Hastings has weathered recent years rather better than many...
Hastings has weathered recent years rather better than many towns. The Old Town area which was a little run down on my last visit has now been restored with many restaurants and the narrow streets had a friendly vibe missing from places like The Lanes in Brighton. The town centre is nothing special but only has a few empty shops. St Leonards seems to be its more upmarket twin although the transition between towns is seamless. The coastal area is varied including an under cover "bottle alley" and some good coffee shops (Goat Ledge being my favourite with a hippy vibe). It also felt safe with groups of people of all ages just enjoying being outdoors by the sea with some music. There seem to be plentiful buses to explore further afield and there are two funicular lifts to the top of the cliffs for a more scenic view and to visit the castle. Other towns on the south coast may have a better reputation, but I doubt that you'd get a hotel with sea view at such an affordable price and the locals are universally friendly.

Being a resident of Hastings for most of my life, The town like many others has it's up and downs, The area of St Leonards is peppered with bars and eateries as is the Old town of Hastings.
I can't recommend enough an Italian gem La Bella Vista on the seafront of St Leonards.

Hastings always has a lot to offer but going off season means a lot of the places are not open. But there is still plenty to see and do good variety of coffee shops restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. St Leonard’s, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within driving distance. George st has loads of quirky shops to browse in. In peak season the fair ground and amusement arcades are great for the kids. Highly recommended.
Maggies is best for fish & chips
Two bulls for steak. Or go to Bentleys steakhouse in bexhill for the best steak experience plenty of Italian eateries. And there are 3 great wet fish and seafood outlets at Rockanoor

We loved the vibrancy of independent shops and cafes in the Old Town, the mixture of fishing heritage and culture and seaside. Freshly made pizzas created and served with love at Monellis not to be missed.
Pleasant and service-friendly staff. The owners were pleasant to talk to and were concerned that you enjoyed yourself.
Good breakfast with daily fruit included. You had to choose breakfast from a menu which was then prepared in the kitchen.
The location of the hotel is excellent in Hastings old town. Close to everything.
The pub next door, which has the same owner, served an outstanding sea bass. The pub has a courtyard where you can eat under an old grape plant.
Although the hotel was on a road it was very quiet inside. My room was very cosy, clean and had lovely soaps and a selection of teas etc. The location was perfect as St Leonards is a town with all facilities plus it’s easy walking distance to Hastings and Bexhill. The lady who runs the place, Alison, was wonderful and had a good balance of being helpful and friendly but leaving you alone too. I loved my say and will be back!
Exceptional design of each room - I don’t have enough words to describe my delight. And the rooms are spacious. Lovely detail: there’s a bottle of fresh milk in the fridge to add to your tea. The breakfast is also very good, and the presentation is very elegant. The staff is friendly and helpful. For dinner we’ve been to Porters next door (that belongs to the same family), and enjoyed the food and music very much!
Stayed for work purposes and found Ian and Beverley tremendous hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. My room was superb and very comfortable. If you are looking to stay in Hastings or the surrounding area for work or pleasure give Hastings House a try. If you like your curries the Ghurkha Chef just around the corner from the hotel is superb.
Room was cosy, sunny, warm and clean. It was the one with sea view and it was excellent. Location of the hotel is perfect if you like the sea and you need to make many trips all around or you want to have all facilities (pubs, shops, restaurants) at your fingertips. The owners were kind and helpful. I would recommend Alexanders! :-)
I found my experience at the Eagle House Hotel to be exceptional very close to the beach well maintained and the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant all the basics recovered very good Wi-Fi spacious from an exceptional breakfast in the morning thanks again and I will be staying here ear in the near future when Hastings.
The staff throughout the hotel were lovely. Room was clean, spacious, and beds were very comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. Location wasnt far from town, about 30min walk or a bus stop is located right outside. Also the back garden is lovely and well kept too.
The hotel is fantastic and both the owners are very welcoming and they also provided one of the best breakfast we have for a long while in a hotel.
has a lovely large and quite garden to sit in and relax and will be visiting again for a longer stay than jus t the one night
Needed an overnight stay to spend some time with my son . Cheaper and more convenient than a hotel without worrying about spending money on eating out . The beds were super comfy and the caravan was spotless. Would definitely stay here again . Thank you so much.
The location was amazing, 2 minutes walk to Hastings pier and a short walk to Clambers softplay. The high Street and lovely artisan shops were also right near the hotel. The staff were so friendly and happy to help, which is so rare to find these days.
An excellent location and the views of Hastings were lovely. It really was a home from home. Furnishings throughout the house were gorgeous and the kitchen was well equipped. Adriana's correspondence was excellent. We had a wonderful stay.
We were only here for one night, check in was fine and the staff were friendly, the room was bigger than I expected, but a lovely stay, had everything we needed for a night in Hastings.
This sweet little place is in the perfect location in Hastings-- on the elegant High Street, steps from all of the cafes and antique shops of George Street, in the heart of Old Town.
Very clean, no faults discovered at this remarkable hotel, all facilities provided working & comfortable.
When visiting Hastings consider Astral Lodge a first choice.
This a friendly hotel. Breakfast is excellent. There is a bar with comfortable seating. It is on a good bus route. There are many buses into St Leonards or Hastings.
