Excellent service, especially in the goblets restaurant from Dave Ross. My girlfriend loved the open fires and would really like to return soon. The breakfast was excellent, my tomato was the highlight but as usual my girlfriend enjoyed the sausage most.

Friendly staff, great location. Great history, nice rooms. Spa/fitness facilities very good. Not obvious when arriving in the dark where carpark was, bit of a search. Some attention to detail lacking. Limited lunchtime menu in attached coffee shop/cafe restricted further by non-availability of choices. Not muchelse on the negative side.

We enjoyed the atmosphere of an historic building. Tv channels did not work in room and extractor in bathroom did not work. The staff did not seem too bothered about it.

Service was excellent. All the staff were attentive, helpful and well trained. Function (marriage ceremony) food was first rate. The hotel is overpriced and over-rated. At these rates it should be a memorable experience - it wasn'T. Accommodation was adequate but underwhelming as was breakfast. It is trading on its fabulous Cotswolds location but it needs to raise its game.

The staff were very attentive and couldn't do enough to help. The hotel is tired. We were looking forward to our meal in the Great Room but sadly the food was very disappointing. Our steak was tasteless and the gourmet dinner came with oil drenched onion rings. The decor in the room was very poor. Breakfast wasn't good either. The tea arrived cold. The English breakfast wasnt pleasing on the eyes and was also cold. The sausage for example had a line of congealed fat along it's edge where it had been precooked and was then warmed insufficiently to dissolve the fatty residue. The wrong food was brought to our table initially too. The room was comfortable but was let down by some minor problems (blocked sink and bath, poor water flow to bath) that really would take little effort to correct. The staff are on an up hill struggle and really deserve a medal for the excellent service they provide. Management, sort yourselves out!

The staff were excellent. The location was very central in Broadway. Car parking available across the road. We felt the hotel was trading on it's past glory. The room was in a 1960's type extension through the back of the hotel as were the majority of rooms. Very shabbily furnished and badly designed. One had to get on one's knees to access the safe and the wall plugs were underneath or behind the furniture. The bathroom had been modernised but the doorway to the bathroom was extremely narrow. The lighting in the room was very dingy and there was very limited ventilation through the restricted opening windows and no air conditioning either.I Would not like to stay there in the summer! We ate at The Swan for two evenings and recognised many of the hotel residents doing the same.

I loved the "oldie worldie" feel of the hotel and the numerous open fires which were on and on a cold, chilly day that we visited, they were most welcome!! The hotel staff were very helpful, especially when we had to change our room and we were upgraded to a suite (which was fantastic!!) The restaurant was a disappointment and wasnt what we had envisaged...we probably wouldnt eat there again if we come back to the hotel.

Location and building history Poor value for money. The worst breakfast we have had in any hotel. So consequently went elsewhere for all other meals. Bathroom fixtures not up to standard. Would not recommend.

Location, old, quaint, friendly and helpful staff. Loved that we could leave our bikes looked away. Dress code - we did not eat in the restuarant because of this. It meant that you missed out on 3 evening meals and wine. We had envisaged a relaxing stay in the country and were suprised that smart jeans were not allowed. It is an old hotel that looks like it battles to keep traditional standards for its more elderly clients.

A wonderful chillout experience (sadly only one night) which although slightly marred by the reduced service at breakfast, we would stay there again. Definately one for the memory banks as a lovely comfortable trip back in time, historically. Thank heavens someone had the presence of mind to preserve such a quaint, historical and beautiful building in an outstanding countryside location. Don't miss an opportunity to stay here. Nothing that really mattered or was not resolvable.

Beautiful building and smell of the log fires We have stayed a few times atthe Lygon over the last few years and this time we were just a little disappointed as you can see cost cuts from being within a chain. It just doesn't have the exclusivity that it used to or that lovely feeling of being somewhere special anymore. Spa and pool area, very dated and dirty looking.

Good Location, lovely village. Bed was very comfy, Staff very pleasant and helpful. Only thing I was disappointed in was that the leisure facilities had seperate male/female saunas and yet a joint steam room, would of preferred joint sauna too, and would of spent longer there if that was the case. Also jacuzzi was not working which was a little disappointing. Also we were in the new part and the view was of a roof, which had a constant whirring underneath. If I stayed there again I would make a point of insisting on a room in the original part of the hotel. Was surprised that there was no "information" data in the room other than a room service menu,

Staff were excellent...my room was changed to an old room as soon as I requested it, but I had done so earlier by e mail .....room 45 was perfect having come from australia and my wife was delighted, the italian maitre d was very friendly and ran a good crew ...breakfast was superb but the service was manic / as in lots of movement sunday morning.....staff can slow down but it was a full house to serve. both of the english porters were excellent and all of the spanish and italian staff were friendly and delighted we could speak spanish . check in was smooth, cars and luggage were parked and delivered...all good. Some of the gym kit is broken in the gym.....local members complaining in the pool. we brought a group in for sunday lunch......beef was tough as old boots and a reduction was made on the bill..that was disappointing.....locals think the food is not good, and sunday beef played into that view, but breakfast was superb .

“For a french woman as me, a great lover of british style, iLower brook hotel is the best choice. A cute village in the Costwolds, a lovely house with british style, a discret but efficiency staff. The food is good (I loved the scrumbled eggs with organic salmon at breakfast). The room very comfortable (tea, cofee, cookies and apple, a gown and many other nice things). And the prices low for the quality.” Pierre, London |
