Unbeatable location; 50 yards from the railway station with no road to cross, and 200 yards from the guesthouse to the pedestrianized central shopping precinct. Our twin room was small and simply furnished but comfortable, with a small but modern ensuite toilet/shower. It was all well lit too, something even 5-star hotels don't get. Friendly staff, and good towels, shower gel, tea coffee and biscuits and adequate free wifi provided. Full breakfast for a very modest supplement. View out the window of another medieval building opposite - real Shrewsbury.
The downside of the great location is the traffic noise. They have done their best with secondary glazing but rooms at the front are noisy. If you're sensitive, see if you can book the rooms at the back. If you have heavy luggage, you'll carry it up a long steep staircase to reception and another to your room. Also arrive by 7pm as it doesn't appear to be staffed after that.
You get what you pay for. Nice staff very clean very nice building
There was a night club. So if you go during weekends and your room faces the street you will hear the loud music. This probably only happens on Saturdays and Fridays and if you are planning in going out it shouldnt be a problem. We asked for a double bed and we got two single beds.
Prime location - ideal for exploring Shrewsbury
Staff, cleanliness, marvellous shower convenience to town centre, the castle, library and shops
Great position for walking to shops, restaurants and places of interest. Room small, but had all facilities. Shower and toilet very clean. Very helpful staff. Paid £3 for overnight parking, a good deal.
A little traffic noise.
Very friendly staff, great location and yummy cooked breakfast. On check-out day I could also leave my luggage to pick up during the afternoon. Highly recommend.
The historic building and comfortable room.
We used this Guesthouse for its convenience to the railway station .It is literally a stones throw away and also close enough to the town to walk to see all the sights.TIP you can get an excellent map of the town showing you all the sights from the Information centre at the railway station ( you wont get lost with it ).
We liked everything about Shrewsbury and the Lucroft Guesthouse.
The room was really nice with olde worlde features. It was spacious and comfortable enough for my needs, clean and tidy and the owner is a really friendly person. Breakfast was also spot on and the shower was great!
Wi-fi. The code didn't work and I couldn't access the internet. That said, we all live too much for the net these days. It was nice to have the night off!!!
on arrival and throughout our stay the helpfulness of staff. Location for the Buttermarket was perfect. Located on busy traffic street, but room located at back, we heard no noise from the road.
The receptionist, maybe she is the owner, was very kind with always smiling. The location is excellent, just 3-5 minutes' walk from the railway station. Additionally, local bus station is also very close and you can go to the Iron Bridge easily. You can walk around Shrewsbury on foot from the guest house.
I stayed in a loft which was enough for me. But I felt that some space in the room wasn't made use of efficiently, for example, nothing wasn't put on the space under the beam. Though nothing annoyed me.
The friendly staff were very helpful and genuinely considerate and interested in guests and in ensuring a wonderful stay. Location, price, service and fascillities were great. I would definitely stay again and have recommended the Lucroft to friends and family since my stay.
Close to town, comfy bed, clean and welcoming
Could not sign into the WIFI,
Room was clean and of a decent size for the price. I love that it's so close to the train station . Literally 5mins walk .
The narrow stairs leading to the rooms on the upper floor.
Clean, comfortable, very helpful staff. Central.
Stairs, lack of parking, more so because of the annual flower show. Very busy traffic wise outside.
It was just near the station and easy to find. I was attending the folk festival and it was very nearby. The rooms were also comfortable if modest which was all I wanted.
Just the flights of stairs where my room was. This was not a particular problem for me but in years to come it might be.
Some steep stairs but I use a stick and coped well.
The host was warm, welcoming and wanted to do all she could so that you enjoyed your stay at the guesthouse. The room was clean, bed comfortable with beautiful white embroidery anglaise linen. I requested a vegetarian breakfast and it was cooked very well. The host provided a good selection of food for breakfast and In fact after breakfast I didnt need to eat until 5.00 pm each day. The guesthouse was well situated only being minutes way from the station and the main city centre.
My room was on the front of the guesthouse and the main road was just below my window. It was an extremely busy road at all times. I asked if I could change to another room but unfortunately there was not one available. I did lose a fair amount of sleep on each evening. On Saturday evening the noise was horrendous from the traffic racing down the road, music from either a pub or a club and revellers getting in taxis and slamming the doors around 2.00 in the morning. I would stay at this guesthouse again and would recommend it to anyone but only if a room was available at the back of the property.
Nice bathroom Comfortable bed Very helpful and friendly staff Great price Good location near train station
Could hear people in the hall as they passed
the room was lovely and clean and tidy.
traffic was very noisy
A 2 minute walk from the Train and Bus station. Lovely warm welcome.Beautiful clean and fresh bedrooms / breakfast lroom
Stayed in the Lucroft for 3 nights, I had read the reviews so wasn't expecting it to have the wow factor. It wasn't the owners fault that the road noise kept us awake on each night into the early hours, Friday and Saturday being the worst (a warning about road noise should be on the website) but the secondary glazing was poor quality and broken, I felt that the room could have been cleaner. I don't expect to find black hairs and stains on the headboard, stains on the carpets too. It doesn't take much to clean stains out of items nowadays. The light shade was black from the dust. It was the only available place to stay and it was cheap, but would I choose to stay there again - Im afraid not.
Location excellent. Good breakfast and quality linen.
