The castle, which is magnificent and the location. The small bedroom and shower, the lack of bottled water within the room and a couple of other issues which might be regarded as complaints

My wife and I stayed at the hotel some 25 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it then and my wife has always been on about returning. So for her birthday 21.3.12 I decided to book a return stay. It was very good and indeed as expected. The atmosphere, comfort, room staff and meals were all excellent and I am sure we will return with my son and his family to enjoy some golf, which was not there 25 years ago. My wife found it extremely difficult to make up with the lighting available. Room 56. Perhaps some thought my go into improving this. Otherwise nothing untoward to say.

Lovely grounds, away from busy roads with no traffic noise at all. Steeped in history and gives a wonderful background to any stay. Despite staying in winter months, the rooms were warm and there was lashings of hot water. A lovely place to stay and would definitely go back The evening meals in the restaurant was a bit disappointing as a vegetarian- very limited indeed. Only ate there one night out of three as it would be a repeat of the evening before. Breakfast service for cooked foods was very slow- only asked for scrambled eggs first day ( was first to breakfast) and waited so long which was annoying as was heading off to work. I didn't have anything else cooked for the rest of my stay as I just didn't have the time to spare.

Welcoming and friendly staff. Helpful in finding me directions to my next location. It was very cold weather and they did find me an extra heater. Old fashioned decoration a bit too 'twee' for me.

It is the most fantastic hotel I ever stayed in, has all the old features of a castle but spotlessly clean and up to date. The staff were so friendly. Was at a wedding and it outdid anywhere else I have been with the brilliant way everything else was done. Would hightly recommend it and hopefully will be able to go back again. Was so much chea;per than hotels in the area too

Only stayed one night but was very impressed with the service and quality of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent and staff very attentive, I run my own hospitality business and I am considering sending some of my own staff there as a training exercise on seeing first hand how to approach and handle paying guests. I will make this the destination of my choice whenever I am in the North East.

Our stay was an absolute delight. Claire on reception was extremely professional, friendly and helpful. The room (50) was exceptional; we felt like King and Queen of Lumley. It was unique, especially the entrance to the bathroom, which was through the wardrobe door! Thanks for making our short stay a special and memorable one.

A real castle. V high ceilings, lush decor, lots of interesting objects. A vast rabbit warren. Comfortable with helpful friendly staff. This is obviously not a modern hotel, it is full of character including the odd creaky floorboard, not the most up to date plumbing. Worth it though. I would stay here again.

Lumley Castle was a wonderfully well-maintained and tastefully planned and decorated castle. Although we opted for the cheaper rooms beside the castle, we could still enjoy relaxing in one of the many castle bars, and dining in the restaurant. The only thing I did not like about Lumley Castle was the restaurant's dessert menu!

Great location and excellent restauruant Breakfast staff a bit unreliable -order of coffee and toast delivered to wrong table where it was accepted and therefore had to ask for replacement. Room was dingy but nothing can be done about that.
