Very central - wanted to see National Railway Museum. Meals were delicious and staff very friendly. Miad service was good but they seemed to not be aware of the towel changing only when required. I booked the hotel because it looked old and interesting but we were stuck in the Garden rooms which meant a modern room accessed via the conference area. On two occasions we had to fight through delegates to get to the main hotel. Room was fine but had a strange aroma (probably musty). Did not realise that we could add the parking charges to the bill.

The hotel is in a prime position. Excellent if you are arriving by train as the station is connected to the hotel. Note of advise when you book ask for a room not on top of the platform other wise you will be up bright and early with the commuters The bar was expensive

The location was great, right on train station and walking distance to central York The rooms are very tired and in need of some desperate TLC look really dated and not worth the cost.

it was a excellent location to visit york, right next to the train station. our room was surpossed to have a garden view, which was not very good, also it was a bit expensive for the room we was given, it was a very long work to our room from the main hotel.

Location combined with the cleanliness and attention from the staff was just right. Had a room overlooking the garden which aslo included the Big Wheel and a view of York Minster - a great combination of the old and the new.

The hotel was beautiful on arrival, the manager was very polite. Reception staff couldnt do enough. The buffet breakfast was very tasty and the waitors where especially helpful. We requested a room with a view and we got the pub outside and some police cars. The room was quite small well very small perhaps thats what youget for £120 but thats supposed to be a saving :/ o

Very dissapointed with our room, we were in the garden wing and realised why they called it that, you couldnt see out of our window because of this massive weed that covered the whole of our window, literally , the bar prices were ridiculous, breakfast mediocre, it was clean, but that was about it, the only reason we booked was because we travelled by train and it was handy, in my eyes they shouldnt have built on as the old building has been spoilt by this so called " garden wing", wont be staying there again

Excellent location within walking distance of most historic buildings. The station on the doorstep is very convenient for travel to and from London. It could be made more homely.

This hotel is very tired and outdated, offering budget standards(at best!) at 4 star prices. There are literally hundreds of hotels in York offering better standards and value for money!

It was extremely close to the train station and only a couple of minutes from the centre of York. The breakfast selection was good. The York Wheel was right outside the window which gave me a few concerns about privacy.

Our initially assigned room was tiny, had scoffolding outside the filthy window overlooking the railway station - very noisy, especially unsuitable for light sleepers like myself. On being moved to a supposedly quieter room, we discovered in the evening that the heating did not work and was pumping out freezing air-conditioned air only - after numerous phone calls to reception we were eventually given 2 blankets at 11.30pm. Having managed to fall asleep despite the cold, we were awaked at 1.30 am by extremely loud laughter and shouting from the room next door - a post-wedding party apparently going on. Again it took several calls to reception, and our threatening to check out immediately, to eventually get a member of staff to come to the room to attempt to sort this out - however only threats of police being called quietened the noise, but by then it was 2.30am and, being a poor sleeper, I therefore could not get back to sleep for some time. By breakfast time we were completely exhausted and fed up with our stay and resolved to leave immediatley after eating. The breakfast however also proved a disappointment - although the food was passable, the only coffee on offer was Nescafe instant, a small enough complaint, but when combined with the rest of our stay, the final straw. On checking out we raised our complaints and I was surprised that there didn't appear to be any record of our phone calls to reception re the heating / noise; staff listened but then simply smiled, nodded then offered to waive the £6 parking fees only - rather an insult, considering what we had experienced - the parking was the only satisfactory part of our stay. For a so-called 4 star 'luxury' hotel charging £149 a night, we were hugely disppointed and annoyed at both the standard of facilities and the attitude of the staff. We certainly will not be returning or recommending this hotel to anyone.

Location was fabulous. Food in the hotel restaurant was superb and very reseasonable in price. Swimming pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi were nice Reception staff were unhelpful and rude to customers quering their bills on checkout. Price for a 250 ml glass of chardonnay in excess of £10. felt hotel needed a lick of paint in rooms and also more modern flat screen televisions were expected.

Think it needs a major re-vamp as a four star hotel. Could not fault location one bit but do not think it represents value for money. Also got woken up with fire alarm, with everyone standing outside, some in pyjamas, kids woken up and no apology or explanation.

The royal york was situated in a ideal spot for short walk into main city and not too far in too hear too much night noise, the hotel was very posh and reasonably priced, breakfast was perfect big variety to choose from, caters for everybody, would defanitly stay again. There is not much to complain about, my stay was a very pleasant one, if anything bad to comment on it would be the price of the beer spirits wine champagne and foods you have not booked in with your stay,

We would not recommend this hotel, the room was set below ground and needed refurbishing the smell of damp through poor maintenance and building work been carried out during our stay. We were woken at 7. 50am to building work and at one point the windows looked to be coming on to sound of building bricks been thrown into skips. The serves was so poor there was no heating in the room with mild growth all in the bathroom it made us sick. When asking fir extra blanket it took a few hours and the duty managers refused no rerun of money. We left and never to return to what is a 1 star hotel and should revive it's crowns based on selling these kind of rooms and service. Yours sincerely Tony and jodie Wilkes The rooms were disgusting and needs of major refurbishment, being charged for car paring when already paying to stay at the hotel is very poor service, the management in helpfully and not interested in customer service

The bed was very comfortable and the bath was nice and deep. A big thanks to Chris the consierge for being the only member of staff for being so helpful, shame the rest of the staff were not the same. The staff were not as welcoming as they could have been, you have to pay for car parking whilst in the hotel car park, you have to pay to connect to wifi, the room was extremely stuffy.
