Have stayed many times and have found the atmosphere to be friendly and relaxing. One is always greeted by a member of the Staff on arrival, no matter what the time of arrival. The food is of a consistently high standard and always freshly cooked. I think that a great deal of the success and popularity of The Hallingbury Mill is due to the 'hands on' approach by the owner and his close working with the staff as a team. Also the fact that all customers are treated with the same courtesy and friendliness whether they be Businessmen, Tradesmen, Holiday Makers or Back Packers. Bit surprised to find a cooked Breakfast being charged as an extra, don't recall this being a separate charge in all the previous times I have stayed. Is this a new 'on line' Tariff, meaning you book 'B' but if you want 'B&B' it's extra? Don't know of another Hotel that does that.

The staff members that I met on arrival and in the bar/dining area were wonderful. In no time, I felt as if I were talking to old friends and not a stranger in their midst. I took an evening meal which was of good quality, sensible portions, and a fair price. The bar was well stocked and a real ale from a small brewer was served. Breakfast was to a good standard with a variety of choices. My single room was small but clean and adequate with the facilities that I would want. Due to the proximity to Stansted airport there was a certain amount of aircraft noise and there also a railway not that far away. I would add that in my room I never heard a train and aircraft noise was minimal. The hotel is situated at the end of a quiet lane and very peaceful.

The staff are so friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble. Rooms are clean and comfortable, food is excellent. Although we only live just over half-hour drive away, it feels as if we could just be anywhere once we turn into the hotel grounds - the river, boats, fields all come together to make it the most relaxing place to stay. We will be back!

I enjoyed its individuality (I.e not being art of a chain) its quiet location,, and its blend of facilities. It is actually a hidden gem, and superb for London Stansted The owner is obviously enthusiastic and very proud of his hotel.

The owner was really friendly and approachable. Food in the restaurant was good and served promptly. Room was clean and excellent value for money. All in all a very pleasant experience. The driveway down the private road was very narrow and quite scary to drive down. Maybe warn people of this on the booking.

Close to Stansted airport and easy to find. Although we arrived late, the staff were very understanding and helpful. The bar/restaurant looked great, it's a huge shame we didn't have the chance to try it out, but there's always next time! The room was large, warm and comfortable. Excellent value for money.

The surroundings were beautiful and tranquil, the welcome was good, room exceptionally clean and comfortable and all for less than the Travelodge. Add to that a decent, home cooked meal and breakfast, a tv that works and pleasant hospitality and you have the perfect night away from home.

Delightful quiet location. Warm room (very important arriving late on cold December evening) and everything (lights, shower etc) worked perfectly. Friendly welcome and good-value dinner provided despite the fact that the restaurant was shortly due to close. I honestly can't fault this hotel - it fulfilled our needs perfectly and represented extremely good value for money. We shall certainly stay again.

Staff very polite, felt that price paid was excessive for the quality of rooms received Although the rooms were clean ,we were not happy with the toilet/washing facilties in the rooms which could be described as a modular unit that was not easy to use , also they did not smell particularly pleasant . Bed was uncomfortable

It was exceptionally good value. Not pretentious. The staff were warm and friendly. Although my booked room was found not to have been made up on my arrival at 7.00pm I was upgraded to a better room for the same price. The full English breakfast at £6.50 was stunning value. It was, in the dark, a bit difficult to find being down a one track lane. Found thanks to sat nav.

A brilliant setting situated beside the river next to marina, very leafy and good walks but at the same time right on doorstep to Sawbridgeworth with decent shops and pubs. Loved it! Hope to visit again!
