Score from 507 reviews Fabulous
Very friendly staff and the adjoining Starbucks.
Painfully slow wifi, dusty room, poor lighting and simply...too expensive.
Staff were all very friendly but Saturday night bar staff not sufficiently trained and not enough on duty
Football on loop on TV in cocktail bar late Saturday night. Appalling cleaning standards in bedroom
Helpful staff, dining facilities,location.
Lack of lighting. In room, no lighting to read by - bedside lights too dim and ceiling lighting too harsh. No light for applying make up. Also difficult to read menu at breakfast as spotlighting did not cover all tables or seats.
Large comfortable room. Across the road from the train station. Right in the heart of the town centre.
Couldn't get free WiFi to work from my third floor bedroom. Would have preferred a buffet style hot breakfast.
Room was well decorated and proportioned. Nice ambience in bar and restaurant. Ideal location and car park is very close.
Phoned the day before to enquire about early check in. We were told it wouldn't be a problem but on arrival we were told it wasn't possible. Left us with a problem as we needed somewhere to change before a function. Staff on reception tried to help but best we got was access to the disabled WC.
EVERYTHING IS GOOD.
NO BREAKFAST INCLUDED
Upgraded the room to the Ghan suite for our anniversary. The room along with spectacular roll top bath was amazing. Two flat screen TV's with bose sound system checked all of the tech boxes. Had a great meal in the brasserie. Staff were polite and very helpful. Waiter in the restaurant was great.
Room was quite dark with limited lighting.
The ambience, friendly staff, excellent food, the decor, the modern feel to the rooms, the extras, well stocked mini bar .
Can be a little too dimly lit.
Good sized bathroom, comfortable bed.
Starting to look tired and attracts noisy oiks..
The cost and location and the room was spacious
the lack of decent lighting in the rooms
The steam train theme of the hotel which I wasn't previously aware of
Dark lighting in the corridors
The fact that the room got changed.
The original room. In the basement (room 002) was dark and next to a loud party room. On the coldest night of the year so far the heating was off. Two single beds pushed together. The noise of the Starbucks upstairs that you can hear clearly through the ceiling of the room.
The lighting is poor. You can hardly see anything in the dim lights. Also, the temperature was very low and it could get chilly during the evening/night
Location Quiet bedroom Bed Bathroom Good food
General ambience good but check in was poor as no staff manning the desk on Friday evening. Also room lighting too dim and sink basins too far from mirror and lighting too poor for shaving etc.
Bathroom sink and lighting and mirror design poor. Evening check in reception staff poorly trained despite having been left specific instructions regarding separate arrival times for me and my wife resulting in lengthy delay in getting access to room. Also general feeling staffing levels were too low impacting upon morale standards and training!
Reception staff and restaurant staff amazing
The toilet kept flushing all night and kept us awake a disappointment as I was looking for a base for the next 3 years as my daughter is in uni at reading
Excellent facilities and toiletries. Very close to station and town centre. Individual and attractive furnishing, very tactile.
Awful view from window into a enclosed courtyard of other room windows and dirty walls. NO DOOR ON THE BATHROOM/TOILET - a step too far for the 'boutique' concept.
Comfy bed, good shower
Had to wait 45 mins to get in room. Was told bags would be brought up immediately, half an hour later I went and got them myself! Despite putting breakfast order on door handle at 6.30pm no breakfast had arrived by 11.15am so we checked out. They did refund a room service charge as a goodwill gesture, but they hadn't correctly delivered what was ordered anyway. Think Mal need to get their heads out of their own backsides and pay more attention to detail!
Loverly hotel, friendly efficient staff , good location
Lack of natural light in the bedroom , lighting wasn't bright enough in the rooms especially where the mirrors We're posistioned , that's the Only negative
First room we were allocated was above a very noisy bar. Second room looked onto an even noisier air con plant. Fortunately final room was fine.
A different generation's take on a railway feel - the interior design of the hotel was not spot on for old style railway travel, but did capture the atmosphere by clever use of lighting and design - very interesting - and the room had a wonderfully snug feel. The bed was extremely comfortable, - the bar very jolly, and the house Malbec well chosen. Great location too.
Despite eating brunch on a Sunday when the restaurant was not totally full, it felt as if the waiting staff were hell bent on pushing through the meal as fast as they could.
Location was good
Duvets were too hot and there was no alternative Shower tray was badly marked could do to be replaced
When we arrived we checked in and were given a room that was not ready for us. It had not been made up or cleaned from the previous guest. We went back to reception to be given another room. Our second room's bathroom floor had not been cleaned and still had soap residue and other marks on the floor. Unfortunately we were in a rush to go out and did not have time to request another room. This meant we could not shower before leaving for our night out and we requested it to be cleaned when we were out. In the morning we came down to a quiet breakfast room then waited 25 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. On leaving the hotel our ticket was validated for the car park to give us a £10 discount, however on leaving the car park we were charged £20 and nobody was around to rectify this. In general extremely disappointing for a Malmaison.
The staff were exceptionally courteous, and helpful. The hotel has that classy feel, my room was clean and luxurious and my cooked breakfast was outstanding! What's not to like?
The room was great, lovely bathroom, comfy bed with wonderful bedding and plenty of space. Free paper was a nice touch.
No fresh milk in minibar - had to use long life milk pods, staff were helpful but not overly so.
