Location. Décor. Tasteful way the building had been adapted to a modern hotel. Room was very quiet. Pleasant view
heating not working properly so room was cold. They did try to fix but could not - were given a portable radiator to provide heat for the room.Room fairly small.
The decor - the prison theme (it WAS a prison) was ever present without being too in your face. The room was extremely comfortable - for a cell. The bed was one of the best I have ever slept in.
There was not enough light in the cells - sorry, rooms. The hotel was fairly expensive, though not overly so for Oxford, but parking was exorbitant and ought to be free for guests.
The breakfast is very poor
Like the way the hotel has been converted from a prison and it has maintained some of its characteristics.
The reception area is too dark and needs to be more well lit and inviting.
A great location and not your standard hotel. Service was great
Parking charges are quite high, but all of Oxford is too
Location was very good and staff were helpful
Very disappointed with the noise levels of the dust bin men outside early in the morning, was looking forward to a nice relaxing trip however was ruined by lack of sleep.
Everything, especially the under floor heating in the bathroom!
The service in the bar was a little slow.
The aspect and location of the hotel was superb! The décor of the hotel was stunning and the rooms very well appointed!
Service at breakfast was a lttle sloppy!
Location , very interesting hotel and one thing I can said about this hotel staffs very helpful and friendly I will return
The many architectural and textual reminders that this had once been a prison.
Location is good and the grounds are nice.
We paid 295 GBP for a double room. Too expensive for what they provide. Not even a bottle of water. The bed was quite hard. They don't have any business room for customers to take printouts, surf or scan documents. They need to reconsider their prices.
- Location! Great. - Bath products - Nice collection of coffee and tea in the room. - Very friendly staff
- Hard Bed - No window to open in the (bath)room - Took me 13min to get the water to the right temp. for a shower - Breakfast too expensive for what you get
Beautiful building (despite its history). Comfortable, clean room. Breakfast (I like my hot food to be very hot - it wasn't, but that's personal preference!). Friendly staff.
Lighting in the room was very poor. Room too hot. Although bed was very firm, I still slept well. Over priced mini bar. Tables at breakfast weren't cleared but the food was delicious.
The room was lovely and spotlessly clean. Hotel full of character and reception staff very helpful
Breakfast was very badly run and the tables were not cleared very regularly. The food was not topped up very quickly and no one seemed to know what was happening - it spoilt the hotel experience
Service is friendly and efficient and public spaces are well-designed and uniquely laid out. Rooms are spacious and well appointed.
In keeping w/the penal theme, the rooms are not well-lit. As a result, it is very difficult to dry one's hair or put on make-up w/adequate lighting---a bit cruel for women, I'm afraid. Also, the sinks are quite flat, and don't drain well, leaving visible scum unless rinsed extensively.
A calm place to spend a few nights at Oxford. Very clean. Decent food.
Cheeky and impolite receptionists. They often forget what the guest ordered.
Too hot in the rooms and bar staff not friendly and not attentetive to the guests needs or proactive in taking care of guests spending a lot of money to be there!
The hotel was full of character as well as being beautiful and in an excellent location. The staff were always happy to help and seemed to love their job.
The bed was quite hard!
Interesting building well converted
Comfort, cleanliness, location
Breakfast was too"poor": only one kind of bread, no natural fruit juice alternative for whom (as myself) who doesn't like the 2 kind available and the coffee was terrible. So, the quality/price isn't fair at all!
Brilliant central location in this funky, converted clink. Friendly staff and slept the sleep of the just ( as you'd expect from being given a room in the governors' quarters! )
Furnishings a bit tatty round the edges and the corridor outside our room was cluttered up with spare furniture. Outrageous prices for items in the mini bar and the room rate was rather excessive; not including breakfast in the rate was unforgivably cheeky.
room - couldn't be any smaller, tiny wardrobe, impossible to store 2 bags, only 1 chair, small bed ghastly place to eat - the Slug & Lettuce, well named why did room rate jump by Pd100 from 1st night to 2nd?
The bed was a bit hard
Nice large room. Unique location. Lots of eating and drinking options outside of hotel. Staff helpful.
The fact that the roof bar was shut on one of the warmest days! Restaurant very basic. No atmosphere - Went out to eat. Valet parking very expensive! No newspaper delivery as ordered! Stayed before and it was MUCH better!
Location Beautiful room Very very helpful staff
No complimentary still water Quilt too heavy with no sheet and the room was very warm Unable to reduce the temperature of the room with air conditioning and no opening windows Needs a litte more lighting in the room
