Location, standard of accommodation, friendly staff. The fact that the Freeview channels on the tv didn't work properly and on our first morning there was no hot water.

Very pleasant building and surroundings. Reception staff quite pleasant though not over the top. Room was warm and quite big with a nice view. Nice fitness facilities to use. Food very good and well presented. Food surcharge. I was unaware that the £30 menu included extra charges for certain items such as Steak and the cheeseboard. The staff did not point this out. The in house internet connection was abysmal. After I'd phoned to ask about access and been told all rooms had it, I found it was useless and I couldn't get a link whatsoever. Although the room was good, the bathroom was poor, especially the siting of the toilet wedged between a wall and the sink... Very difficult for a mature person to use. There was a bicycle parked in the corridor from reception to the downstairs rooms...(reminiscent of the 50's but not nowadays). Fitness centre lacks a spa bath.....

It was pleasantly set in nice grounds local to where we needed to be. As we booked though booking.com it was cheap too! Breakfast wasn't included and was expensive. Bed was hard and uncomfortable and we had to reset our key card 3 times in 2 days.

The staff were particularly helpful. They seem to have all the answers from hairdressers' telephine numbers to prices of taxi rides to another town. They even gave us bread for our child to feed the ducks on the pond! Really nice atmoshpere, we went there for a wedding and the stay was very pleasant throughout. The breakfast was great, too, kept you going throughout the day.

Luxury room I booked was huge and sumptuous, felt like royalty! Whilst the room was fantastic, should have included breakfast in the price, hence the comments on value for money. It turned a perfect stay into a very very nice stay.

Location and Staff were first class. There was a wedding which was lovely, but the noise, and music on until midnight was not nice, and as a result I am not sure if I would stay again.

The staff are naturally very attentive without even trying to be. some one in charge knows who to hire! Don't be fooled by other reviews that diss the staff. I was blown away. Rafael, Chris, and Stefanie deserve special mention. But all were amazing. So much history is here. Basic rooms seemed a bit smaller than photo, but still great. Shower grouting in one area a bit dirty. You can hear quite a bit of what your neighbours are doing, so it has a bit of a camping feel to it.

I thought the room was expensive for what is was, the tea and coffee making facilities were very limited not enough milk etc for 2 people, the room was very cold and took ages to heat up and there wasnt any dressing gowns, when we asked for one it took ages to come and was absolutely huge with no belt. It would be fine if the price was less but for what we paid for the room we expected a little more. The paintwork was tatty in communal areas it could do with a little spruce up.

The rooms were clean, well equipped and comfortable and the food was very good. The room was a little too cold when we checked in but this was perhaps because of extreme weather. We were warm enough during the night

Stayed over for works function. Room lovely, clean and spacious. Bar staff great. Found reception staff in the morning unprofessional. We were waiting to pay while they had a lengthy conversation regarding an over booking. We were not acknowledged at all. Also, arrived at half past eight the evening of the ball due to work commitments. Food had already been thrown away, apparently for health and safety. We had to arrange a pizza delivery for a large group of friends which was another expense on an all ready expensive evening.

Easy to find, plenty of parking, attractive building. Receptionist was chatty & friendly, apologised for the room & quality of food. Dining experience was dreadful and not worth the ridiculous price. Limited and inaccurate set menu, no a la carte option with 7.50 suppliments on an already overpriced menu which I would class as average pub-grade food. Bathroom was dirty & mouldy, tea/coffee spoon was left used from previous occupant, pushed together single beds moved apart throughout the night - metal bar to hold them was broken, sharp & cut my heel when I sat on the end of the bed. No hot water from the sink.

When we arrived and went to our room to our surprise it wasnt ready, bed was messed up and towels were all over the floor in the bathroom. Anither room we stayed in had no light in the hall way, plus the noise from the wedding from downstairs just not acceptable! And you should think of changing the breakfast prices, the most expensive bowl of weetabix in my life.

Location and setting were good. Building was very nice and modern. Room was a good size I booked for 2 and we only had one of everything in the room. The sash window would not fasten properly and we had to stick a magazine to make sure it did not rattle all night. This was all relayed to the staff the following morning and they were very apologetic.

The old building was lovely to look at, The dining experience both in the evening and for breakfast was very good, the food was great as too was the service. The location was the main reason for booking as there were a couple of places of interest we wanted to visit over our weekend. The only thing we did not like was the fact that there was a christmas function going on and we were put into the room right next to the function room and entrance doors where a smoking ashtray was placed, a complaint was made in the morning and the manager was more than satisfactory in dealing with our complaint
