Excellent hotel. Good location for visiting Britannia. Otherwise the area is a little run down, betraying it's history as a dock and port. However a really good hotel with very good service and restaurant.

The staff at the Malmaison in Leith is terrible. Very inattentive, no follow through and a general lack of interest in their customers. I would rank the hotel very low on customer service and help.

We upgraded and consequentially, had a spacious and comfortable room. Large en-suite and plenty of seating. The staff, mainly young, were friendly and helpful. We found the lighting inadequate and would have a main brighter light.

The only critisism that I had was we had a lovely evening dinner booked which we enjoyed. Unfortunatly a family with very young children were also dining and the children were shouting and running all over the place. I appreciate this is not your fault but that of parents who cannot control thier children. I would have preferred no under 16 after 7pm - but thats just me. Meal was lovely.

We were able to take a room which permitted a dog and were provided with dog basket and drinking bowl. Much appreciated as cold night to leave her in the car. Very friendly reception staff. Had a very long wait for breakfast and seemed quite disorganised.

I have just returned from a two night stay at the Malmaison in Edinburgh, I booked this as a surprise for my boyfriends birthday and have been looking forward to it for months. I was disappointed is an understatement. From our arrival at the hotel, we were treat like second class citizens, apparently we were not good enough to stay at this hotel. Prior to my arrival I contacted the hotel to ask as to whether I could arrange for something to be in the room, like chocolates or champagne, the receptionist said she would email me the options, but never did. The first morning at breakfast other guests were shown to tables and we were just left standing and eventually had to locate somewhere to sit ourselves. We requested two pots of tea, the waiter then proceeded to take one pot of tea that had been left by another guest and was cold and gave it to us. That evening we went to the restaurant where we had previously made a reservation, we were abruptly sat down and then proceeded to watch other guests and non guests who had made no reservation be given the opportunity to choose where they were sat, if they wanted a window seat, we however were not given any such choice. When the waiter asked what we would like to drink, we asked for two bottles of cider, her disdain was obvious as she commented 'no wine' in a sarcastic tone and proceeded to whisper it to another member of staff, making us even more uncomfortable. This was meant to be a nice, romantic weekend away and your staff totally ruined it for us, we paid £300, not including the meal and we will never be staying at your hotels and will not be recommending them. On checking out, my boyfriend expressed his concerns to the receptionist who gave a rehearsed response, and didn't seem to care that we had had an awful experience. We might only be in our early 20's but surely our money is as good as anybody else's we are after all the guest of the future of this hotel , or should I say would have been.

Nice, relaxed atmosphere in lounge area. Very tasty breakfast & efficient dining staff. My husband & I had a very rude awakening at 06.00hrs due to guests in adjoining room having several shouting, noisy outbursts & arguments. We were both very upset & disturbed by this behaviour & it spoiled an otherwise perfect stay. On checking out we discussed above incident with receptionist - who apologised. However we both found this unacceptable as apologies do not make up for lost sleep!

The location was stunning, staff incredibly friendly and very helpful & informative. Breakfast and service was first class. Loved the room we were allocated. The snooty pair of old bags at the table next to us at breakfast who talked down to the lovely & friendly girl who was serving in loud yarking tones like a pair of Yorkshire terriers. Pity they did'nt come with a mute switch and a humour transplant! There is no need for such rudeness especially when the waitress was so professional.

We dined in our room and the room service menu had a wide range of choices including ordering from the main restaurant. Staff was excellent and very helpful at all times. The room that we stayed in was beginning to show signs of wear. Bathroom in need of facelift.
