This the second time I was staying in the Lonsdale hotel in London, this time with my family with the small child. And again it was a very good experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious to accommodate all of us and our lagguage, it was warm, clean and quiet so we could really have a good rest and sleep. Due to sudden new circumstances we had to extend our stay by one night and it was not at all a problem - the staff was very undestanding and helpful. There is nothing we did not like. The only suggestion is that we understand that The Lonsdale Hotel does not provide catering services, but if we may suggest, it would imrove the overall experience if there is some corner/area with plates, cutlery, cups to prepare tea/coffee and some simple refresment, and wash the dishes. Thank you.

Location No frills doesn't even begin to describe this dismal and dingy place. No stars is more accurate. My "single" en suite room had 2 single beds, 2 doubles (all on the point of falling apart),and an array of tacky old bits of furniture. After finding the door lock didn't work I requested another. That was marginally better, but was still pretty horrible. Tiny shower cubicle smelt nasty and there wasn't even a water glass. And I discovered next morning that the shower was broken, so a bit pointless paying for an en suite. Staff were pleasant. I guess they can't be blamed for the dreadful state of the rooms. I won't be back, and wouldn't recommend it to others. A hostel would be better. This is NOT a bargain.

quietness at the time I was staying, close to the tube station with good connectivity to other parts of London, overall very good accommodation for the price asked, my room was clean, warm; some staff welcoming, some just normal. I have already arranged a stay in the Lonsdale again and would definitely recommend it to my good friends. there was nothing I did not like.

AVOID THIS HOTEL LIKE THE PLAGUE We booked 2 bedrooms in this ''hotel'' on arrival and we were requested to pay up front, which, is very unusual. We experienced the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Family member became ill and we had to leave early due to the condition of the hotel. The double rooms were small, dirty and both rooms had a disgusting smell, which, became unbearable. Bedding was stained, torn and dirty, carpets filthy and had seen better days and in need of replacement, shower drain overflowed when used, Doors were also badly damaged in both bedrooms. This hotel needs a complete refurbishment. Bedroom 2: Curtains badly stained Carpet badly stained Chain lock missing on door On suite is a very small cubicle Walls badly marked & damaged Terrible smell in bedroom Window would not open Paint work scratched on skirting boards Bedroom 3: Hole in wall Wall light had a plaster repair job without being painted Carpet badly stained & dirty Bedroom quilt had holes & was ripped at side cigarette burns Paint work scratched on skirting Terrible smell in bedroom 2 windows, only 1 would open, but room was on ground level, therefore, could not leave open unattended as it could not be secured. We could not get out of this hotel quick enough. Do not stay at this disgusting hotel and do not take children or babies to it.

To have somewhere to stay the night in a big city at a fair price. It was very close to the British Museum which was the reason for my trip. We had to climb down some stairs which I found awkward. I felt I was in a cellar. I was cold in bed as there was no blanket only a sheet and very meagre bedcover. There was no bedside light of any description which meant stumbling back to bed once the light was off. The room was very shabby and in need of paint. No way of making tea or coffee. Not warned in advance what is actually meant by 'Basic'.

Friendly staff, great location. When we tried to check-in, lady at the reservation desk said that our room was not ready, not cleaned yet. So we came back after 6 hours, and not still not cleaned! Thay give us the clean sheets, towels, and bags for trash, and we cleaned our room ourselves! At that moment, we have to stay there, so we couldn't yell and go to another hotel. By the way, they take your money *before* you see your room. DO NOT STAY THERE.

The location is great. Close to everything especially train and bus links. Depressing place. Dirty crappy rooms.Smelly. Bathroom separate but stayed budget. Had no choice due to the London marathon and most hotels booked out or incredibly expensive.Definately will pay more for a better hotel next time.

The staff were friendly and the bedding was clean The room needed updating. There were hot copper pipes running around the room and although the bedding was clean, the room itself wasn't particularly clean. The furniture was in very poor condition.

It was cheap and in a convenient location The towel in the room was dirty, the towel rail was bent and hanging off the wall, the mattress was horrendously squeaky and uncomfortable, the reception staff couldnt even tell me where the supposed 'shared bathroom' or toilet was. The bed looked liked someone had just slept in it and there was some damp toilet roll on the sink when I arrievd.

I liked nothing about this hotel. It is possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and I work in the hospitality Industry. I have stayed in hostels which were superior. It is unfair and rather misleading to describe this place as a hotel. The only thing I liked was departing this place and the fact that I would never see it again. I did not like the fact that I was not greeted upon arrival. The woman at the reception who was on the phone pointed to the sign and said that I could not check in until 3pm. I did not like the stifling heat in the room and the fact that I could not turn off the radiator but that we had to open the window and waste heat! The place has not been decorated in about 30 years and is in a grotty state. The bathroom is tiny and you have to step up into the bathroom which is similar to one in an aircraft. The two older ladies where just generally rude and would ignore me when I approached the reception. The younger reception girl was nice and pleasant though. She deserves to work for a better employer. My room was at the back of the building facing a building site and the room actually shook when a digger was driving by outside. The floorboards squeaked as I walked over them. The smoke detector above the bed flashed constantly and made it difficult to sleep. The place smelled and was generally in a very bad condition. No money has been invested in this property and too much money is being wasted on unnecessary heating. I would be surprised to hear if anybody enjoyed their stay in this place. I did not see any emergency exits or any emergency evacuation plan or any fire extinguishers present. In hindsight I should have asked for a refund and left. Also upon check out I was advised that I would have to pay £5 per bag to store our bags which is appalling and down right greedy. I would strongly advise nobody to stay at this place.

You get exactly what you pay Budget hotel provides the essentials and thats that. Providing breakfasts with charge or offering wifi are not considered luxuries anymore!! These converted victorian buildings (small hotels) are on a time limit. Investors / hotel owners started eating in to their investments now. It is time that whole of them renovated to todays standards by perhaps keeping the history and facades of buildings only! Everything else has to go and to be rebuilt.

Location was great Worst nights sleep ever!! Just horrendous. No sound proofing, you could hear everything everywhere, snoring, the toilet up the hall, people walking sounded like a herd of elephants and it went on all night. Even switched rooms in the night because my tv was broken and I hoped to use it to drown out the noise and it was just as bad elsewhere. Barely slept a wink until dawn. Just awful. The bedding was threadbare, the rooms tatty, you could feel the chords and springs in the mattresses which sank in the middle, the whole place is how I imagine a squat to be like.

location It was the filthiest establishment I have entered. I could hear the occupiers of neighbouring rooms talking throughout the night. I spept with the light on for the first night to keep possible pests at bay. I told my wife not to join me because it was so bad, I did not stay for the second paid night. furniture was in shoddy condition, Clumps of hair, possibly human on the floor, Carpet poorly fitted and had not been cleaned in years, On suite consisted of a small unusable cupboard that housed Sink (Shelf over sink made it unusable, Toilet - that was usable but cramped, Shower, merely a trickle of water. Curtains did not fit the window and were filthy, Thw window frames were falling apart and not lockable and there were no curtains or screened glass on the shared communal bathromm I could have used a floor below. I could go on, but feel it is wasting my time and effort if such a place remains open
