The room was clean and modern. Wasn't told when I checked in that the restaurant was full and I couldn't get a table.

The food was delicious! The ground floor corridor was very noisy while an entire wedding party of guests filed past from one party area to another, the door to my room did absolutely nothing to mask the noise, but at least it didn't last long. They need some sort of "please respect other guests by keeping quiet in corridors" signs.

What we saw of the building and the grounds . We booked ten days before our stay so we could have a family get together at my sister's house. When we arrived at the Letchworth Hall Hotel around 8pm they said there was no record of our booking they said often Booking .com dont send it through to them , and there was no rooms left ! We picked our bottom jaw back off the floor and insisted on why ? Anyway the receptionist after going off to find management came back and said "we have a dirty room I can get ready for u and will take about an hour ". Ok relief ,so we went to the bar , waited to be served while she attended paperwork ignoring us even though we were only ones there , then the receptionist whispered something to her, when we eventually got served our drinks she said they were on the house ! Another man came up to us and said they had same prob so I said oh u booked also with booking.com ? No they had booked direct with the hotel ? . When we asked at the bar if we needed to book a table for 2 she told us they were busy and can't have a table ! Then she went to check and said we could but in half hour , fine not a prob . Food looked good but was cold stale veg under the meat , when we were ready to go we asked and waited for the bill eventually they did not give it and on checkout in the morning they had put a mystery extra ten pounds on the food bill which we just paid and left vowed never to return . Out room when we did get to it was ok up on 3rd floor , the sheet over the mattress was too small it was only tucked in the foot end and everywhere else it did not even cover , when we went to make a cup of tea in the morning there was no milk on the tray , we only had one of each bath and hand towels so when I got second use of the towel after my shower it was cold and damp so had to use the little hand towel ! Yuck ! And to top all this the clocks went forward so had to rush to check out on time ! Unfortunately we did not have time to try out the pool .

Friendly reception staff. We needed to check-in early as we were attending a wedding. Even though the hotel was very busy with bookings, the receptionist arranged for a room to be available within 10 minutes at no extra charge. Great breakfast in comfortable dining room. None

Staff couldn't do enough, from the receptionist to the night porter, and bar staff, everyone was fantastic! Paid a reasonable rate. The bar was very well stocked, and had a lovely breakfast in the morning in the resturant. We were woken up by a fire alarm at 07:00 which wasn't pleasent but not the hotel's fault some muppet was smoking in his room.

The central heating system and the fire doors in the corridor were noisy most of the time. There was also a 'turbine/motor' tyoe noise that kept increasing and decreasing all the time. It was expensive for the level of comfort and size of the room.

The rooms were nicely decorated and there was plenty of hot water. Check in staff were very helpful. Dinning room staff were not very efficient. Our table (and others around) was full of used plates and no one came to clear them until the table was vacated. Bar priced were way too expensive (£4.50) for a bottle of Bud. Also £16.95 for a breakfast was a bit extreme, especially if you only wanted a bowl of cereal.

the satff in the bar/restaurant were really helpful We were charged £33 for 2 x breakfasts which we were not informed were an addiitonal charge, and there wasnt any informaiton around detailing the extortionate cost of breakfast. We only had tea and toast and to be charged £33 for this is disgraceful and would stop me using Mercure again.

The room was very comfortable. The grounds are attractive. The service at breakfast is poor. It was better a few years ago when table orders for tea/coffee, meals and toast were taken shortly after arrival in the breakfast room. The facilities for wheelchair access into and within the hotel is poor to non-existent.

nice grounds, food was nice and good value, we went for the spa facilities but the hotel was nice, rooms are good, lack a fridge but knew this when booking. staff friendly and helpful. service was a bit slow but there was a wedding on so im sure they were busy. the spa allows kids (knew before i booked) however it should be more relaxing in my opinion.

Our room was large and pleasant. The breakfast buffet was good. Didn't quite match up to the expectations created by the web-site (a 17th century manor house? Somewhere buried beneath the modern additions, yes...) Also- the hotel had no record of our booking when we arrived, after a particularly long and stressful journey through difficult traffic on a cold, wet night... apparently because there was a communication problem with the booking agency...? The hotel kindly allowed me a free breakfast to compensate, which helped... particularly since the breakfeast, at £16 per head, otherwise would have been a bit steep! Seemed less thank helpful at dinner having a set price, rather than being able to choose what we might like... Since we were only there for one night, in winter, for a family funeral nearby, perhaps we were feeling less postive than we might have been at some other time!

Efficient friendly staff and lovely lounge area. The red bed decorations were stained n looked very dubious and unhygienic altho the bedding was spotless. Very noisy as over gym carpark, woken before 6am by car engines and doors opening and closing.
