Nice position although not exactly lake side. Staff unhelpful. Over priced by approx. 30%. Needs better management.

The breakfasts were amazing, the staff very friendly. The hotel was decorated for Christmas and looked very pretty. The view from the hotel is amazing. The walls are way too thin. On our first night we had to complain 3 times to the Duty Manager regarding someones television being extremely loud and disturbing. Also we booked a family room and although we booked it knowingly; paying for a cot bed and an extra bed for my other son, is a bit odd, considering it is a "family" room? Surely this should be inc, as is family room?

The location is fantastic, beautiful views, across the road from Derwent water and the landing stage for the ferry. Also a short ride from Keswick and shops/pubs/ resteraunts.Food and service were both excellent. Spa facilitities were great and the hot tub fun.Lovely short walk to the Lodore waterfalls behind the hotel.

The attitude of the staff was very good and they seemed happy to provide a very good service. The location of the hotel was excellent for our needs with it's immediate area excellent for short and long walks and for providing a feeling of staying within the countryside. It was also very nice to have a view of the lake from our window. It would have been nice/handy to have a fridge within our room. Also, given the high quality of the bathroom it was disappointing that the shower was not a power shower. However, these are small niggles with what we felt was a very good hotel.

We have been frequent visitors to The Lakes for many year; and in common with all visitors to the area, it has become our favourite. We have stayed both in hotels and self catering. Without doubt The Lodore was, in all respects, the best experience that we have ever had in The Lakes. We certainly will return again - and as soon as possible!

The falls themselves are pretty, the hotel is pleasant if slight old fashioned in decor, and it's very close to go walking and enjoy the lakes. Tennis and swimming, both in and outdoor were very good. We stayed in the Borrowdale suite which was nice and had (the hotel's only) balcony looking out over Derwentwater. The decor was somewhat dated, though perhaps not intended to appeal to young couples.

It was a perfect total hotel experience - spotless cleanliness in a relaxed, friendly and professional environment with a bed guaranteed to offer a great night's sleep. It wasn't a 'show off hotel' but provided a stay of quality I've not experienced elsewhere. The location was perfect for a relaxed weekend and we will be returning to the area to take advantage of the many things we 'tasted' during our first visit. We loved the swimming/spa and sauna facilities. It was a special weekend for us and we were hoping to find a hotel we would enjoy returning to. We did! On the Saturday evening after our return to the hotel, there was only one parking space left in the car park and we were concerned about where we could have parked.

The general quality of the hotel and of our room were very high. The lounge areas with real fires were so comfortable we had to tear ourselves away from them. The breakfasts were wonderful and plentiful ! By comparison with the Salutation at Ambleside, the Lodore Falls has a worse leisure club: pool much smaller, sauna just a wooden shed in the corner of the pool room, outdoor jacuzzi much smaller and must be booked in advance. Also Saluaution better located for ex-hotel eating and drinking.

Fabulous food in the restaurant. Staff attentive and polite without being obsequious. Wonderful setting (great view of lake from our room). Tranquil atmosphere. The only criticism was the requirement to sign for each individual drink during our meals - this seemed an unnecessary interruption - surely it would be better to sign for them all at the end of each evening? Also, the young woman on reception at the spa seemed a little unprofessional and unfocused on her job.

Staff were very friendly, food was impeccable. The location of the hotel is the biggest selling point, looking over Derwentwater with a launch jetty only 2 minutes walk away. Some of the leisure facilities proved a little dissapointing for a hotel that promotes itself as a spa break. The pool is only small, the sauna is crowded when you get 6 people in it and you couldnt swing a cat in the changerooms. There is a small Jacuzzi outside next to the swimming pool but we were stopped from using it as it was bookings only.

See below, though of course the hotel has a magnificent location. Any positive feelings were negated by the fact that our room was cold and it proved impossible to warm it up (perhaps because the building is old with no cavity walls, and the room we occupied having two external walls). Perhaps other guests were affected since all the spare blankets were in use, and we had to make do with an extra duvet on each bed. (The original duvets provided for the beds were in fact very much summer weight duvets)

The hotel is in a great location. Massive effort made to make it look and feel fabulous for Christmas. We were disturbed, both by knocks on the door and phone calls, despite putting out the do not disturb sign. We never did find out who had called and knocked on the door!!!. So apart from the disturbances, it was ideal as we needed a couple of days away from our busy and hectic lives. The staff and service was great and the room was lovely. The bed was so comfortable, we both slept really well. We would come again, hopefully without the disturbances.

Comfy bed and bedroom was nice and warm. Minute bathroom with no room for toiletries. Shower splashed all over the floor. Deluxe room with lake view meant that we were on the front of the main road with the consequent traffic noise. It was quiet over night but I was awakened early one morning by the rubbish lorry or delivery lorry. Squeaky floor boards in the corridors and starirs, and loudly banging doors and thin walls did not help. The fruit offering at breakfast was not great, mainly tinned or preserved fruit, why not fresh?
