The bed was a bit hard
Location Beautiful room Very very helpful staff
No complimentary still water Quilt too heavy with no sheet and the room was very warm Unable to reduce the temperature of the room with air conditioning and no opening windows Needs a litte more lighting in the room
No internet access
Romantic building with luxury facilities Central location Good food Great staff Very clean
No spa Tricky to find some bits of it Main bar wasn't open until about 4:00pm
The building and rooms are fascinating, the service is terrific. A great location. A really good stay.
Staff really were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. Location was far more central than we thought, easy walking distant to almost everywhere
Restaurant / brasserie - again the environment & the staff were exceptional, however the food was mediocre.
Poor parking facilities
The venue and restaurants were great. Room and bath were very nice.
Bed was really hard, I had really tough time trying to fall asleep
Location and character property. Valet car parking worked very well, reception team in General were excellent. Bedroom facilities were good and breakfast menu had a good selection & was good quality.
Rooftop bar service was poor, drinks selection in that bar was also poor for a premiem hotel. Breakfast staff were laying up tables for lunch without wiping crumbs off them first! (They were very obvious too.....not just a few). This was a big surprise and illustrated poor training.
Staff whiteout the `feeling welcome`factor. NO Windows to open in the room, so only mechanical ventilation which blow all night into your face when sleeping ! Awful!! Breakfast, it runs out for everything.... Please choose for `The pride of Britain hotels` instead this hotel !
The conversion is beautiful and very dramatic.I particularly like the central corridor, which is well converted and lit. Fascinating history.
The roof top bar is small. The bedroom was stuffy without the airconditioning but at times too cool with the aircon.
How we were met and arrangements to park & deliver my car as required. The upgraded room was lovely
Excellent welcoming service - eager to go the extra i.e. a surprise or treat for a birthday to make the occasion extra special. - Romantic trip away - amazing atmosphere and ambience -gorgeous conversion - the epitomy of luxury. -restaurant was top notch with good quality food (big portions!!) and excellent cocktail bar.
- more lighting in the rooms as an option - could be quite dim (minor problem)
Good location, interesting building
The room above the restaurants was very noisy.
The fact that is use to be a prison and now top class hotel!
Enjoyed the tour of Oxford Castle
The high cost of parking
Over priced. Poor ventilation. Air conditioning was not functioning properly. The restaurant below our room was noisy.
ambiance and the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff.
We loved the whole stay couldn't fault a thing cell room was fab , loved dinner and the room service breakfast
nice room large bathroom huge bathtub
overnight parking was $40
Central Oxford location Secure valet parking
Poor Wi-Fi quality (too slow) Expensive parking (even if it was good) Check in environment - too noisy
Lived up to expectations. Ate in the restaurant in the evening and steak was excellent and the Mal burgers looked impressive. Would return.
Breakfast was a shambles. It seemed a wedding party from the night before had caught them off guard. Although food again was excellent it wss spoilt by the front of house staff loosing orders, waiting ages to be served yet all running around the restaurant like headless chickens. Other than that a great stay.
The hotel itself was great, the location perfect and the food and drinks good. Room size was okay, bed was hard as mentioned in other reviews but didn't really factor.
Every time we interacted with front of house they referred to us as mr & mrs when neither of us had rings on (and as the first time away as a couple was a little bit awkward!) and when we checked in and then checked out the cost was overtly mentioned. In my experience it's normally dealt with far more discretely, when you're treating someone the last thing you want is for them to hear how much it costs!
staff , rooms and location all good.
continental breakfast really good. Big Mal breakfast could be better. Eggs nicely cooked but cold. Black pudding barely cooked.Tomatoe would be better cooked not raw.Homemade Granola excellent.
