Score from 280 reviews Excellent
We were allocated a small double room (room 212) which had the extractor fan trunking from the kitchen running very close to the room. This was noisy until about 9.30 pm and started again early in the morning ready for the preparation of breakfasts. We were visiting family in the area and would stay here again but not in room 212. In Room 212 it was easy to lock yourself in the bathroom because the door was sticking and couldn't be opened from the inside. The tap over the washbasin was loose. The brackets for a shelf were there but no shelf. The bath had a shower over but we couldn't get the bath to fill. Water only came out of the shower not the taps.
The staff at breakfast were pleasant and friendly and we had a very good full English breakfast.
There are obvious areas which had been upgrade ( restaurant ) however the room we were in is in need of refurbishment (wallpaper peeling off, bath side was split, shower leaked onto floor etc)
The staff were friendly, helpful from the start to the end of our stay. The room we were given was large with a good sitting area (attic room - mind the low beams on the way up)
Rooms are rather old and in fact, the whole place feels aged. Gives the feeling of living in bygone era. There are no elevators and so have to manage your own luggage if you are on the upper floors. Good for a night's stopover if you are on a long drive without breaking the bank.
Bathroom tiling covered in mildew. Bedroom carpet used by the builders of the property a couple hundred years ago. Outside area covered in cigarette ends The whole place needs completely knocking down and rebuilding. The owners should be ashamed We had to Ask for toast at breakfast it was never offered
Rooms were shabby and need modernisation. Carpets need to be thrown away.
The Staff and the food 5 stars!
The wifi was no good.
The breakfast was very good the young lady who served was a delight. Was offerd room upgrade the 2nd night.
heating in room not on. Wifi only in lobby,
Loud live music from bar when we went to the room, but it stopped around 9.30pm so not too bad
Very fair price
saniflo on toilet noisy for to long
meal good value
i would take my own kettle and a mug next time -
Central location - great for visiting other places of interest
It was a good location.
1. The shower door did not lock properly, which nearly causes a major problem. 2. There was a noise abatement screen in one window but not the other, which was located next to the bed. 3. On trying to secure the door, with the door handle I trapped my fingers in the door frame!
A very well laid out room and very spacious.
Wi-fi signal was very weak. Place was a bit run down.
Good price. Location.
Very soft bed and the bathroom smelt of drains
Hotel could benefit from a little TLC, maybe some new carpets and sometimes no staff on reception (working between bar and reception)
Room was quiet and bed comfortable, staff were helpful. Attic room was quiet and felt like home for the duration of my stay
The friendness and disponibility of staff. The food.
Bathroom was in need of serious updating and felt not as clean as it could be. Shower was awful (hot & cold, lack of pressure). Breakfast was cold, had to ask for toast a second time and teas coffees undrinkable
Very big rooms and en-suite, comfy bed
This was booked last minute only because it was the closest to where we needed to be. The hallway stank, there was a hole in the bathroom ceiling. The whole place could do with being painted
You get what you pay for I suppose
bad decor bathroom
Lack of wi-fi in room and breakfast
Room, location and cost
When I arrived at the hotel,I duly paid by card at reception for my stay. When I got home the next day I received an email from them telling me I had accidentally left without paying and could I phoned them!I was furious and when I contacted them they still said I hadn't paid.I had the receipt in my hand and described the person who took my payment but I received no proper apology.I have been trying to find out the location of the head office of the hotel group without success so far,as I want to complain.I was not very impressed with the hotel anyway and this just added to my dissatisfaction.
Reception staff were unwelcoming when we arrived. Shower was the old tap design over the bath and was difficult to balance the heat of the water.
Breakfast was good. Bed was comfortable. Restaurant staff were friendly. Room was very roomy and nice & warm.
The person who was at reception could have been more pleasant.I believe there had been some misunderstanding over upgrading and the booking through booking.com. As it happened we didn't care about being upgraded as the room was perfectly adequate but his attitude was rather abrupt.
the breakfast was really nice in very pleasant surroundings
Room on front very nosey even though I request a quite room
It slot this week
