Bedroom too hot
overall ambiance polite staff great value
Nothing came to mind
The room and bathroom were beautifully fitted and extremely clean.
I would have liked hot water in the morning and to have heating in the bathroom.
The room was large, comfortable and very clean with a well-equipped ensuite. The hotel was near relatives in Belper and we were able to take our dog with us. Loved the breakfast and views on Boxing Day morning!
Very good about pets
No hot water in shower for duration of stay - 3 days Room cold during day
The hotel is in a nice setting close to the A6.
Our courtyard room had very poor wifi reception, practically negligible, the heating did not work in the bathroom and was therefore extremely cold. The mixer tap on the shower was not functioning properly and therefore the water was at best tepid. The room was ground floor but next to the stairwell and this proved to be a noisy experience with people coming and going. Bar service was poor, empty glasses and plates were not collected at all during the time we were there (over an hour).
Would have preferred a little music, very quiet and empty
Cost of food
The value for money. Couldn't beleive what the size of the room it was a suite!!!
Bit tatty round the edges but this added to the charm. Took ages to get someone to serve at the bar
Makeney Hall Hotel is a beautiful hotel to stay in. The staff are very helpful and pleasant. The only niggle is the chef seems to LOVE black pepper! Hahahahahaha! Lovely place, we have stayed here 3 times so far and we WILL be back!
Chef put far too much black pepper in everything! My vegetarian risotto was really peppery as was the beef my husband had.
Breakfast good but expencive
Grubby room Stuck in lift, no response from staff!! Generally run down and in need of a facelift
The facilities were excellent, staff were very kind and obliging. The room was lovely and well kept with plenty of amenities. The food was exquisite and by far the best thing I've eaten in a LONG time.
Only a personal gripe but the bed was way to warm for me. Anyone liking low tog bedding, bring some clothes and sleep on top :). The room we had was in a far corner of the building and the free WiFi was almost non existent. But neither were deal breakers.
The bedroom was clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was very tasty. The staff were very polite.
Would have liked to be given more information about the facilities, dining times etc, but was left to find this out myself. We stayed in our room all evening as not sure what was available. The afternoon tea was a let down, I.e staff got my dietary requirements wrong and the scones were awful. The bath surround was cracked and this let the room down. The view from our window was over the roof of the building.
This is a perfect places to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside. The afternoon tea was a lovely combination of sandwiches and cakes. The bedroom was warm, elegant and clean, we slept very well. Breakfast in the conservatory was substantial and set us up for a day out in the country. The staff were very helpful , friendly and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay.
The area is lovely and location is near my parents and family
Shabby interiors and poor service and value for money, especially as we had booked a family Xmas meal at great expense. Very disappointed at what we got for a "4 star " stay. Will not be staying there again or recommending it.
we arrived late as expected and were well received and had very good rooms which were warm and clean, very welcome for a cold December night. Good breakfast and overall good valuye for money.
We weren't given the accommodation we requested/ordered so my wife had difficulties climbing up step to room.
The space in our bedroom
Very friendly helpful staff, good food, great location, very peaceful and scenic, good value for money. Made to feel very welcome and the overall atmosphere in the place was relaxing and comfortable.
Room a little tired, a couple of the bathroom fixtures and fittings in need of attention.
historic building free wi-fi
old carpets in the canteen overgrown bushes in the parking area
I was looking for a last minute deal and was amazed to find this hotel had rooms available at an excellent price. The lady on reception was brilliant talking me through the final but of navigation when the sat nav led me astray. Fantastic light supper available. All in all brilliant.
the breakfast although when we have stayed previously we had a breakfast menu which I prefer to a buffet one.
There was no hot water The room was cold as there wasn't any central heating on We were told the boiler was off we were not offered a heater for the room as other guests were
the quiet location and the cleanliness of all parts. Helpful staff. Excellent breakfast.
Meal was excellent, fresh produce stands out a mile. compliments to the chef.
shower curtain over the bath was inadequate. Draw front on the side table where the drinking facilities were located fell off. This was reported at check out. Otherwise our stay was excellent, thank you to all.
Lovely "character" room ( a little but tired maybe but added to the charm of this lovely old house!)
Would have loved Spa facilities! Also drinks prices are very steep
