the Library, both very helpful. Also right next to the town hall for the monthly movie night which was great, people very friendly.
The meals were a bit ordinary but Ok for one or two days. I've never had tinned tomatoes for breakfast any where else, ot tinned tomato soup!!
The rooms didn't seem clean, beds not uncomfortable and noisy hotel, completely awful nights sleep!
We were upgraded to an executive room on arrival which we thought was nice, however this was the only good thing that happened !!(see comments below)
Our room smelt of wet baby nappies which was quite off putting,we couldn't get into the restaurant for breakfast & when we finally did there were no clean tables, the food wasn't very warm & no staff to be seen,I had to find clean cutlery to use myself also it would be nice to see some sort of uniform for the staff in reception so you know who they are
The room was spacious and recently decorated with good bathroom facilities and charming original windows.
'Clean' sheets left on floor in corridor waiting for rooms to be made up, luckily we saw this on our way out. Car parking limited.
The character of the Hotel - so much more interesting to stay in than the modern chains that have absolutely NO character! The friendly, helpful staff. A chef who knows how to cook steak to perfection and serves salad with a good dressing! Good beer, well kept. Comfortable bed in a spacious room!
Inconsistency of service in the restaurant - it would be so easy to train the staff to ensure that one didn't have to ask for e.g. side plates at breakfast, condiments at dinner and extra cutlery to match the meal ordered. A little effort would make a big difference - the staff were good and anxious to please but obviously lacked some basic training. No towel rail in our bathroom was a bit of a nuisance.
I liked that it was located in the centre of town close to everything. The room was large, clean and very comfortable.
The car park is a bit small and appears to be occupied by non patrons. The WiFi was poor but it wasn't a big problem for me.
It's an old rambling building that still retains a lot of character, so don't expect anything too swish. The room I had was spacious and clean, nicely furnished. The restaurant and food were excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. I had a pleasant stay of just one night.
If you happen to get a room overlooking the pub courtyard as I did, then it can be a bit noisy if it's a warm summers' evening, but it wasn't a problem and everything quietens down after closing time. Parking is tight, very limited space. The rooms could be checked a bit more thoroughly maybe, as the bathroom light in mine was a hit-and-miss affair and the bulb in the bedside lamp had blown, but the staff were quick to replace it. Noisy fire doors that tended to slam rather than close gently - glad I wasn't too close to one!
Not enough staff to cope at certain times. The room we stayed in could do with a refurb.
All the staff were friendly and very helpful, rooms a bit tired but the bed was comfortable and the rooms clean and tidy. For the room rate I paid it was value for money and in a lovely small market town very central for days out. They are trying hard to make the hotel work and investing when they can.
The breakfast during the week wasn't all that great and only slightly better at the weekends, but you get what you pay for.
Very comfortable bed , huge room. Good service and lovely grub.
The friendliness of all staff
Friendly staff and nice breakfast
Bathroom - shower not good, sealing round bath mouldy and lighting terrible
Male staff surly and unhelpful , door to my room left open all day for five days even after complaining twice !
Large room, (an executive double room. The jacuzzi worked well.
The shower door didn't close well, and water got on the floor.
