Longtail Hill, Lindeth Drive, Bowness-on-Windermere, LA23 3JF, United Kingdom – Show map
Lindeth Howe was built as a summer holiday home for a wealthy mill owner in 1879.From 1902 to 1913 Beatrix Potter wrote her famous children’s stories and for two of these stories, Timmy Tiptoes and Pigling Bland, she illustrated them whilst staying at here. We have copies of some correspondence from this period and have permission to use a copy of her handwriting when she inscribed Lindeth Howe. We also have some original photographic plates of pictures and prints of the house taken by her father Rupert.

Location, facilities and breakfast!
lovely efficient staff and fantastic location
The bed - mattress and quilts were very poor and uncomfortable
Nice quite location close to Bowness
A beautiful location and friendly staff. We'll definitely be going again soon!
On check out it was explained that we had, had to be upgraded to accommodate a 2nd campbed in the room. This was never mentioned before despite the receptionist insistting that she had called to confirm this following the booking, this just wasn't true and another £60 had been added to the bill. It's not the money that bothers me it's the shear fact of the lie, and this will result in somewhere else being booked when we return to the lakes.
Hotel was nice and staff friendly.
The staff was very helpful and hotels ambience was excellent
the evening meal was too expensive for what it was, otherwise enjoyed the stay
Hotel and breakfast
Excellent staff Good room
unfortunately the offers for the evening meal did not apply to our type of booking, otherwise we would have eaten in the restaurant each evening
As above but also it was exactly the break we were looking for.
Food very expensive and fancy
Location and room
Nice location and gardens
Able to relax . Enjoyed breakfast in the room Daughter and grandsons enjoyed the small gym, and the pool for swim.
Building work, booking.com didn't advise us and it started 7.45! Not great when we went for a rest after a busy and stressful time
Hotel is beautiful with a real charm. The staff are very friendly and accommodating
The room was lovely & clean. Staff was friendly
My husband ordered champagne and chocolates bu they weren't in the room when we arrived ,the hotel said they didn't recall the phone call and there was no real apology.
We thought the hotel was clean and spacious.
Fantastic location - deluxe room worth the view.
Dated decor in bedrooms . Bit dark. But still comfortable very spacious and clean.
The setting of the hotel was gorgeous, the staff were friendly and the food nice. Loved thhe garden and bedroom views. I would definitely come here again.
Having to leave
Great staff and truely special thank you.
It was walking distance to town which was very handy. We loved the gardens and the actual house was very romantic. Our room was huge with a really nice bathroom and bath. The place has a nice looking heated pool also. There were lovely log fires on in all the lounges which we enjoyed our drinks by at night. The surrounding area is stunning with heaps to do. It was one of the better places we have stayed and we travel a lot.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the views from the room were amazing. Highly recommended. Improvements to the hotel are being carried out but this did not impact on our stay
the only downside was as its an old building sounds did carry between rooms of which i had 2 children with me and they did create noise which ended in someone asking us to be quieter which put my children a little on edge so i would suggest sound proofing is needed in some parts
This was a beautiful hotel and the food was great, the staff were extremely helpful and polite
Probably more suited to older couples
Lovely old features with a very good quality feel
The weather !
From start to finish, it was a lovely experience. Reception were very welcoming, the gala dinner was superb, the staff were extremely attentive and friendly, great piper, and the band were of a high standard, playing almost all night for dancing. Well done Lindeth Howe!
There was nothing major or minir to dislike about my stay here. Extremely minute things such as there being no mirror near the hair dryer which was permanently attached to the inside of the draw of the dressing table and the dental kit being £4; which contained the smallest tube of toothpaste I've ever seen followed by the worlds most basic toothbrushes that probably couldn't brush more than one tooth before being deemed utterly useless, arguably this is acceptable due to the fact these items arrived by room service and we didn't have to lift a finger... Well that is a lie actually, I had to use the telephone to call room service. Ultimately, zero complaints, more like suggestions: Upgrade your dental kits Place a mirror on the dressing table in room 203
The entire hotel was brimming with character. We came at the end of the festive season and all of the decorations were out, it felt like a home, not a hotel. We were made to feel warm and welcomed. Very laid back atmosphere! Even without utilising the swimming pool and sauna facilities, the view alone was enough to leave me extremely satisfied. The bed was huge, clean and comfortable, most foreign beds aren't. Checking in and out was exceptionally fast, as was room service. Breakfast was delicious and prepared very professionally. The staff made sure you had everything and it all came promptly. I'd highly recommend staying here, I couldn't praise it enough. My partner and I would quite happily return. 9.9/10 (See what I didn't like for the reasons behind 0.1 from 10)
Staff were lovely, had a very enjoyable stay, will recommend an certainly will book again Breakfast was very good to
