Views from the room, the food in restaurant
Disappointed could not get in the restaurant the first night, having driven and was our anniversary we had to go in to town to look for a place to eat.
Cathy; the receptionist was excellent, she was very pleasant and knowledgeable. A great start to our visit.
in the public areas some of the paintwork could do with some attention, some of the fire doors were dirty. The waiting staff at breakfast should clear tables as they go. On both mornings they passed our table, and others, on their way to the kitchen without making any attempt to clear dirty plates, cereal, fruit bowls and finished breakfast plates piled on the table is not attractive or professional!!
The staff were outstanding (and fun) The gardens Enjoyable meals
Bedroom Layout awkward No lift for the elderly TV set up was virtually unusable Poor WiFi reception
Lovely location, wonderful staff. A real gem
The room with a view was perfect, spacious, clean and very comfortable. We could lie in bed and see the sea.
Unfortunately we had a loud snorer in the room next to us. We were also surprised that coffee or tea wasn't offered following our evening meal.
Views great. Breakfast good and evening menu had lots of choice. My young daughter and mother-in-law enjoyed their meal in the restaurant. Lots of restaurants in Old Shanklin nearby. Gardens / tea room attractive and play area handy for young children.
Decor and facilities need updating. Bar area was dark and enclosed. Could do with opening up bar and restaurant area to make it more light and airy. Walk through chine to shops a bit steep for elderly.
Shanklin is a very pretty town and has lots of good places to eat and have a few drinks, the hotel is centrally located between the town and beach and takes less than 10 minutes to walk to either. The hotel is very much family orientated and has a lot to offer for all ages. We would definately use this hotel again.
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
The Chef is fantastic and I would gladly eat anything that he has cooked. The gardens are beautiful and well worth investigating.
The staff were over familiar and unprofessional compared to other hotels I have stayed in but were helpful to a point. There are a number of stairs in this hotel and no lift so if you have a lot of luggage or if you suffer with mobility problems this could be an issue.
Staff friendly out door pool and garden area good
Need supervision food hit and miss
The Staff were fantastic couldn't do enough for you. The room was comfortable. The views were amazing. The house was lovely. Great swimming pools inside and out with a hot tub. Great gardens. Tea garden a nice touch. Access to beach.
The place needs a refurb. the building the rooms hallways all very tried. The dining room was the worse we didn't want to eat in there as it looked so depressing. The gardens were lovely but it needed a lot of attention dead leaves, branches flowers no water in the ponds not everywhere but just spoilt the look of what is a beautiful garden. Breakfast average. No home product used.
Location, friendly staff, excellent shower!, inter-connecting door between rooms. Outdoor swimming pool and facilities.
Television in room had very poor reception. Bathroom a little tired - shower enclosure needs power cleaning to remove mould on tiles.
The friendly staff made us feel welcome. The atmosphere was extremely relaxing & the swimming pools & games facilities were very good. The room was cleaned to a very high standard daily & the hotel grounds were a joy to walk through with well manicured gardens & flower pots.
The central lobby was unable to vent accumulated hot air at high ambient temperatures (25-30degC) leading to our bedroom (No4) being extremely hot even though the room windows were permanently wide open. Some form of skylight vent is definitely needed! Or fans should be provided for the rooms off the lobby hall.
Great location. Very comfortable hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location. Great choice for breakfast and nice outdoor play area for children. Hotel itself could do with a little updating but didn't detract.
There wasn't anything we didn't actually like.
Fantastic Location Lovely Outdoor pool with sunbeds Indoor pool with Sauna Clean rooms Good quality linen & towels Friendly, helpful staff Brilliant for families with children Within walking distance of Shanklin pubs and shops
Hotel in the public areas is a little tired but that didn't really make any difference.
Dirty outdoor pool
Nice quiet location but also just a short walk to the old town and the beach. Fantastic sea views from bedroom and dining room. Lovely, well kept gardens with lots of places to sit and relax. Good facilities: outdoor and indoor pool etc. Friendly, helpful staff.
Can't think of anything
Beautiful location overlooking the sea. Fine old house with tasteful extensions and modifications. Superbly maintained gardens & grounds. Nice outdoor pool area. Spacious bedroom with good facilities. Free Wi-Fi. Very helpful & polite staff.
Very poor residents lounge and rather uninviting bar area. Choking heat in the indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi area. Complicated TV system in the bedroom with poor selection of channels, not even news channels available. Wi-Fi very slow.
The postion of the Hotel - fabulous views. There is a very pretty garden to walk around (well maintained). A lovely outside swimming pool and a very attractive tea garden. Staff very friendly and helpful. I could add a lot more but, would advise booking and seeing for yourself - you will not be disappointed.
What didn't we like that's a difficult one! Maintenance required i.e outside paintwork. The bar was a little dismal (perhaps the lighting). These are only comments and in no way did anything spoil a perfect holiday.
Loved the location, the views were amazing. And we have a 2 year old who never got board, the facilities for children are great. Had am amazing time and will go back soon.
The only thing I would say are the walls are very thin, and I could hear movement from the people up above and in the next room which was a bit annoying at 12 in the morning but my child and partner slept through it.
Loved the swimming pool and outside area.
No room service and very limited channels on the tv
Absolutely brilliant for my two children - loads to do at the hotel and a short (though steep) walk down to the beach. The staff were excellent - really helpful and friendly. Would definitely go again - my children are already asking to book the same hotel for next year!! :)
Nothing!! May not be luxurious enough for some - but comfy, clean, good food and lots to do!
Staff were the epitome of customer service, couldn't fault any of them. Great room with stunning sea views.
The conservatory could do with some additional cleaning although nothing too major. Just the odd cobweb.
Gardens were very well kept, beautiful and established.
Was very dated inside. Looked tired, & old.. Needs some serious TLC. Was very expensive for what was offered. We had a room with a view of the stunning gardens, however, we had an old 'pink' yes pink bathroom suite & toilet..toilet system noisy & can be heard throughout . Needs some serous plumbing up dates. I was told they're in the process of up dating but felt this should have been reflecting in my price for room etc.. £228 for 2 nights!! Way over & above!
Location was excellent, on the cliff top over looking shanklin bay, of which we had a great view from our bedroom window. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We even managed a swim in the outdoor pool as well as the indoor one.
The beautiful view from our Executive bedroom
We had room 2 and it was a lot smaller then the other executive room no 16 where we previously stayed and the Room was noisier as next to Stairs
