The bedroom was comfortable and the accommodation spacious with a separate sitting area which was unexpected. The breakfast was good too. It was good value for money. We had an attentive and friendly welcome.
The sitting room area of our room was in need of redecoration but I am sure the management is very aware of this.
The room was nice and the breakfast was lovely
the fact that when the fire alarm went off staff did nothing. Obviously if this was a real fire visitors would have been in trouble. We had evacuated but no one said anything when we got out as all staff were still inside. Just glad we were dressed
breakfast was very good, beds linen and towels were exellent
the sash window was broken, and needed a piece of wood to hold it open, carpet were shaby, the paint work throughout is in need of attention, overall the hotel was looking very tired
Friendly staff, great value for money Near Alton Towers.
If I did have some criticism it would be it could do with a bit of TLC
It stands in lovely grounds which are well maintained
The fusty smell in the room and things that were not finished properly needs a revamp
Staff Food Cost
Comfort in restaurant area. Seat are more then threadbare; foam is visible! Generally jaded and in need of desperate refurbishment.
Nice relaxed atmosphere food very good and very reasonable and the room was very comfortable Local to Derby and lots of nice towns and villages.
Centrally located hotel - rooms large and the breakfasts are very good - the service throughout is good the staff very friendly and helpful
the hotel is obviously an old hotel and some of the facilities have seen better days it really needs a total refurb - but having said that its quite cheap to stay here the beds were clean and comfortable but peeling paint everywhere gives a bad impression also most of the sanitary wear in the bathroom was falling off the wall and the shower head blocked so a trickle of water came out we only stayed 3 nights so put up with it.
Everything else! Think the crumbling conservatory you have to walk through as you enter the foisty smelling pub/hotel speaks for itself!! The Hygiene Rating of 2 displayed in the window as you enter also explains a lot! A very sorry for itself place that needs an overhaul from top to bottom!! I would have still been disappointed if they'd let us stay there for free!! Just awful!
Room cleanliness food location friendly service
Everything exceeded expectations. Good clean facilities with friendly and helpful staff. Excellent Breakfast included. Evening Meal was also very reasonable. Highly recommended and Extremely good value for money.
This hotel was excellent value for money for a family of four. A lovely spacious twin room for my older children & a cozy double for myself & husband. The grounds were lovely, the staff were excellent. Good selection for evening meals & a good breakfast. We would definitely stay here again.
Decor a bit tired in the hall and up the stairs to the accommodation.
Staff were excellent....couldn't do enough for you.
Not really a dislike just an observation. Our room was in need of a update as damage to ceiling had been temporarily repaired, flooring in bathroom was coming away and a lick of paint might have helped a little
The hotel was easy to find and in an excellent location. The staff were very welcoming upon arrival. The good was really good with a selection for all tastes. The only thing I would say is to change the carpet to reflect the modernisation to the rooms.
The carpet is very dated.
Beds poor, need upgrading. Hotel needs a facelift.
Very polite staff. Went out of their way to help me. I was staying at the hotel to attend a wedding that was close by. They were very helpful and provided me with directions etc. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Wi-Fi in the hotel was excellent very fast indeed. Lovely garden. I asked them for some paper and a pencil so that I might take some notes on the local church and they were only too happy to help. I enjoyed the carvery on both Saturday and Sunday for lunch as it was delicious and Incredibly good value.
I liked the location The restaurant food Drinks bar Clean toilet and bath
The double bed was small the room was a bit small aswel, the both outside and in the room wasn't clean mainly concerned with the room carpet that needs changing , changing the bed covers would make a lot difference and finally there were no chanels coming on TV.
Great welcome, friendly staff. Good food.
Needs a bit of TLC, painting and updating. Wi fi hit and miss.
The hotel is very tired and in need of a refurbishnent. The doorway to the staircase to the rooms was filthy, the carpet hadn't been vacuumed for months and the white gloss bannister was black and filthy you didn’t want to touch it. Our room had plaster flaking off the wall, damp patch and heavy scuff marks on the walls. Bedside lights hanging off, curtains ripped and dirty finger marks on the windows and splash marks on the mirror. In the bathroom the flooring was peeling away and the shower tray and door were filthy. Breakfast- the waitress could have been civil and greeted her customers. If the breakfast had been more self serve her job would have been easier. I am an ex hotel manager and would be ashamed to read this review so I hope someone takes notice of my comments.
We had my husbands 40th party there and had our wedding there 7 years ago we like the friendly management team they are so helpful and go out there way to sort everything out for you. The function room was perfect and the bedrooms was comfy and clean.
Waitress at breakfast very grumpy and seemed put out even though she was prewarned there was 9 of us for breakfast. Bedrooms a little bit too warm.
freindly staff, nice size room, excellent breakfast and evening meal, nothing was too much trouble for the staff very accomodating half an hour from alton towers
Spacious room with lovely views. helpful and friendly staff.
Hotel cleanliness and food
Hotel was very dirty. Public areas were thick with dust on skirting boards, dado rails, window sills and picture frames. Cobwebs also featured heavily. Bedroom was slightly better, however...smell in en suite bathroom, towel rail and bin covered with very old water stains. Multiple light bulbs didn't work, light switches missing or broken. Stains on carpet, curtains also stained and ripped, hanging off rail. Although advertised, no wifi available.
The staff were polite and the hotel close to Derby
The hotel was very dated and could do with a referbishment
Rooms were comfortable and breakfast was very good. Staff pleasant and helpful. Parking excellent, less than 30 min to Alton Towers which was our reason for staying.
The place needs a good clean. I wouldn't say it was unhygienic as toilets, sinks, baths, showers etc were ok but the carpets on the stairs and corridors were always covered in 'bits' and the dust in places was crying out for someone to come along with a duster!
