It's an old rambling building that still retains a lot of character, so don't expect anything too swish. The room I had was spacious and clean, nicely furnished. The restaurant and food were excellent and the staff friendly and attentive. I had a pleasant stay of just one night.
If you happen to get a room overlooking the pub courtyard as I did, then it can be a bit noisy if it's a warm summers' evening, but it wasn't a problem and everything quietens down after closing time. Parking is tight, very limited space. The rooms could be checked a bit more thoroughly maybe, as the bathroom light in mine was a hit-and-miss affair and the bulb in the bedside lamp had blown, but the staff were quick to replace it. Noisy fire doors that tended to slam rather than close gently - glad I wasn't too close to one!
Not enough staff to cope at certain times. The room we stayed in could do with a refurb.
All the staff were friendly and very helpful, rooms a bit tired but the bed was comfortable and the rooms clean and tidy. For the room rate I paid it was value for money and in a lovely small market town very central for days out. They are trying hard to make the hotel work and investing when they can.
The breakfast during the week wasn't all that great and only slightly better at the weekends, but you get what you pay for.
The friendliness of all staff
Friendly staff and nice breakfast
Bathroom - shower not good, sealing round bath mouldy and lighting terrible
Rooms clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant food good value although the surroundings are basic.
Very limited parking. Located on a noisy main road. Room too hot and if you open the windows see above.
Very original, staff great, Steak night good value
Bathroom rough, shower not working
Clean and tidy
We stayed on a Fri night so a late bar would have been good!
Helpful staff who gave me an upgrade of room for the second night which was excellent. The first room should never have been in use in that condition.
I was initially given a room that was in extremely poor condition - drawers all falling apart, toilet not cleaned (making room smelly), bed had been sat/laid on, straw on floor, basin light not working.
Staff were pleasant.
Bed was comfortable , breakfast was good .
Very sad old rooms, needs a good renovation. Bathroom was awful, holes on the wall around the bath , shower was very hard get working, and a terrible shower curtain.
Nice area plus surroundings.
staff friendly. food, clean towels, bedding and hot water
shower did not work and bathroom very smelly. Hall and staircase needs to be decorated and carpet was worn in places
Big Bedroom Good bathroom Comfy bed Good breakfast Good Beer and wine Fluffy towels
Noise from the road. Only one chair in a large double bedroom.
the room smelt of wet dog and musty
Comfortable, clean bed in a large room facing the front of the hotel. Quiet night. Breakfast was good. Evening bar food looked nice but not tried due to our schedule.
The bathroom toilet and basin needed a better clean - attention to detail required. Limited on site parking; so used Pay and Display across the road behind houses. No problem. Take care: put money in the machine by 8 a.m.
nr to where we needed to stay
Dirty cutlery and dining room, bedroom also dusty and grubby. Had to make one bed as sheet thrown on. Disappointed as photo's not representative of location. Event on when we arrived so no parking although web site advertised parking. Had to find limited parking on street.
We attended a wedding nearby, and knew we would be late back from the venue however staff were very helpful on the phone and when we arrived, allowing us to check in early. The executive room was huge and tastefully decorated with a great shower and fluffy towels. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.
The bed didn't quite match the quality of the room. If one of you moved the other nearly bounced off!
Amazing value for money. Would have happily paid twice as much
The only thing that let the room down was the shower which was poor
Glad we had the executive double, obviously being refurbished, did not affect our stay, we didn't dine in but the breakfast very well cooked
parking limited, but we where very fortunate and parked in courtyard
Difficult to do an accurate review with only a one night stay but my room was clean well stocked. The staff were pleasant, attentive, when necessary and quietly got on with doing their jobs. I have no complaints.
clean , nice room , good nights sleep and all staff were helpful and friendly.
room had lovely décor staff very helpful and remembered I had stayed before Location central to shops and take aways Buffet breakfast is LUSH
No late bar
The lobby and coffee lounge were quite lovely and quaint, even though there was a huge leak at the time due to rain. They let us use the room to get changed for a wedding, even though room wasn't ready yet and was before check in which was nice of them. Lunch staff- one quite rude woman serving but lunch was really nice. The room we were in was gorgeous and have nothing bad to say about it at all. Good location and would recommend it.
When we asked roughly how long the food would take for lunch as we were off to a wedding.. the serving lady said "I don't know.. You should have just ordered earlier" which left a bit of a bad taste. The car park was a little cramped and the main restaurant was closed for refurb, but that's all really!
