An attractive building and location, good size room with sofa, friendly staff. As Makeney Hall is a four-star hotel I was surprised about the following: only one bath towel and one hand towel for two people; no shampoo or bath/shower gel; the double bed was small and dipped in the middle. Also I was surprised that when we had finished dinner and had added a gratuity to the bill, a waitress came running after us to say she would see none of the tip unless it was paid in cash. I did revise the bill and paid her a cash tip but this was embarrassing and could have been avoided.

Excellent location and very convenient for our purposes. some facilities a little dated e.g. shower ( nonetheless it worked well enough ) -- no light over wash-handbasin mirror.

We stayed at the Makeney Hall Hotel to attend a wedding. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Questions we asked after we had booked were answered and all adhered to when we arrived. Our family room was comfortable and clean. It was a joy to stay in the hotel. Excellent place for a wedding too!

Lovely big room with comfortable big bed We thought the large stained area of wallpaper (close to the window facing the door) was off-putting and ruined what would have otherwise been a lovely room. Our main complaint was the breakfasts. My husband chose the full-english both mornings and was unhappy about the meagre amount of food on the plate. On the first morning I chose 2 poached eggs on toast - which arrived dry! (I prefer butter spread on the toast before the eggs are placed on it) and on the 2nd morning I chose scrambled egg on toast (which was not on the toast but on a cold plate with a round of dry toast beside it. It was disgusting! Tasteless, colourless, almost cold and not made with fresh eggs!

The atmosphere and location was excellent......the staff extremely pleasant and helpful.....even the housekeeping staff most helpful....nothing too much trouble. The smell of burning wood was also lovely and the fireplaces and fires are glorious. The wedding food was top notch and excellent.......but found the food at breakfast ...mainly the scrambled eggs was below par....too creamy...and no choice of eggs....?fried/poached....the room also requires updating but still in victorian theme....ie ....room felt really old and dowdy with lovely tv put on an old filing cabinet....carpet old.....? Bathroom had paint coming off in various places.. But would not stop me staying there again mind!

Our room was enormous!!! The bed very comfy There wasn't a spare toilet roll. Also I called in the morning and was told by a gentleman that we wouldn't need to pre-order a taxi to take us to the wedding we were attending as there were lots in the area. However, on arrival we were told by Laura that there were only 2 taxi companies and that they were very busy. She managed to get us one but because of this we very nearly missed the wedding ceremony at Blackbrook House.
