Beautiful renovation Nice room and facilities
Poor staff training and systems Service doesn't live up to the fabulous building and location
The overall hotel is quirky, staff were helpful Liked the cell rooms Good for shopping
Not enough light in rooms to get ready we had a queen cell And no extractor in bathroom so very steamy which also ment couldnt use mirrors in bathroom for a while No information about the hotels past in your room that would have been good also couldnt find the original cell to look at Parking is expensive either at the hotel or local carpark
The ambience, the location, the physical plant, the bar and dining room, the history.
The room was too dark. It needs better lighting especially by the chair for reading. The bathroom needs some kind of shelf on the wall by the sink to hold toiletries. It was very hard for 2 people to operate without proximate sink storage at eye level.
Efficient check-in, valet parking, comfortable room, good location for central oxford, atmospheric hotel. Breakfast good but not outstanding.
We had a problem with hit water in the bathroom- at first the shower was barely warm even on 'full heat', and after a visit from maintenance team it was scalding hot and couldn't be cooled. Also, hot water came from both taps on the sink. The hotel were unable to fix the problem.
friendly helpful staff interesting setting and great proximity to centre good restaurant and bar.
Room service breakfast cleanness
Breakfast was excellent
The bathroom was tired looking and not the cleanest otherwise all was good.
Everything, the staff, the room, the hotel generally - all very Good! People complain about lighting but it felt 'right' for place and was really homely .....
Unconventional rooms Dark/ Cold Staff impolite
The atmosphere; the quite unique environment; the enthusiasm of the staff; the location - My wife says she enjoyed just everything about it,including being in a Victorian prison, which was a surprise that I sprung on her. - We will stay again!
Poor lighting in bedroom (which I know is done to help make the atmosphere creepy). It was almost impossible to read a book or newspaper. The mattress was a bit firm and we both hate duvets. The restaurant and reception areas were very noisy.
Great location and very quirky venue. Very good standard of decor and excellently presented. Very welcoming reception. Standard room very spacious.
Very small bar area and as there were a couple of large Xmas parties we couldn't get booked in the bistro for food. The bar staff were very very busy and despite sitting at the bar we had to ask after 15 mins if we could be served. Service at Breakfast was also very slow and confused, although food delicious. A fun one-off experience but very overpriced.
Amazing setting, the prison and grounds are fantastic Wonderful renovation of main prison giving you comfortable rooms but maintaining an image of what it was once like Very central location for town and other bars etc Valet Parking (need to pay though)
Drinks prices are very high The parking was not available on booking.com, I called directly and it was explained that you had to book it.
Atmosphere, ambience, mostly experienced, pouted staff. Nice clean and tidy rooms.
Barman was new and it took 15 minutes to do 4 drinks. Asked for 2 single whiskies with ice, he poured 2 doubles, reminded him we wanted singles, tried to pour one of the doubles back into measure and then half the other 1 between the 2 glasses plus tried to charge us £28.50 to park car!
Poor lighting in room
Great theme - really liked the old Prison concept, was really interesting
Took hours to find, Sat Nav kept telling us to walk to it as it was in a pedestrian area, and staff on the phone were no help at all, no map to help find it and no signs on the road. Ended up parking in a car park and walking with our luggage
nothing , only going home!
Within 10mins gentle walk from train station. Check out at midday. Friendly check in/out staff. Central location in Oxford. Lovely lights around the Malmasion Hotel, especially as we walked each evening to and from Malmasion, romantic lovely.
We didnt like the air con, we had to switch it off at night, even from air flow 1 position, as we could feel the breeze alternating which felt very uncomfortable. So we slept with air con off and had to have the the large patio door/window open at least a quarter of a full open (i.e. 45degrees)(needed to do this as the room was stuffy otherwise). This was much better, although we were woken a few times by street noises. Also not keen on the pork and leek breakfast sausage, please just a plain pork sausage. salami for contential breakfast did not like the taste of, and we usually love salami. Sorry also not keen on your coffee
We loved the location and the amazing transformation from prison to hotel. The rooms were very well fitted and very clean.
The ridiculous parking charges.the extra charge for full English breakfast. The staff not very friendly. Poor lighting in the rooms.
Set up of the hotel.
Waiting for staff, several times I was stood at the bar whilst waiters stared at the screen or spoke to each other without acknowledging me, or saying they will be with me shortly. Malmaison also added drinks I didn't drink to my invoice.
Great conversion from Gaol into luxury hotel accomodation
The lighting which was created to enhance the mood and atmosphere of the building was so dim that is was visually extremely challenging - this is something that definately needs addressing as a matter of priority
Everything was top class.
The cocktails were excellent and so was the food! The bath and shower superb!
No main light in room or bathroom Was told restaurant fully booked till 6.30 was empty when we got there Only one barman at busy period Bed was so hard and uncomfortable No temperature gauge in room was really hot
the staff was excellent!! the location was perfect! the room was nicely appointed the bed was very comfortable
the noise in and around the hotel which lasted until around 2:30-3:00 in the morning leading to a very unrestful night sleep. the location of our room was in a new section not the cell block section the heat was suffocating in the room with no way to turn it down that we could find.
Fantastic rooms great location all in all a nice stay
Room were a little on the dark side with the lighting
This hotel is very nice with great service and this is how all hotels should be.
