Good location for Cheltenham races, staff very helpful, nice breakfast,Winshcombe village good for pubs and eating, definitely would return
Dark on roads outside if walking locally
The evening meal was excellent. The host and service was excellent very attentive and caring. The bed was comfortable.
The room needed a bit of TLC. There were a few cobwebs. The on suite finish was poor. Breakfast was served between 8 and 9 when I'm away from my kids for a weekend away I would like a bit of a lie-in.
Me and my partner stayed here last weekend for an overnight stay with breakfast. We enjoyed a day out at Cheltenham's festival trials day so the location was perfect for this - only a short taxi ride away which cost us about £20 (including return) We were made to feel very welcome and given a pot of tea and some cake on arrival which was lovely. The lounge/dining area downstairs was very pretty and had beautiful views of the countryside. It also included things like books, chess table/cards, magazines and board games which were nice personal touches if people wanted to use them. The guest house was also close to walks/pubs and local villages. The room had a nice rain shower in the bathroom. The bed was very comfy and cosy and the room had tea/coffee facilities and a tv which all came in handy. We thought the homemade soap and Cotswolds shampoo were also nice personal touches to the bathroom. The room was warm as well with plenty of radiators. It was a pleasant stay. We were asked if we wanted anything else to eat during breakfast i.e, extra toast/tea which we thought was nice. Staff were very friendly which made it an enjoyable stay - thank you! We would rate it 3 stars.
We thought the guest house could of improved in a few ways. For example; *Breakfast - was only available between 8 and 9am. Would of been quite nice if it would of run for an extra hour until 10am to have a bit more of a lie in. Also the breakfast wasn't that hot - it was served to us quite quickly which made us wonder whether it had been freshly made. We didn't enjoy it as much as we thought we would. *The room furniture/bed linen/curtains were all quite dated and old fashioned. Obviously the guest house want to keep the 'country house' vibe but the rooms did need some modernising. The room had a cosy feel but we expected more from it as it was rated 4stars on booking.com. *The room was a bit dusty and dirty on window cill ledges. Obviously we were fine with it as it was only an overnight stay but again we expected it to be very clean as it had been rated 4 stars. *Our lock on our door only locked from the inside - we tried and tried but couldn't lock it from the outside so had to take all our personal belongings with us e.g. purse etc. *The main door lock at the front of the guest house was a real struggle to open - again we tried and tried with the key but couldn't get it to budge. We phoned the doorbell and the lady let us in no problems but we were a bit embarrassed that we couldn't get it open! It just seemed really jammed. *We thought the towels in the bathroom weren't very soft or big - seemed quite old and dated. Perhaps some dressing gowns and some softer bigger towels would improve? Especially as it is advertised as a 4 star guest house. You also need to take your own shower gel as they don't provide this. Perhaps some bottled hand soap and hand lotion would also improve the style of the bathroom?
Barrie, the owner, was very friendly and extremely helpful. On New Year's eve we had a really gourmet dinner at the hotel cooked by Barrie's wife. Overall a very pleasant 2 day stay over New Year.
The owners were very accommodating and eager to help with any questions we had. Room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was very nice. Overall we were impressed and would return.
upgraded to a bigger room without even requesting this.
a bit cold
Like a small hotel but with the friendliness of a B & B
Would be unsuitable due to the hilly location for anyone who found steps or stairs difficult
evening meal was so delicious!!
Barrie was very welcoming Very nice breakfast Location, close to the racecourse Very comfortable beds
No lights on main road, so very difficult to walk anywhere in evening
Best welcome ever, fresh filter coffee, flapjacks and brownies. Excellent local knowledge of the area given by Barry (owner). Breakfast - excellent, extra toast/coffee no problem/no charge. Bed - very comfortable. Room quiet and warm. Would stay here again and would recommend to others.
I stayed for 1 night in the longhorn suite and paid £180. the bath leaked, the door handle came off the front door of my room from the inside this meant i struggled to get out of the room. The wall was wet in the hall part of the suite, the whole suite smelt damp and musty and this included the bed linen and my bedroom window was cracked.I had paid for my room as soon as i had arrived,i had also expressed how unhappy i was to the proprieter their was no offer of any refund or moving me to another room. A small gift bag was given to me on leaving for any missunderstanding, no missunderstanding extremely poor value for money and the breakfast was no more than average. I enjoyed the racing which is why i went to cheltenham but i would not stay here again as this ruined my break!
Absolutely perfect! The location is nice and quiet, the owner is very kind. It was very clean and the breakfast was delicious!
Dinner was excellent at th B&B. they were welcoming and the room we had was enormous.
In places decor could be improved there were areas that needed the high quality finish they had applied elsewhere.
Evening meal was very tasty, food overall was very good.
The steps up to the house were quite steep and struggled some what having walking difficulties but for anyone that is healthy it's a beautiful place and area to be.
Friendly and made to feel welcome
Some areas in need of decoration, a little tired in places.
Couldn't fault the outstanding location and helpful hosts.Nothing was too much trouble and they were very welcoming. The room itself was the dexter room which had a lovely view of the surrounding g country side..The bed itself was very comfortable and the rain shower in the bathroom was fantastic.Hotel backs onto a beautiful common area with outstanding views
I think some TLC is probably needed to the rooms and communal areas and although lovely The cooked breakfast was a little on the small side so I felt £100 for the room was a little pricey compared to other similiar places I have stayed at..but it's only a small gripe.
The food was excellent and worth a ten by itself.
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome! We were greeted at the door and our bags were carried to our room, we were given a complimentary cup of tea and a selection of yummy brownies!! Also a map of places to visit in the local area. We stayed in the Garden room and could not have asked for a better room! Very clean, toiletries and refreshment tray were a nice touch! The garden area leading into the common was beautiful, we went on night walk and the view was lovely! Very romantic! The bed was very comfortable and the rainfall shower was nice! Breakfast was one of the nicest I have ever been served in a hotel/b&b - nothing was too much trouble! Brilliant value for money. If you want a relaxing break, near Cheltenham and other areas in the Cotswolds this is the place to go! Would highly recommend! :)
They're several choices of breakfast. The quality of breakfast is nice.
The wifi coverage in my room is not so good only the bathroom area with strong wifi signal
Fantastic location, room and bathroom. Breakfast fresh fruit and yoghurt yummy for non hot breakfast eaters. Good place for drives to Stratford and Oxford and Bath
Central location for exploring the Cotswolds.
The lock on the door of our room was very difficult to turn. The owner assisted.
Lovely hotel and brilliant staff
The fabulous hospitality of the owning family, combined with a completely fitted bedroom, a fully equiped bathroom and a fantastic position in the surrounding landscape, make this hotel an ideal place to stay. The building is mostly in its original state.
The rattling in the wind of the lovely old slide-windows can become anoying. The stone steps to the frontdoor are partly worn out and some of the slabs lay lose. A minor disadvantage is the lack of a continental breakfast on the menu.
Great views and well looked after. Very nice people.
Bed was very comfortable. Food and service excellent.
Nothing to dislike!
