Lostwithiel Hotel Golf & Country ClubLower Polscoe, PL22 0HQ Lostwithiel (Show map) Good, Score from 34 reviewsSituated close to the ancient town of Lostwithiel in the heart of Cornwall, the hotel is a great base for discovering coastlines, quiet inland villages, ancient towns and historic houses. Lostwithiel Hotel Golf & Country Club offers outstanding comfort and service. It is idyllically set among 150 acres of rolling wooded hills which look down onto the beautiful and tranquil valley of the Fowey River. The hotel is also within driving distance of the Eden Project. The spacious and individually designed bedrooms have been created from old Cornish barns with their mellowed stone and beamed ceilings set around an attractive courtyard. The mood of rural tranquility is reflected in the delightful country pine furniture. The hotel has its own restaurant and bar as well as gym, an indoor heated swimming pool, tennis courts and beautiful 18-hole golf course overlooking the Fowey River and close to the ancient town of Lostwithiel. The owner and staff were very friendly and the service was therefore good. The golf facilities are good, though not a "golf resort". The chef was good and the food was of a good standard - locally sourced and fresh not frozen. The prices were very reasonable. It is quite near to the Eden Project, which was our main reason for visiting. We were early season and the food selection was a little restricted by items running out. The menu in the rooms didn't match the menu in the bar or restaurant. However the chef produced an excellent alternative fish meal for my wife when the menu options were absent. The rooms are in separate buildings which means a walk for breakfast. Not a problem in good weather but a bit of a handicap in February!

A nice quiet secluded setting. Very scenic. The rooms were a nice size and very comfortable. Did not rate breakfast. English breakfast was a bit sparce ie a quarter slice of fried bread, no beans, still felt hungry after eating. No hot water in the morning to get a wash.

There was a casual attitude and friendly bar and restaurant staff. Being in outbuildings meant that there were not fellow travellers walking along the corridors and no lifts to cope with. Parking was easy. The room was dark and dismal. The shower wasn't cleaned properly all the time we were there. The bed/bedding smelt slightly strange.

Positives: - very nice location, views to the woods, castle - quiet location, very romantic, fresh air - very characteristic hotel, cottages - friendly staff - swimming pool, gym, golf facility - I have visited many places in the UK, but this place has definately the most starry sky I have ever seen in the UK Negatives: - couple of spider nets in the room, couple of hair in the bath - English breakfast- there was no black pudding, hashbrowns, one day there were no mushrooms, other day no baked beans and one day we got burnt toasts

Nothing much... appart from the staff quite friendly. It is not good for families with kids... rooms set us very poor... the insulation poor, the noise is madness. We didn t spend much time in the rooms appart from sleeping lol...Rooms not clean, spiders and spiderwebs everywhere including bathrooms. Food wise not much of a choice. Other than for golfers I wouldn't recommend.

Nothing - it was awful. the staff are rude. Not once were we welcomed professionally. There are no ironing facilities in your room, you have to take your clothes into the corridor of another part of the hotel to use a communal. The room needed a good clean and was full of spiders. The pool had no nice furniture around it, just stained broken chairs. The food was very expensive for what it was.

Helpful, friendly staff through-out the hotel. Facilities adequate, although not quite as good as expected for the amount being charged !!! Booked a de-luxe double, but had to settle for a twin double. Although the room had been "refurished", it had scope for improvements in some of its basic fittings. Fairly cleaned, although en suite had problems with water drainage from the new shower unit - in danger of overflowing onto bathroom floor if you stayed more than a couple of minutes. Evidence of problem from the discoloured and stained shower tray !!!! Perhaps just a bit too quiet which had the effect of losing atmosphere - somewhat surprising considering it was a golf/hotel complex.

Wonderful countryside - very quiet - close to all the points of interest (Eden - Heligan etc) we wanted to see. Very friendly staff. Would stay here again. But we both really enjoyed our stay except for the weather !!!. Only one negative need a higher standard of sound proofing in the room (we were staying in the stable complex) it was quiet when we stayed but could imagine if it was busy with noiser people it might have been a problem.

Nice surroundings and good base for local sightseeing. Restaurant poor, expensive and ordinary food. No atmosphere. Ots of bad language from other male groups of diners. Rooms not too bad but soundproofing appaling, noisy talking and TV etc up to 3.00am in the morning, couldn't sleep!

We were very impressed with the barman who was also the waiter. He had an excellent attitude and was very helpful and obliging. My wife is allergic to eggs which often causes problems but he quickly got all the answers we needed. Seeing as he had a bar full of golfers and still managed to wait on us in another room was very praiseworthy. Good on him ! We also thought the hotel notes were very well and amusingly written, Spencer Holtom The bright blue light on the tv was very irritating after we turned out the lights. I had to throw a shirt over the set. There should be instructions as to how to turn off the tv at the mains, a small notice would suffice. Otherwise we could not fault the delightful hotel, Spencer Holtom

Very pleasant atmosphere, especially in the golf club bar. You could just relax there, play some pool, snooker or darts. Rooms small but nice and stylish.
