We were upgraded to 4 poster room as the hotel was quiet. Lovely owner. Good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!! Bar was good but comfy seating would have added a more relaxing feel. Probably due to quiet period just after new year, bar menu not available so cost of evening/eating was more than had been anticipated.

We only had breakfast, so cannot judge food generally, but we had a lovely, comfortable room and enjoyed our stay overall. We would definitely return.

It was extremely convenient for touring many of the attractions of the area. In our case the castles of Mar. The room we had was very comfortable but we felt the four poster was just a little dominant for the size of the room also it was quite difficult for anyone who is a little on the well upholstered side to get round between the chair, the trouser press and the fourth bedpost!!!!! Other than that we have no complaints at all. In fact it makes for an extremely pleasant stay.

The ambiance generally- very friendly and laid back (in a good way) with very good quality food and good accomodation. One little thing- there were no tissues in the room-it's amazing how you miss something like that when it's not there!!

This is right on the road that is convenient to Aboyne, Ballater, and back towards Aberdeen. Real close to the Vat and short woodland walks. The breakfast was very nice and delicious. The room had some quaint antique furniture and there were was a flower box outside my bedroom window. There is also ample parking. I had a large flat screen tv that worked well. My bed was uncomfortably hard. The interior of the hotel smells old and musty. Carpeting is old. Small rooms.

I liked the view and the hotel is very nice The room was very small. We were a couple with a girl. They didn't charge us for the extra bed, but the bed was actually a matress on the floor. I wanted to make a shower at 6 am and there were no hot water. At 8 am there were hot water.

Attractive front room and tavern area. Lovely dinning facility. Buffet breakfast option was nice. Our room was nothing special compared with others we stayed in across Scotland. I didn't like the atmosphere of the hotel portrayed by staff members. It was not a welcome hello after exploring the countryside and art treasures of Scotland all day long. Our presence felt like an interruption to the staff's routine, rather than a welcome opportunity to provide service. We spent three weeks touring Scotland and truly this was our only unfriendly experience. It was a beautiful front sitting area and dinning room, but not comfortable for a family traveling with a 17 year old to stay at. Perhaps only couples should be booked in?

Food was exellent. Good local ingredients, well cooked. Our standard double was good sized with a large bathroom and comfortable bath. We didn't have a view but we didn't ask for one. The hotel lies in an area of forest so panoramic views are not really a feature in any case. The outside space/ beer garden is lovely on a sunny day. I would like to try the lodges - they look nice from the outside.

Hotel staff were warm and welcoming and the atmosphere was relaxed. We were attending a funtion nearby and only stayed the one night; but due to the lateness of our celebrations, failed to make breakfast the following morning. Unforutnately, I did not notice the offer to serve continental breakfast in your room until it was too late, but that would have been a nice touch. However, the dinner menu looked exquisite and I would definately like to try it out sometime soon. I would love to stay here again and would strongly recommend it to others!

Nice Lodge with a great deck out back and a BBQ. Well equiped kitchen and comfortable lounge. Could have had something on site for the kids - a swing set or a climbing frame would have been great.

“Alan and I ( and Finn the Doberman) had a wonderful stay at your hotel. The friendly staff, thank you Lisa, and the personalized welcome from Tony and Peter were exceptional in today's 'next please' society. We just loved our time at Auld Kirk; and Tony, the food was first class gourmet in every aspect. We will certainly recommend this hotel to our friends and hope to be back some day. Thank you, Marilyn McAnally” Marilyn, Aberdeenshire |
