this is a wonderful place, there were no other guests when we stayed so it was just like having our own country house floating in a 50s dream. great staff, beautiful grounds and gardens and we were treated like special guests rather than paying customers.
A very warm welcome to a traditional property. I loved it. Wish I had more time to explore the grounds. Staff went out their way to assist us with an early breakfast which they didn't have to do - it was appreciated very much
Nothing, it was my kind of place :)
The location was convenient, the house was impressive but past it's best. It could be an absolute gem but we got the impression that we were unwelcome guests in someone's house.
When we booked and asked for breakfast at 7am, we were told we could only have cereal and toast. On arrival, James the staff on duty asked us to fill in our orders for a cooked breakfast which we did, thinking there had been a change of plan. Despite the fact that James was willing to get up early and cook the breakfast, Mrs. Clarke, the owner, would not allow him to do so. We were not made to feel welcome by this lady!
Antique furniture, staying in an old country house. It's not a normal B&B, more like being a guest in Mrs Clark's home. Having breakfast in the dining room with real china and solid silver cutlery! Wifi was good. Owner and staff were really nice. I liked the unique character of the place! I'd stay here again.
It could have been a bit cleaner, it's a little bit dusty.
The Friendly staff, Mrs Clarke and the position of the house. the food was good and the atmosphere friendly once you got to know them
not realizing you could only pay by cash
Wonderful gardens, very comfy room and super breakfast
Rather a shame we had to use the car to go into Hexham for dinner
Lovely old house, spacious bedroom. Excellent jams and chutneys.
Poor traffic conditions made us very late and we had to disturb the owner on our arrival.
Location was good, very quiet with nice gardens to wander through.
Not good value, shabby tired decor, worn carpets, shared dated bathrooms which weren't clean enough, broken fixtures and fittings throughout.
Lovely gardens and historical house Set far from the road so no noise but sheep.
The prevalent smell of dog. Very old facilities, such as a bathroom renovated in the 1960s. Very soft squishy mattress.
This is a house of faded grandeur. It is not a clinical, spotless, faceless hotel where every room looks the same. What you pay for is one of life's memorable experiences & we loved it. Fresh flowers in the room & a chamber pot by the bed, home made preserves for breakfast.
Could only stay one night.
A beautiful old house on wonderful grounds. Set in a medieval town. The lady running the guest house and the owner were very welcoming and friendly.
Food was well prepared Gardens and accommodation were good Bed was comfortable Attention from staff was superb
Shower was difficult to work, took a long time to get temperature of water correct
We liked the friendliness, the breakfast, the uniqueness, the setting and the history.
The rooms were rather dusty.
Expected a comfortable country house, got a very faded run down country house never updated from when it was set up on the 70's very disappointed.
A most impressive house and delightfully grand and friendly environment. It is a unique and memorable experience.
Back in time. It was a great experience
We liked the feeling of staying in a private country house. Drawing room is large with family portraits and interesting books to read in bedrooms. Breakfast good. Mrs. Clark, the owner, has a good knowledge of the area and has lived there for 50 years. Beautiful garden.
