pleasant staff, excellent breakfast.
our room had a view of a brick wall
hot in the room, but with window open a great deal of traffic noise.
The staff were very kind and helpful. Breakfast was reasonable. Wifi was ok.
We booked three nights here, as we were visiting our family nearby. We were initially given Room 229, in the annexe. We were in a hurry to get to see the family so although we were very disappointed in the very small and dingy room, we just dropped off our luggage and went out again straight away. When we returned at 10.45pm the external door to the annexe was locked (there was a notice on the door saying it would be locked at 11.pm) so we had to go into the main building, up a couple of flights of stairs, along various corridors and then down a couple of very narrow and steep flights to gain access to the room. Once we began to unpack and take in the surroundings, it became obvious that this is The Hotel That Time Forgot. It has not been refurbished for decades, the fittings, decorations and furnishings are extremely shabby. We had a terrible night's sleep...the mattresses were lumpy and we could feel the springs...the should have been in a skip! The pillows were old, cheap, flat and hard. During the night and very early the next morning there was a lot of noise from the room above...the floorboards were creaking loudly every time the occupant moved around. The final straw was the next morning when we tried to use the bath...the cold tap knob came off in my hand. The bathroom fittings consisted of a toilet, pedestal washbasin and a bath with shower over. The tiling, shower screen and sealant around the bath were mouldy, the door into the bathroom would not stay closed as the locking mechanism was broken. We complained bitterly and demanded another room. We were then offered the choice of two other bigger rooms in the annexe 230 and 233. We decided to take 233, after the lovely staff offered to swap the mattresses from 230. The second and third nights were better, but the quality of the bedding, curtains and decor were just as bad. We paid £230 for three nights in this dump, which is an insult to the reputation of Best Western.
staff, location, food,
decor a bit tired
Staff so helpful
Food menu could be a bit better, but food still very good
The hotel is really shabby. In need of a desperate update. Bed was dreadful. Food was good.
Excellent staff, friendly and helpful. Good restaurant and excellent breakfast once, mediocre second time.
Dismal single room, aged shower and bathroom. Floors that creaked noisily all through the building and all through the night as other guests went to their rooms.
Friendly staff. Comfortable room. Lovely bar area.
A bit dated in places. Roasting in the room!
We had a family lunch for 30 in a private room and the meal was excellent and service really good
We stayed 2 nights and were very disappointed with the room. It was tiny, very hot, the carpets were frayed and rumpled. The bed squeaked every time you moved. It was the worst 2 nights sleep we have had.
Room, Bed & bathroom, were good, we had high tea and it was very good.
Terrible noise during 11pm - 7 am, I know this droning, rumbling noise was NOT HEARD in our friends room! but , most annoying in room 202. NO LIFT.
very nice Bar/Pub, very good breakfast
Value for money. First class service. Staff brilliant. Food Excellent.
Not a thing.
Staff Great steak Convenient location
Road noise Plumbing noise (all night) Plastic sheeting and very tired carpet???
Location and parking was good. Enjoyed our meals and found plenty of choice on the menu.
There was no lounge in which to relax. Sitting areas were restricted to bars and dining room. There was a noisy wedding party below our room on the Saturday night, with music until the early hours.
It was an ideal location for us. Staff were friendly and it was fairly quiet.
Lack of vegetarian choices for dinner but if you speak to them beforehand they will try to accommodate. Poor decor, tired rooms and carpet had wrinkles in it.
Good staff, helpful and friendly
Rooms poorly maintained, and very worn / tired
We only stayed one night and cost was for room only, thought it was a bit steep, also it was quite noisy.
everything about the hotel was excellent
Use of leisure facilities at sister hotel The Queens. The restaurant
No air conditioning,
The staff at reception was extremely helpful which is good as she was the first person you come in contact with.
Good facilities. Wifi was effective in most places.
The way they rejected booking.com rate and said they can't give that because and I said I will make payment by a different card in the booking comments. Also other colleagues of mine who booked directly on same day got bed and breakfast for the same rate. Very strange and first such case I have had where we did not get same rates for same privileges on the same day when going thru booking.com.
Staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. Free WiFi. Comfortable bed. Spacious room. Value for money. Free Parking. (did not have food at hotel so can not comment)
Decor/Carpet/Furniture is very tired looking. 8am Saturday morning (approx) being woken up by the bins being collected.
dated rooms and facilities , Food.
