Score from 198 reviews Good
Room was cool and quiet, staff friendly and helpful after getting there and finding I had booked the wrong week, excellent breakfasts and evening meals
People on phone at breakfast making business calls.
Main dinner course average
Location, view from rear of hotel across golf course, quality of food, reception area and lounge both very pleasant, staff, plenty of parking, location to countryside
Lights not working in rooms, frayed towels and table cloths, broken chair in dining room
Friendly staff; peace and quiet
Golf course in the grounds. Food. Very attractive building.
Room a little small.
The situation, friendly staff good food
No decaffinated tea
Eating outside overlooking the golf course
No phone signal
The view from the rear of the hotel is superb, and there is a great terrace leading out from the ground floor bar overlooking the golf course. In the main the staff were pleasant and helpful. This is a place of great potential, (once it gets itself a new management).
Although the place has a magnificent bar (it even has a grand piano) it isn't open during weekends, and neither is the kitchen / dining room, except for breakfasts. We arrived there hot and thirsty on a Saturday lunchtime and having checked in, had to find a local pub to get lunch and a drink! And later we had to go out for an evening meal. We took the place as a last minute option, so it wouldn't have been our first choice. It was the only one in the area available on the day, and now we know why! The décor is fusty and medieval and like something out of the 1930s.
scenic location out of the way with period building. Breakfast was good value for money and served hot.
Hot water took forever to come through the shower. The rooms were very small with what appeared to be no insulation between the walls.
Staff very helpful when you could find one. The bedroom overlooked the golf course and duck pond.
Unfortunately for a business stop the breakfast starting at 7.30 is just to late. Thursday night is round table night and staff are scarce so avoid.
Lovely location. Really super staff. Fab food. Would def go back.
Didn't like is a bit strong - but the beds could be more comfortable as could the sofas in the lounge.
Needed a lot of work to bring it up to standard. Faded curtains, stained carpets, poor bed covers
Lovely view over golf course
Hot water was very slow
Location in the countrysuide is good
Hotel is old and tired, cooked breakfast 7.30 is not early enough when you are on business. Rooms are tired, TV in my room was a portable, not acceptable today, WiFi didn't work, bathroom was very small, with real danger with ceiling of a head injury.
A beautiful location
A bit like the marie celeste, with no one else around. No hot water in our room, a very bracing cold shower! We required an early breakfast as we had a long journey to attend a wedding, but, the earliest was 8.30.a.m.
This was a very nice hotel to stay at with extremely nice and helpful staff, the breakfast was also very nice
There was nothing not to like
Peaceful and quiet location. Good independent hotel.
Bar and restaurant not open at the weekend, no free wifi.
Quiet and relaxing looking over a golf course.
Soft bed, tiny ensuite and no restaurant for dinner had to drive a couple of miles to the village pub. Staff very nice, if you are a golfer it is probably okay.
Good breakfast and general support of the staff. A good location away from the bussle
Dinner options were good but slightly on the expensive side. Connectivity - no telephone reception (accepted that you can't do anything about this) Connectivity - Wi fi reception varies considerably depending on which room you are in. No reception at all in double room at the back. Unintentional negativity when paying the bill, reception saying that I shouldn't have been given a reduced room rate.
Very nice breakfast's, staff was friendly and hotel is in a lovely setting, added bonus of a little 9 hole golf course
Beer prices way too high, £4.20 per pint
Accommodation, food, staff
No signal for mobile phone - Orange network
No mobile signal no internet.
Great situation, very quirky, good food
In need of some TLC, rooms a little tired
Food and bar
Room very small
WiFi connection was excellent. Bed was very comfy
Not enough plug sockets, had to unplug the TV to plug the kettle in. As if happens, the TV didn't work so wasn't that much of an issue. Floor boards very noisy, the next room was up at 5.30am and woke me up with the floor boards sqeeking so much.
