The name Lyonesse comes from the Cornish and Arthurian legends, which tell of a mystic island off Land’s End that sank into the sea in a similar vein to Atlantis.

The guest house is family run and the owners are passionate about making the property as environmentally friendly as possible. For example, the Lyonesse is committed to the use of green cleaning products and reduced-energy light bulbs. Recycled materials are used whenever practical and rubbish is recycled wherever possible. Guests are encouraged to do the same during their stay.

The owners also strongly believe in sourcing local and organic food products whenever possible, and use Fair Trade tea and coffee.

The guest house has signed up to a green energy tariff for environmentally friendly electricity. The Lyonesse has also received the Silver Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
