We had a sea view room with a four poster bed. Fantastic views to be had. The swimming pool was welcoming as the weather was kind to us. Food was excellent, and the dining room ambiance was very pleasant.
Only issue was the Wi-Fi connection and the mobile phone network connection. It forced us to really get away from it all, which after all was the reason for the weekend break.
The room we were given was room 16 and the room was so hot that we were unable to sleep even having Windows open and a noisy fan going at night.
Hotel was spotless and comfortable and very welcoming. Breakfasts were huge and yummy with all sorts of combinations. We were sorry that we had to leave. Beds were comfy and extra pillows were easy to get hold of. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
It would-be nice to have our dog with us but you can't have everything
Very clean and tidy Excellent food Attentive service Friendly staff
The friendliness of follow guests, the peacefulness, the views of Hope Cove, the food and the helpfulness of the staff.
The fact that sleep and the comfort of the room was spoilt by the situation of the room being above the kitchen. This made it unbearably hot within the room and the cooling systems provided were inadequate.
Care and interest of the staff. The reasonably priced evening meal and the English breakfast served rather than a help yourself buffet
Blankets rather than a duvet but that was part of the old fashioned charm
The staff were very efficient, the hotel was very clean. We stayed in two rooms and the first with a sea view was comfortable
The second room was at the side and was not worth the money. It also had an emergency door to the outside which apparently necessitated a green light to be on all night making it impossible to sleep
All of it! The Lantern Lodge is a lovely hotel. The staff are very friendly, bedroom clean and spacious, breakfast very good and evening meal very good with excellent choice for both breakfast and evening meal. A traditional hotel within easy access to Hope Cove.
Nothing other than the rain on Monday morning!
Staff, small of beautiful clean linen, dinner, breakfast, atmosphere, great place. Its dated but it works. really works.
Wonderful experience, like going back in time to a more relaxed way of life. Dining in was lovely, Four courses of superb food. Very welcoming, staff very friendly. Beautiful location, bedroom with sea view par none, able to walk coastal path from hotel. Would definitely return.
Friendly atmosphere, attentive staff, clean environment, good food, excellent swimming pool
Would have liked more food for breakfast. Prefer self-serve from buffet at breakfast.
Decor in need of serious update
We spent the weekend here for my Wife's 60 the birthday. It was very good with accommodation & staff my wife suffers with MS all were very caring. We had a very relaxing weekend.
very nice short holiday will try to go in the sping next time
The staff were helpful and friendly. Nice hilltop location but footpath to beach closed when we stayed. Good value for money.
Décor old fashioned and very tired. Children not allowed.
Great location, comfortable, traditional seaside hotel, friendly and very helpful staff, on-site parking, lovely food. Will definitely visit again.
Location was wonderful with coastal walks on doorstep and minutes walk from the village. Pool very nice, really good breakfast options and food delicious. Staff very friendly and helpful.
location comfortable bed very efficient staff
dated decor no view from room, but it was the last room available. basic food not to our taste, but lots of people rave about it
The room was quaint, reasonable size. Good location, nice view. Staff was exceptionally nice. Breakfast was reasonably good quality with wonderful service.
The bed was horrible: springs jutting out and a deep hole in the middle of the bed forcing you to roll to the middle the whole night--not comfortable at all. My back hurt next day. The entire floor creaked horribly, not just one floorboard, but the whole floor. The shower was probably the smallest I've ever been in.
Room size and sea view, great breakfast and service
Bed a bit soft and bouncy
The location was excellent and meant that the view from my room was stunning. I enjoyed sitting on the window seat reading and looking at Hope Cove. The food was extremely good, traditional, well presented and tasty.
A bit like sitting in a lukewarm bath - someone else's. The hotel smells of fried bread throughout. Not entirely unpleasant. My room was over the kitchens. Stuffy and past its sell-by with faded prints on the walls. The decor throughout is dated and a touch tatty, the carpets well trod. The people were pleasant if a little indifferent and a bit hostile when it came to changes in breakfast numbers. The clientele were jolly, older, and seemed to enjoy the 1950's style taciturn breakfast room and playing by the rules (with a brandy and ginger before supper - strictly 7.30 to 8.30pm!). One funny moments: 'Hello, how do I dial another room?' 'It's in the guide book to the hotel.' 'Yes, I've read that carefully and it says 'lift the handset and dial the room number' but that doesn't work.' 'Well it is all explained in there.' 'Ok, but could you just perhaps maybe tell me?' 'Put a 2 before the room number.' 'Thank you.'
I thought it was expensive for the decor and if you pay a high rate for three rooms - and get not one sea view - it's a bit miserable.
Our room had a fabulous sea view, hotel is sat right ontop of the cliff overlooking Hope Cove, easy walk down into Hope Cove. Room was well equipped with bath and shower, great for a soak after long coastal walks! Food was lovely with lots of choice. Staff couldn't do enough to make your stay a happy one
There is nothing you wouldn't like about this hotel.
We spent a most enjoyable weekend - the location was excellent a short walk from the beaches and the South Coast path runs past the entrance. The swimming pool was excellent and the breakfast delicious. It was most pleasing to see that the hotel is eco-friendly: lovely to see real living plants around the swimming pool not fake ones, breakfast was cooked to order so no food being kept warm and becoming dry, marmalade was in a separate dish not those awful plastic capsules and best of all there was fairtrade coffee in the room.
I personally didn't like the vintage dark wood furniture and floral bedspreads but having said that the spacious wardrobe and chest of drawers meant that we had far more storage space for our clothes that is usual when there is modern furniture.
