Food was amazing, unusual and plenty of it. Would be hard pressed to have a better meal!
Food room sitting room service from Henry
We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived. The breakfast choice was plentiful with the English being served hot and tasty. Carolyn gave us a number of local pubs to choose where to eat an evening meal. We chose the Jolly Frog which we can recommend. The hosts did everything to make us feel at home and relaxed, which was the reason for our visit. Lower Buckton is a country house B&B so don't expect the Ritz Hotel. You step back in time when you set foot through the front door with original portraits and silverware in abundance. The nostalgia in the rooms downstairs is what makes this location so appealing. A big thanks to Carolyn and Henry for an enjoyable weekend.
The only down side to the location was the lack of phone signal (O2) but this was offset by the free wifi. The weather turned nasty on our second day curtailing our planned walks.
The staff, the house and the food
Relaxed, rural location. Charming hosts. Clean and comfortable, with bags of period details. Scrummy breakfasts featuring lots of homemade and locally sourced products - delicious. We came away feeling thoroughly rested and spoiled.
Friendly staff, fantastic breakfast, lovely location.
TV but no TV channels ?
Made very welcome
The owners are slendid people, determined to do all they can for theirguests. WEwere made to feel at home. The food was excellent.and we thoroughlyenjoyed our stay.
Lower Buckton is a one off. A family home, with the furnishings and trappings of a family - cosy and old fashioned with the warm and special welcome of Carolyn and Henry. Carolyn hosts and cooks, Henry chats and waits on. Carolyn runs cookery courses both at the house and in the locality and wider county. On this midweek day in September we were the only guests, but according to the visitors book, there is a large clientèle who are dedicated to the atmosphere and offerings of the house and return regularly. The food - the meat - is from local sourcing, and the vegetables and fruit from Henry's garden. Don't visit if you're stuffy, or you need television , because this is a television free house. And it has no licence and you are requested to bring your own drink. At £170 for two for bed, breakfast and dinner, its good value. My wife and I would certainly make a return visit if we were in the vacinity,
Not much if anything
Never saw hostess apart from bumping into her in car park.Cream tea on arrival very poor; scones very dry.Offered an evening meal at £35 per head[bring your own wine].Declined & glad we did because when we got back to hotel, owners having a blazing row! Doors slamming, shouting, storming out.I Suppose it could have been entertaining! We left a day early & still charged full rate but I expected that.
Very relaxing. Super friendly hosts. More like a house party than a hotel.
