Location is superb at Russell Square - but that's where it ends. From the moment the disinterested and sour-faced staff go through the motions of check-in, one has a hope that things can only improve. Oh how wrong ! The carpet of the circuitous stairs leading to the second floor room appear to be stained with vomit and/or urine, Upon struggling to open the door one finds a 'cell' barely with sufficent space for the two single beds it houses. The carpet is non-existent and at best thread-bare,the exposed flooring splintered and uneven. Sparse furnishings are ad hoc and decrepit. With barely sufficient space for the suitcase, one needs to balance it vertically upon the wall - a surface which has been actively used as a handkerchief by previous occupants. The neat perspex cube posing as a shower recess is surprisingly functional with excellent shower pressure. However on searching for the toilet, one finds there is none - it exists twenty metres down the hallway. After finally falling asleep on the cheap foam mattress, I awake scratching, turn on the light and discover small black roaches over the pillow. True I have stayed in worse accommodation than the Lonsdale hotel - however they have never had the audacity to classify themselves as a hotel, nor charge the inappropriate rate of this establishment. I would not recommend The Lonsdale to a rodent.

5 mins walk from russell square tube station. Everything - No lift, very dirty, has bed bugs, unfriendly staff, beds old and stained with urine, no tea or coffee making facilities, nothing clean.

The location was close to where we were going. I was extremely unhappy. Filthy room, staff were unhelpful, when I asked to speak to a manager about cleanlyness of room they refused, when asked to clean cobwebs they said they would, and didn't. Feel like I have been faulsly advertised as the hotel looked nice in pics, but not somewhere I will ever consider staying again. Certainly wouldn't recommend it to a friend. Or even an enemy.

The only thing I can appreciate about the Lonsdale Hotel is its location, other than that every element of this hotel was so grim it was laughable. The Lonsdale's reception is simply a table in a room manned by unprofessional men who speak little English. There are no directions around the hotel to the rooms so we found ourselves trapsing through rooms of bleach and used bedding before we arrived. The window in our room did not lock properly and was easily accessible to the street. Also, we requested a twin room which turns out to be a double room meaning my friend and I slept back to back every night under the bedding which is just the thin sheets you receive on holiday abroad, along with 1 pillow as flat as paper. There was also no headboard but a gap between the bed and the wall. The sink in the corner of the room splashed onto the bed everytime the tap ran, it also dripped constantly. Finally, the shared bathroom was dirty, especially the shower and you had to bring toilet roll from your bedroom. Overall, I am a laidback traveller who camps very basically often and stays in simple hostels, but I believe the Lonsdale is taking a huge liberty charging what they do for their services and am horrified they are allowed to stay open never mind that they get the business to.

Ideal central location if you just want a bed. Bed fairly comfortable Double bed in a room only big enough for a single, so bathroom and cupboard doors wouldn't open fully. Water damage to bathroom door. TV not working. No toiletries except soap and no tea/coffee

The location of the Lonsdale is it's main positive. The staff were not of total English speaking and ordered our taxi for the wrong time. We were also told that they would find out where the one and only hairdryer was by 10:00 - but that must have been the time the receptionist changed shifts as when we went down at about 10:30 there were new staff who didn't know anything about us waiting for it.

It was very affordable and a great location in london, a five minute walk from russle square underground. The staff were able to check our group in early so we could leave our bags there while we were out, You get what you pay for I suppose, it was very dated, shared toilets, no internet and cold. The shower was a bit cramped too, and in one of the rooms the hot water didn't work.

This hotel should be shut down. The room was appaulling. It looked and smelt like it had never been clean. The beds were old, shappy with springs that came through the mattress. They were full of bed bugs and god knows what else. The en-suite was terrifying and I didn't go in there. I slept in my clothes all night until 6:00 am when I left to sit in paddington station for 2 hours waiting for my train because it was preferable to being in that room. I am a londer and have stayed in lots of hotels in london and this is the worst experience of my life. I think the authoriteis should go in there and do something about it. If a tourist came to this place it would be devestating and a slight on our great city. SHUT IT DOWN.

There was nothing to like about this hotel, and I regularly use budget hotels in the area. I booked on en-suite arrived to find they didn't have any (why collect a mobile number of booking.com if the hotel don't ring to let you know the room you booked isn't available). No remote for the t.v. So you couldn't use it, no plug for the sink, not very clean, electric sockets loose, window broken.....list goes on.

Cheap(ish) and good location. I found the receptionist rude when we arrived. The people in front of us did not speak very good English and just got punted off to another hotel - I don't think they were even given a taxi, just an address. I thought that was a very poor way to treat visitors to GB. Having said that it was cheap(ish) and all we wanted. Looking back I really wish that I had helped the visitors in front to find their alternative location as it might have shown GB in a better light. I will put below that I would recommend the place to other travellers but as long as they don't mind being given a new location on a bit of paper and told to make their own way there.

The location is the only positive comment I can make about this hotel, the service was poor, the room was messy with old fashion broken chest of draws no kettle in the room and the telly was also not working not the sort of place you'd want to spend any length of time in the room.

The location is good for euston, kings cross and central london The facilities are very poor. No heating in room for one. Water pressure very low on higher floors. Shower and washing very difficult. Also ground floor room is very small. Indicates the owner wants to make extra room for income rather than comfortable for guesses. Without breakfast, no tea/coffee in room and not even a kettle in room makes The charge £75 per night is extremely ridiculous.

Thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback. I have travelled extensively in South America and stayed in very basic accommodation. Nothing, though, as awful as this hotel. I am now nursing at least 20 flea bites. I killed at least 3 fleas while I was at the hotel. The hotel bed was not made when I arrived but it was only later that I realised that the sheets had not been changed from the previous guest. The sheets were not changed nor the bed made while I stayed the 3 nights at the hotel. Neither was any attempt made to clean the room. The hotel needs to be reported to environmental health and the London Tourist Board and I assume you will do this immediately. I have no problem with the hotel being spartan but this hotel contravenes health and safety regulations. It's existence in London is a disgrace, I assume that the owners will at some point be prosecuted.

Very cheap for central London. Nice quiet location. The Lonsdale was simply not up to hotel standard. I've stayed in nicer Youth Hostels. For £45/night in central London I guess I can live with the sloping and uneven floor, smelly bathrooms, lack of chair in the bedroom, peeling paint, and general grottiness. But I object to the slats under the mattress giving way during the night.
