Score from 269 reviews Wonderful 9/10
The hotel is in a fantastic location, overlooking Ullswater Lake, the rooms are large and comfortable, the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was excellent.
The non-availability of Wi-Fi unless you are a BT customer was irritating for a hotel of this standard. The check-in was rather slow but that is being picky.
We loved it. Only stayed for one night but would loved to have stayed longer. The staff were exceptional especially in the restaurant. Thanks to you all.
Lovely accommodation, clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful - Especially Kate!
We got a good deal on the price but otherwise would have been very expensive!
The Dining Room
Our sleep disturbed by noisy neighbours
I visited this hotel 40 years ago and it is still as comfortable with great service, excellent food and a wonderful view of Ullswater.
The quietness of the location. Excellent breakfast. The staff were well trained and couldn't do enough for their guests.
No prices on the menu so when you signed for the meal you had no idea what you signed for - strange!! The room was starting to look 'tired' - the curtains were falling apart.
Staff very helpful and very good service with good etc Breakfast excellent Views excellent
Room 18 lovely room but would not stay in that one again as rather dark and could not have any fresh air at night as there was on French doors.
Lack of free wi fi
The hotel is situated in a beautiful part of Cumbria with lovely grounds. A lovely break we hope to repeat in the near future.
Nothing to dislike
Lovely soft pillows , room a good size .
Phone reception poor and altho Booking.com said I would get free wi-fi , the hotel disagreed and if I wanted connection I would have to pay. So something for Booking.com to sort out with Hotel.
The ambience of the hotel. The grounds and wonderful views across Ullswater. A very comfortable bed
Can't think of anything..
Style , location, rooms to sit and read etc. Gardens and view of lake.
Gravel drive. Garden furniture looking tired.
Beautiful location, lovely room, great food, great service
Beautiful and had the most awesome solstice break
Was very disappointed with the price of wine ..... Paying £26 when the wine was only £7 little bit over priced
Fabulous views and a peaceful tranquil loction
Beautiful location, great staff, fabulous breakfast( good choice)
No wifi ,which was advertised in brochure and online, very expensive restaurant.
Wi-Fi charge is a pure rip-off. Also the room rate was very expensive even for the location.
The staff were all friendly and welcoming. The beds were very comfortable and the food was excellent. Loved the stunning view of the lake and mountains from lounge and dining room windows.
WiFi is not free as advertised. You have to buy vouchers for BT .
Location, scenery, comfort, dog-friendly.
Lack of vegetarian options.
Having our own private balcony Nice and quiet Views were to die for Food was excellent and staff very courteous Conservatory and lounge rooms superb
The staff made every effort to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The food and drinks, whilst pricey, were good quality. Book this for a break and you will not be disappointed.
Very friendly attentive staff, made everything easy and a pleasure. The location is stunning based on the lake with some great walks around.
Food is a bit expensive, but that is probably down to the only place in the area where you can get something without having to drive for miles
