Serving exceptional gourmet cuisine, this 16th-century travelers inn has played host to both Dickens and Darwin. With beautiful, Elizabethan decor, The Lion is in the heart of historic Shrewsbury.

Score from 156 reviews Excellent
Very reasonable price. Rooms reasonable size.
The cleanliness was a bit poor. Particularly in the bathroom.
Comfortable, clean and friendly.
the room smelt of cigarettes even though it was meant to be non smoking. the bed squeaked every time you turned over and the pillows were lumpy.
Breakfast Decor of dining room
Location : a nice stroll into the town centre Staff : nothing too much trouble
We enjoyed all aspects of the hotel
Clean room. Lovely breakfast.
We had a lovely suite and enjoyed the accommodation and the breakfast. Staff were helpful and I would recommend this hotel.
Room Evening meal in restaurant Parking
Service at breakfast was only fair (didn't seem very friendly)....and no natural yoghurt and limited fresh fruit.
Would like to have been in main hotel. I think there should be a covered walkway from main hotel to the lodge, it was raining a lot of the time we were there.
Food very good with excellent breakfasts
SUALITY AND SERVICE
All was good - but would have been happier for a minimal overnight fee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
within easy walk of Shrewsbury town centre. Lovely breakfast, cooked food served hot.
Very poor breakfast service one morning. Staff did not know what they were doing, not enough tables laid up. Slow service
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful whilst remaining professional at all times. The food in the bar restaurant was excellent.
Short walk to town, friendliness of staff in hotel, very good pub opposite hotel, all in all a very good stay
Bed not too comfortable
soulless, shabby, dated. Clean enough but whole room needs updating - particularly bathroom.
The room was very big and pleasant and the staff was very friendly
It was close to a road with a rather heavy traffic in the morning, so it was a bit noisy.
We had a lovely evening meal. Comfortable four-poster bed.
This hotel should have 4**** not 3
Tea making in the room and a bath after a long day.
TV didn't appear to work but were a late arrival hence the reason why didn't complain. Bed was a bit too hard for my daughter.
Nice people Good car parking Very clean
T.v. a little cantankerous
Unique feeling, perfect breakfast, nice conservatory restaurant, interesting menu, fine and modern kitchen, helpful staff, creative chef.
It was clean and staff were friendly. There was a good selection for breakfast on offer
We were based at the Lodge which was clean and spacious, however, it was in the basement which made the room too warm and stuffy throughout the night. This resulted in an uncomfortable nights sleep. Waking on an off throughout the night. There was a window that opened but did not feel safe keeping this open through the night for the fear of someone being able to get in.
Friendly efficient service from staff
Being booked in at the lodge, and no facilities for hanging up coat and umbrella when going to main building for meals.
Nice clean rooms. Friendly staff Good breakfast selection Close to city centre
Shower in bath rather than separate
big comfortable room very clean excellent en-suite facilities very comfortable bed slept like a log
could not access any music in the room
