By far the biggest thing going for The Royal York Hotel is it's location. Just next to the train station and only a couple of mins walk from the centre of the town. With one exception (a nice chap in the bar) the staff were shocking. Very poor service. The reception staff stood out as by far the most unwelcoming I have ever come upon. |

The breakfast was great with a large selection of both hot and cold buffet. The room was spacious and comfortable and very quiet. We opted for the discount with the York Pass and this was excellent value for money. Really pleased with hotel overall and would definitely recommend it. The carpet in our room could have done with a hoover! It was a shame because other than that very clean hotel. |

Friendly, helpful staff No free wi-fi. Even internet in the rooms was outrageously priced, as was the hotel bar. There is no reason for this! |

The hotel has beautiful gardens and grounds around it. It was very clean and the staff were helpful. The breakfast was very nice. There is a new build on the hotel seperate from the historic building. I think they should tell you previous to arriving if you are in here to avoid dissopointment. |

The view from the window, the closeness to the centre of York and the size of the room. The beds were not particularly comfortable and the room was very warm. |

it was very handy for the station , as my son's and keen train spotter. from my expectations of this hotel it must have been very grand in its past life, shame its lost some of that. but a pleasurable experience and one i will look forward to doing again. |

The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the hotel itself was in an ideal location. The evening menu was not to our liking. |

The locality with respect to the main sites to visit The room was lovely but far too warm and there was no means of cooling it down despite the window being open for the duration of our stay. |

I stayed for two nights, and attended a wedding at the hotel. The arrangements for the wedding, from a guest's point of view, were excellent. The library, for drinks, and Oak Room, for dinner and celebrations provided comfortable and atmospheric accommodation. On the whole, my experience was a positive one. I would however have welcomed the availability of a shower cap in the bathroom, and the removal of some smears [finger marks?] from the the bathroom door. |

We found the location of the hotel very good, next to the railway station. Next time we'll travel by train! The food and cleanliness were excellent and the staff were exemplary. Beautiful gardens and surroundings. We were unfortunately in a room which was unbearably hot but couldn't understand why. There were no radiators on at the time which would explain this. We mentioned to the reception desk and someone came up to investigate, but couldn't advise us what it was caused by. We were offered another room but had only one more day left so didn't take up the offer. |

Convenient location The hotel was completely overheated. Even with my bedroom window open all night it was impossible to get the room cool. The hotel staff claimed the heating was turned off at 8pm and the hotel takes time to cool down but it was still stiflingly hot in the morning. Made the whole stay deeply unpleasant Wouldn't stay there again because of this. |
