Location next to Barbican. Size of room. Upgrade to junior suite. Breakfast menu. Mini bar contents. Closeness to tube station. Friendliness of staff. Provision of umbrellas! Fresh fruit in room. Hermes toiletries.
Couldn't work the room temperature controls and no instructions - had to open windows which affected noise & exhaust fumes. Height of bed! No cafetiere or ground coffee provided only instant. Height of hooks in bathroom - couldn't reach. Needed more hooks in bathroom.
Staff were so helpful and we were upgraded to a club room with complimentary champagne for our anniversary which was a lovely gesture!
Fantastic room, lovely friendly helpful staff.
Brilliant value for money, very friendly, lovely decor, great location, excellent service. Our only complaint was the size of the room. Normal size double bed did not provide the luxury we had hoped and the room was cramped without any space for personal items on work surfaces. We are not big people - we are both relatively small, so I would not recommend for anyone talk or large! Obviously London space comes at a premium so maybe you get what you pay for, and £140 a night for a 5* did seem very cheap! They certainly do their best in all other areas to make up for the small rooms!
Just the room size!
General standard of hotel. Staff eccellent. We were recognised on arrival. The hotel is in a quiet (at weekends) area just beside the Barbican. It is 5 mins from 2 tube stations. We liked being a bit off the main track and enjoyed getting back to this quiet place after days activity. Also access to club room was great - felt like our sitting room at home.
Feeling of stylish luxury at check in, with very attentive staff. Prompt assistance when we had a problem with the heating. Clean, spacious room with lovely comfortable bed, pillows and linen. Plenty of amenities in the room with good quality tea/coffee, toiletries and extras. We felt the value for money was excellent for a weekend stay, but this was slightly tempered by its rather 'business' area location and dark, formal ambience in the room.
The room was rather 'style over substance' for me! Very tricky controls for showers; bizarrely-sited, small sink; lots of light switches to decipher; black ash furniture everywhere which didn't help, making the room feel darker when trying to read instructions/make tea and coffee. The room was very chilly with draughty windows, but I think that was the design of the historic building and we were there on an extra-cold January night! Unfortunately, though not the fault of the hotel, the venue across the courtyard was hosting a wedding on the Saturday and the music was loud and thumping until 1am. I guess this is just an occupational hazard of hotels on a Saturday evening! The Duty Manager was very apologetic when we mentioned it the next morning and followed up with a personal e-mail - a nice touch.
The comfort in the rooms. The dinning room with free tea and coffee with nibbles a very good touch.
Bedroom was a bit tight for two people.
Nice place. Great facilities. Lovely bathroom. My girlfriend and I left feeling very satisfied. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Bed was a little too soft for my liking but slept well nonetheless.
The room was great with good facilities and we both agreed that the bed was as comfortable as we had slept in! The staff were very attentive and polite and nothing was too much trouble. The Duty Manager and Reception staff handled out small complaint brilliantly!
We were disappointed with the breakfast in the adjoined Jugged Hare for a number of reasons however sometimes it takes something like this to really see how good the staff are.... And they certainly proved that they were outstanding!
Everything about it was mind blowing
How far out it was from sights
Just brilliant,... the room, the staff, the location. Our room was on the 4th floor next to the lift that went directly into the hotel Bar/Restaurant which was also excellent. What more could anyone ask for?!
The staff were exceptional and the hotel was very smart.
The room was a lot smaller than I'd expected, particularly as we paid for a luxury room. Small bed, not a lot of floor space and a massive structual pillar at the side of the bed, which made us feel a bit penned in.
the service was exceptional and everyone was very happy to help with anything and everything.
staff came in for evening turn down service, knocked and then entered without waiting for a response, as i was half naked getting ready for a shower this was a tad awkward.
Convenience of the location.
Rambling hotel - confusing to find your way around - a walk up the street for breakfast. Desk chair in my room was broken and not safe.
Handsome and helpful receptionist. Comfort bed. Excellent service.
Nice room and bed, price reasonable
I already had a double room booked, then booked a second room for my brother who decided to stay in London. Staff and the property were excellent.
Just the initial confusion over the hotel name. A London City Apartment sign would have helped greatly.
The staff were all excellent and made us feel special. A unique hotel that we would definateltly visit again.
The staff on arrival were amazing and very helpful and they all made our stay very comfortable.
The hotel is super easy to get to on the tube to Barbican - the hotel itself is really well appointed, the room was really comfortable and surprisingly quiet given I was on the street-side. My room had a massive bath, a really comfortable bed, and my favourite part: USB ports on the bedside table where I could charge my devices without needing a UK Plug Adapter - I wish all hotels did this.
Tiny thing - the name on Booking.com - 'London City Suites' is not actually displayed anywhere outside the hotel, which refers to itself as 'The Montcalm at the Barbican', which is actually the name of the property over the road, so I guess whilst they like to distinguish them online, they're treated as a single property in reality. I was confused for a second until the doorman came out and assured me I was in the right place.
Rooms , staff , bar , restaurant , location
no parking and no parking concession with the adjacent parking lots
The staff were extremely polite and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble.
Everything was great. No dislikes
very clean, good bed, but this was in an executive room that i was upgraded to, the standard rooms i have stayed in previously are over priced with bad lighting
The bathroom was really nice, had a nice bath tub too. The hotel was finished to a very high standard througout. There was lots of free fruit available for guests
I struggle to find a problem with this hotel.
