Maitlandfield House Hotel24 Sidegate, EH41 4BZ Haddington (Show map) Good, Score from 31 reviews“We were attending a wedding and were recommended to Maitlandfield House by Mother of the Bride. We found the hotel to be ideal for location, bed and breakfast and very near to Haddington town centre. We enjoyed our stay very much,”
Alistair,
Glasgow
Within walking distance of picturesque Haddington and just 16 miles from Edinburgh, Maitlandfield House boasts quality, efficiency, traditional charm and original elegance. The elegant and historic townhouse has a quiet, peaceful location. It is within easy reach of route A1, which offers fast, convenient access to central Edinburgh. The hotel’s new Brasserie restaurant serves modern Scottish cuisine, prepared using locally sourced ingredients. With a stylish yet informal environment, the Brasserie offers an interesting selection of individual dishes and fixed priced meals, together with a balanced and well-priced wine list. The Brasserie was commended by the East Lothian Food and Drink festival in 2007 and again in 2008. Hotel Rooms: 25

The hotel was well run and obviously had a regular local clientel trade and steady guest attendance at an usually low time of the year which speaks volumes for the service and presentation.

Very relaxed atmosphere and good food. If you were on tight time schedule, this hotel would not be for you! Also if they cleaned bedroom windows, room cleanliness would go up to good/excellent not just fair.

I was brought up in Haddington and left some 50 years ago and had knowledge of what was on offer. An excellent place to meet with old relatives and friends for a drink and/or a meal. The staff were extremely helpful with a special mention regarding Fiona who was the complete professional. Will advise my friends here in Australia who may visit Edinburgh that a visit to Maitlandfield should not be missed!

The staff were very helpful and service was excellent. Ideal for wedding venue as St Marys church was nearby and loads of pubs to hide away. Lennoxlove is just up the road where our wedding celebrations were and the setting was perfect. Lots of history surround the area so very enjoyable if your interest lie in that direction. Hotel breakfast was very nice and great place for families to gather and plan. A very relaxing lounge afforded a meeting point before and after events with an adequate bar. A refurbishment may be required to bring it up to date.

Very friendly staff and a comfortable room. They adjusted to our change of plans during our stay, with help and consideration. The bathroom could do with a few flat surfaces to put toiletries on.

It was nice, friendly and quiet. At Sunday you have only a little menu for dinner. You have no choice for others.

Staff were very friendly, good breakfast. Very good location close to the town. Tiny room needs refurbishing, lumpy mattress on bed, would be much more comfortable with a good mattress cover. Shower would not switch off so room became unbearably hot. Evening meal was spoilt with frozen fries, they would do better promoting more local foods. Steak pie was excellent though. Dessert was tinned fruits when local strawberries and raspberries are in season it doesn't make sense not to use them.

This was by far the most agreeable hotel in which I have stayed over the past two weeks touring in UK. The hotel is spotless, and friendly, in a well groomed garden setting and in a convenient location. Dining is excellent, and the included breakfast wholesome Internet was available in only the public rooms. The floors creak which might disturb other guests

Location is excellent - near to North Berwick and East lothian coast. Goos places of interest eg East Fortune Aircraft Museum with concord experience which is excellent - very interesting ( I am a female 50 years old - so if I like it - anyone should!) Enjoyed breakfast which is buffet style - but all food tasty and not greasy. 1- Hotel has been decorated since our last stay 5 years ago - but is still shows lots of wear and tear in places. Our room had a large pine 4 poster bed - which creaked and grunted with every movement! 2- The bedroom furniture was very dated and marked and the bedspread had a large rip in it.3- We were in the old part of hotel - above reception and was very noisy until 1am due to large party of guests at reception. 4- breakfast could be improved by not serving tea and toast until the start of eating - and not running out of marmalade! 5- overall not good value at £100 per night - I would expect a higher standard of furnishings, but it wouldnt take much to upgrade this hotel.

The Staff were extremely polite and helpful and the food was excellent. The Lounge and Bar areas were comfortable and suitable for our needs. We had an enjoyable stay although it was spoilt somewhat due to the smallness of the bedrooms. The two rooms we occupied were very small, and the views out of the windows were non-existant due the rooms being above the Brasserie and Bar areas. We could only see the roof of these buildings. This, in my opinion, spoilt our stay. The front facade of the building looked 'tired' and was not a true reflection of the photo' on the website.

The food was excellent The standard rooms were very basic and cramped. The rooms badly needed redecorating. They looked like they should be smoking rooms!

Quiet location within easy reach of the town centre and local sights. It took time to master locking the door to our room with the key and we had to enlist the help of the person on the reception desk twice. It appeared to be a faulty lock.
