Very good,
Score from 60 reviews
Situated in the beautiful Conwy Valley, Maenan Abbey Hotel is on the outskirts of the magnificent Snowdonia National Park. Built as a gentleman's residence in 1850 on the site of the historic 13th century Cistercian monastery, the hotel is situated within beautiful grounds with the foothills of the Snowdonia range, providing a dramatic backdrop. As soon as you walk into the entrance hall, with its magnificent galleried Victorian staircase and blazing winter log fire, you will immediately feel at home. The hotel has recently undergone a great deal of refurbishment. The restaurant, lobby and lounge have all been refurbished to a very high standard, along with 6 of theh bedrooms, in a style sympathetic to the period of the building. While maintaining its historic traditions, Maenan Abbey offers all modern hotel facilities. All 14 bedrooms have private bathrooms and offer a flexible mixture of single, doubles, twins, a honeymoon suite with a 4-poster bed, and 3 family rooms. The Abbey prides itself on its cooking which offers a unique combination of traditional Welsh fair alongside more contemporary international dishes. Whenever possible, they use only the best products that are locally produced and cooked to the highest standard. The friendly bar is open to the public and attracts many locals and regulars as well as guests, while the elegant resident's lounge is the perfect spot to enjoy a quiet drink after dinner. The hotel can provide facilities for a variety of functions. It has a civil ceremony license for weddings. It can cater for private parties of different sizes, conferences and business meetings along with residential training courses. Please contact the hotel with any questions. Hotel Rooms: 14

Location, value for money restaurant and service. If non-smoker make sure that you confirm that you have been allocated a non-smoking room before arrival. If you are on an upper floor there is no lift access.

The manager-on-site/concierge was superb. When our car burst a tire and we arrived too late for dinner he arranged for sandwiches to be brought to our room, and next morning found us a lift to the local garage. The building is beautiful but the interior feels like the hotel fell on hard times about 20 years ago, and hasn't had the means to update itself since.

The building is impressive, like the website pictures. My wife and I were given a four-poster bed room, our friend was in a regular double. I was disappointed that there was no shaver point in the bathroom, and the only Wi-fi was downstairs by the staircase. Both would be expected in a hotel of this price. There was a large whirlpool bath, but with the low water pressure you would probably have changed your mind by the time the bath was full enough to enjoy! The staff were very good, as was the food (dinner and breakfast). Our four-poster bed was welcoming, if a little hard, and as the building was dated around 1850, the pillows were probably original from that date. We expected better for the price - but we were so tired after our journey that we slept well anyway!

A good value hotel where the staff made us very welcome and really looked after us during our stay. The restaurant provided excellent food at very affordable prices and the wine list was good. A beautifully located hotel within reach of all the North Wales countryside Our room did smell of smoke although we had requested non smoking -but it did not spoil our visit

The location was perfect. The staff on reception were exceptional and very helpful. (although he could have smiled a little more) But very pleasant. The room we stayed in was of good standard and well presented. The food was excellent and the wine list was even better - fab selection of wines - spot on !. Loved the entrance with the wonderful staircase. Will recommend to friends and come to stay again. I thought the evening meal times were a little early. But thats only personal preference.

We liked the relaxing atmosphere in its surroundings, the food was execellent. The staff were friendly politte and helpful. It eas very homely and comfortable would go again the price was fantastic. The mattress was very hard on the bed, and the room needed more dusting, and the grounds needed abit of attention like swepping up fag dimps. If we come back again we wouldnt stay in room 2 .

We chose the Hotel from the Internet afor its looks and Location and price. We could not fault Our deicision in any way and would have loved to stay longer. We will most certainly reurn at another time. The only criticism we could find would be that if you were disabled you would have a problem with thestaurs.

A very good hotel, excellent evening meal and very good breakfast - the chef is to be complimented. My room was spacious and the bed extremely comfortable. All the staff were friendly, welcoming and most helpful. My only one (minor) criticism would be that a little more attention ought to be given to cleaning in the corners of the room but that's it, everything else was first class!

The hotel was nice and staff where very helpful. Ideal for people who dont want to go anywhere as this hotel is in the middle of no where. My partner is 6ft 3in and he couldnt fit in the four poster bed as the bed wasnt long enought and had a end on it which made our stay uncomfortable and he could also see on top of the wardrobes which where very dusty. The Televison was small and the reception was dreadful and speckled.

Looking for two family houses in Rhos on Sea. Visited Conwy Castle which is well worth looking at. Also found the local village, Llanwrst, atractive, in particular the old Bridge. Only had two nights so could not do much and the weather was very damp.

looks impresive when you drive up to hotel , good location for touring the hotel needs a good manager, service in the restaraunt ,slow. service in the bar poor, one night I went down for a drink at 22.15, and the bar and reception was closed. could not find anyone arround. second night, the staff took over the bar arie, seemed as if thay were halping themselves to drinks, the person behind bar was more interested with them than the paying guests. On checkout thay could not even get the bill right.

Our 2nd visit - selected because it offered comfort, style and an convenient location. Acceptance of our dog was also an important factor. There was only a s small cost differential between Maenan and a much simpler, less comfortable B&B. The manager and staff are really engaging and deserve praise. Some fixtures in the room were tired and the wonderfully refurbished bathrooms had cosmetic issues. My tiler would have had a fit! As I say, they are cosmetic.

The scenery and location were excellent - central to many attractions. The grounds, exterior, staircase and the breakfast room were most impressive. Our room was in need of refurbishment. The water pressure was low, which meant the shower was inadequate.

The quietness of the hotel and the location, the facilities. Also the friendliness of the staff Food was good also. There was nothing I didn't like. There were one or two things I would like to see altered to enhance the hotel and its running.I Felt the menu could have been altered more. The lighting on the landings was very dim, for anyone with poor eye sight.

The friendliness of the staff, the location (very easy to find, with good access roads), along with the style of the hotel - being a converted abbey the style was charming and homely. There were a few cobwebs in our room. The carpet was mix and match throughout the room. Little touches were missing, such as no biscuits in the tea and coffee facilities.
