The hotel is in a charming location which was good value for the price we paid however it is need of refurbishment and I would not be happy if I had paid the full tariff for the room. I was very unhappy that they earmarked £300 against our room (£105) which was not returned to me on departure and was told 3 days later that this would not be released for another week.I Would not stay at this place again for that reason.

The location is excellent, providing exc. Walking, but also places to visit and enjoy when the weather is not good. Enjoed Carding Mill Valley walks, Shrewesbury, and drive to Bishops Castle. We had a nice dinner, but there were delays which I believe were down to teething troubles. These were handled well by the manager in charge. I would have liked the option of an inclusive menu.

The location was superb amongst the Stretton Hills. Peace and quiet very evident. Rooms very quiet with very comfortable beds and well appointed with facilities, ie. Tea making facilities, wardrobe and storage space. Ideal base for exploring the wonderful county of Shropshire. Being a base for walking groups from all around the country it is worth bearing in mind that service at breakfast and dinner is a little hectic to say the least when a large party is booked into the Hotel..

The location was brilliant and peaceful, relaxing place Although the hotel is in a brilliant location I felt the management let down the the place. They were not particularly friendly. It had just changed hands...and staff commented on the fact that they were not sure about taking a dog ( small yorkshire terrier). I expalined I had already checked website and phoned before making booking to check. After speaking to someone in back room said we could let dog in but it would cost £10 a night!! I said I was not prepared to stay and pay that amount.. I would pay £10 as a gesture of goodwill...In the end they waived charge...but due to this 'money grabbing' attitude would never stay there again. Breakfst first morning was buffet style...overcooked and barely warm. Second morning breakfast to order..but theydid not bring what we had asked for!! Evening meal was disappointing..meat was beautifully cooked...but roast potatoes were as hard as garden stones...we could not even cut into them with a knife!! Vegetables portions were extremely small...

Location was impressive with lovely grounds and fantastic views from the room and hotel bar/restaurant. I had asked for a quiet room and we were placed on the third floor and have never had such a quiet night in a hotel. Total peace. The hotel was an interesting building and had obviously been really something when it was built, unfortunately the decor in the rooms was bland in comparison with the building. We didn't eat in the restaurant because the vegetarian options were very limited and not pregnancy friendly. So we had to go into the town in the evenings. But as a seasoned veggie this wasn't all that unexpected, so wasn't a big problem. I had wanted to stay at the Longmynd for the views! Although the room was very clean and had everything that you needed I was surprised at how cheap the furniture and decor was in the room and how aged the paintwork on woodwork and balconies was. But I suppose that is why this is a three star hotel and not more.

Old-fashioned luxury in a beautiful but accessible setting. Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Dog friendly. Lovely evening meal. Good choices within the breakfast menu. Insufficient waiting staff at breakfast on the 2nd morning.

Convenient location to the long mynd valleys. We could go from the hotel and access the trails very easily. Hotel was within easy reach of the town centre and main shops. Mattress in Room 8 was a bit lumpy and possibly has reached the end of its life.

Good location, the exterior is a bit dilapidated but the interior has been improved and the grounds are interesting. Have stayed here previously with a walking group and found the service very good which is why I selected this for an overnight stay.

Located on a hillside overlooking Church Stretton and the surrounding countryside, the Longmynd has the ambience of a grand Victorian hotel. If a disco is scheduled for the night of your stay, you might want to request a room in a quieter part of the hotel.

We enjoyed our stay but felt the hotel was past its best and needed updating a bit.It was also extremely hot which made us a little uncomfortable. The service at dinner lacked finesse in as much as we felt the waitress could have taken a bit more care in the presentation of our meal. We both had wine marks under our glasses and she managed to drop a knife. Otherwise everyone was very pleasant and the location is superb. We would stay there again

Ideal location. Revist from trip from many years ago. Very enjoyable. Rooms maintained at quite a hot temperature which made it difficult to sleep. Could see no way to turn down the temperature of the room.
