The Old Brick Guesthouse is an 18th-century grade II listed building situated in the medieval town of Bishop’s Castle.
Score from 107 reviews Wonderful
The bedroom was clean and the bed was comfortable. We had a good breakfast.
The hotel seems to cater mainly for special interest holiday groups. On the Saturday night we stayed only a buffet meal was available due to a large walking group staying so we had to find somewhere else for dinner. The bedroom was dated and needed refurbishing.
the chalet and the food at the hotel
Dog welcome in chalet. Hotel and grounds exactly what we wanted. Restaurant excellent with happy, enthusiastic, staff.
Although we took all meals in the hotel, we thought the cutlery, china and kitchen equipment would have been woefully inadequate had we decided to self cater.
The location, the old fashioned feel to the hotel. Beautiful decor in the bar area, lovely clean and welcoming pool.
Maybe an update to the decor but keeping with the old feel. Arrangements for breakfast could be better so you know where to sit and which table breakfast is for you. The evening dinner menu was not tempting after we had planned to dine in the hotel. having a more homely choice of traditional food would be good for us.Would stay again and make more use of the lovely pool area and hopefully will have a better menu by that time.
Comfortable lodge. Helpful staff.
Lack of option to settle balance on arrival by means of payment other than the card used to guarantee the booking.
The food was excellent the service good
Lack of staff at reception the room was not what we booked
Comfortable accommodation and very good value for money. Excellent centre for walking. First class breakfasts. Very obliging staff - very happy to arrange local taxis.
Proved impossible to alter a booking by contacting the hotel itself - had to do everything through Booking.com. Booked 4 rooms and all charged to my personal credit card without checking with me first. Reception was unable to provide me with a detailed breakdown of the account - had to go through head office - still waiting !
Helpfull staff. The breakfast was great. The location is beautiful. We have stayed at the longmynd twice before (the first time was 15 yrs ago on our honeymoon) & thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
This time was very different. The a la carte menu had been dropped for a very poor buffet style evening meal which was not in any way worth £24 per person that we were charged. The room we stayed in has not been refurbished since the mid 80's. The hotel now seems to be catering for ramblers (we had no problem with this) but it meant we were put in the breakfast area & not the main restaurant area & the staff seemed at a loss as what to do with us as we weren't part of a group. The evening meat time was 7.30pm, one sitting & no leeway. Very disappointed.
Stayed in self-catering bungalows, well equipped but with some essentials missing - frying pan and can opener which were quickly replaced by staff. Friendly staff.
WIFI doesn't work in the bungalows. had to go to hotel to get reception. Fixed time for dinner in restaurant.
Staff friendly and helpful at times, unhelpful at others. Lovely views, great potential. Do you really mean 200 character MINIMUM
Some staff could not operate the till. Wrong items rung up on my account - others NOT rung up (not unusual I heard). Basic items missing in bungalow and not provided on request. Bulb out at bedside - not replaced on request.
Lodge was well equipped, very comfortable and peaceful. Beautiful green view from bedroom and lounge Parking right outside
The location was good. It was nice and quiet, and fairly comfortable.
Nothing in particular. It was basic, but that's what you get for the price!
The location and the hotel being amongst woods. Squirrels in the grounds
The lodge I was in could have done with a proper clean, as con webs on ceilings and walls indicated cleaning was restricted to bathrooms and hard surfces
Poor WI-FI in the Lodges
Being in a self contained bungalow meant we could please ourselves without disturbing others. Handy to the shops and lovely to be up in the trees.
Staff and location excellent
Hotel caters very much for organised walking holidays and the menus were therefore limited although the food was good
Dated, more suited to older people
The bedrooms in the main hotel are spacious and comfortable. The bar is comfortable and attractive.
The cabins are a bit dingy and are quite basic. The breakfasts in the hotel are terrible.
Clean and comfortable, good value for money, lovely location. Cardingmill valley was beautiful.
Trees at the back of Lodge no 4 need pruning as the rooms were very dark and gloomy. The rate for a dog (£15/night) was rather high.
The fact that my credit card was debited without giving me the option to pay by alternative means and not informing me they were doing this. There was poor meal options, a limited dinner menu, not suitable for our age group and the breakfast time was merely1 1/4 hours to 9 am.
Spacious lodge, comfy bed,. plenty of hot water. Nice grounds with interesting sculptures.
Good location for walking and friendly staff.
Very poor internet. Food fairly basic.
Great breakfast with helpful, pleasant staff. We were given a three roomed suit on a £70 B&B rate! Pool very welcome after a climb up the Long Mynd! Very quiet at night.
Nothing really. If we'd paid more for the room then I might have been more picky but as it was I certainly can't complain!
Was given a complimentary upgrade from single room to double. Location - private grounds. I knew my motorbike would be safe, parked outside! Lovely view from my room.
Bed had springs that went "boing". WiFi OK in bar area, but not so good in bedroom.
Location and comfort.
