Location is superb at Russell Square - but that's where it ends. From the moment the disinterested and sour-faced staff go through the motions of check-in, one has a hope that things can only improve. Oh how wrong ! The carpet of the circuitous stairs leading to the second floor room appear to be stained with vomit and/or urine, Upon struggling to open the door one finds a 'cell' barely with sufficent space for the two single beds it houses. The carpet is non-existent and at best thread-bare,the exposed flooring splintered and uneven. Sparse furnishings are ad hoc and decrepit. With barely sufficient space for the suitcase, one needs to balance it vertically upon the wall - a surface which has been actively used as a handkerchief by previous occupants. The neat perspex cube posing as a shower recess is surprisingly functional with excellent shower pressure. However on searching for the toilet, one finds there is none - it exists twenty metres down the hallway. After finally falling asleep on the cheap foam mattress, I awake scratching, turn on the light and discover small black roaches over the pillow. True I have stayed in worse accommodation than the Lonsdale hotel - however they have never had the audacity to classify themselves as a hotel, nor charge the inappropriate rate of this establishment. I would not recommend The Lonsdale to a rodent.

Nothing! And I woke up with red bugs in my bed. Horrible! Everything! They couldn't even find my reservation at my arrival... And they were discussing with another guest about the filthiness of his room. My room was small, dirty and the bathroom door couldn't open because blocked by the bed... The red bugs I found in my bed the next day has been the worst experience in my life. It was impossible to find another place to stay in London that day, otherwise I would have happily lost my money and moved to another place.

Handing back the key after our 2 night stay. Location. Where to begin.....it was scruffy, dirty, run down and the staff were very disorganised. The reception area was a total mess, papers everywhere which meant it took ages for them to find our booking. Once it was finally located we were offered to look at our room before we paid.....we thought this was odd but this made us suspicious as to just how horrible the room would be and sure enough it was pretty grim, the curtains were so thin they didnt block out any light, the beds didnt have duvets and only one pillow each, the carpets and walls were grubby, the bathroom light didnt work unless you held it in place, the mirror was wonky there were large patches on the wall where they had taken things down and neglected to paint the holes the same as the walls and to top it off the walls were damp. If anyone is planning to stay in this hotel, make sure you check out your room first and negotiate the price, it is definately not worth what they are asking. Absolute dump, only good thing is the location.

This wass a very poor hotel. The staff were polite enough until they had taken my money. I arrived in my room to find the tv was broken so asked for a replacement or to be moved. I was told this couldn't happen, so I asked for a partial refund on my booking as the services were not as described - again I was told this couldn't happen. Then a different member of staff moved me to a new room. This was dirty, poorly decorated and the paint on the roof was pealing in several places due to water damage. The bedding was dirty and two different height single beds had been pushed together to make it a double. There is nothing positive I can say about my overnight stay.

Never got the rooms that I booked , was On the third floor with heavy suitcases and no lift , furniture uncomfortable and falling apart , walls dirty and cracked , overall I was disgusted with the place and it should not be open for business. I would have rather slept in the train station for the night .

Location and budget price. Bedlinen and towels clean and fresh. Shabby and tired looking hotel. Rooms superficially clean but very scruffy and in need of extensive refurbishment. Staff were at best pleasant but others, at worst, unfriendly and unwelcoming. No dining facilities (on reflection probably a good thing). Rooms very hot and unable to control heating radiators. Not a nice place to stay.

Very good location, on a not too busy street Almost evrerything that could break was broken (hooks, toiletry shelf, window sash cords, dodgy shared shower - floor flooded). No chair in room, certainly no tea / coffee making facilities. "Basic" is an understatement.

This is not a hotel, I have refused to go to the toilet in better places than this. The carpet was loose and came off on the stairs, the plaster was coming off the ceiling and there was no hot water.

If you inspected this hotel you would be appalled at the condition of the rooms and the hotel in general. Staff are ok but drinking bud outside does represent an ideal experience. In detail about the hotel; beds very thin to the point you could feel the springs, decor includes cracks, poor paintwork and more cracks, flooring that had never seen or heard of a dyson and ...... I could go on.

The hotel was dirty and obviously used for 'other purposes' during the day! Upon arriving, 1st room was too hot as the heater was suck on at hot. The second room had not been cleaned or the bedding changed or even made from previous guest. Finally the 3rd room had no power other than the lights. There is nothing to like about this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone!
