The Castle, the grounds, decor and special features. Friendly, helpful reception staff. (Lady receptionist kindy offered us another room after explaining that I dont walk too well and there was no lift to the top floor) Huge cosy warm fireplaces and seating in bar area. All bedrooms different, quirky and some with secret rooms. Atmosphere lighting gave the castle corridors a spooky feel. Uneven floors, creaky floorboards and doors added to the feel of the castle. Perfect for weddings and the Murder Mystery evenings they have there. Quick and friendly check out. The very small room we were given at first on the top floor with no storage space to hang up our clothes for a wedding there the next day. No visible electrical sockets to plug in hair straighteners apart from one behind TV but no where near a mirror. Lighting in room a bit too dark to see to put on make-up. Bathroom mirror too high up on the wall to use for someone who is just a little over 5ft tall. Only one chair squeezed into room, no dressing table as room was too tiny. About a foot gap around each side of the bed to walk. (We were moved to a bigger room by the friendly lady on reception after also realising there was no lift to the top floor and I wasnt able to make the trek up the stairs to the top floor easily) Drinks were a bit pricey. Wasn't able to use the free WiFi in the bedroom at all, or in the bar or corridors as it wouldn't connect.. only in the reception area. Huge hole in the skirting board behind refreshment table! (Room 44) Rooms definitely need a little extra light for reading and for ladies to put on their make-up as the rooms are quite dark even during the day.. also needs available sockets near mirrors for hairdryers and straighteners.

Truely unique experience! Nice and clean rooms, good breakfast and dining at the black knight restaurant I can only recommend! My bedroom on itself was not very spacious however the bath room was very big (same size as bedroom).

I like the atmosphere of the delightful Lumley Castle building and it's surroundings It would have been very useful to have the use of a brolly as being caught in the rain moving to events was a little irksome

The castle and decor are beautiful, there is a relaxed atmosphere, and every single member of staff was excellent. There was one slightly noisy delivery about six thirty in the morning, although realistically this is unavoidable.

The setting and position are excellent This was my third visit and I was disappointed with the afternoon tea and the breakfast is getting smaller. The staff uniforms are not being worn as they were on my first visit 4years ago - what a shame as the magical illusion of stepping back in time is no longer there. I will not return as I do not want to see it get like any other hotel.

Everthing, the setting was Beautiful and the rooms fantastic. Staff very professional and attentive without being over bearing. Also impressed with the younger staff, who had clearly been trained very well. Reception staff EXCELLANT, even rememebered our faces and previous conversations, an attribute I find very endearing. Very attentive, friendly, professional but still very "down to earth" in the nicest sense of the word. Food and choice of food excellant. i actually could not find fault. The slight issues was my inability to master the shower setting( too hot or too cold , couldnt quite get to grips with it)

It was an experience beyond expectation considering the reasonable price. We went for a 30th wedding anniversary expecting something special and that is exactly what we got. The greeting on booking in was more than welcoming and it was a delight to be in such a lovely environment. We had a mews room and thought perhaps it would not be of such a high standard (again considering the reasonable cost). The room was delightful, the bed the most comfortable we have EVER slept in, and the chairs a delight to relax in. The bathroom was again much appreciated. We ate in the restaurant both nights and each time enjoyed a beautiful presentation and delicious array of food. The breakfast was as high a standard as the dinner. To top it all, the food was served by a lovely team of staff. Well done to all.
