Friendly and welcoming staff, but a very tired old building. We could hear everything going on in the next bedroom, walls are very thin!

A characterful old property, set on the edge of an attractive village green. Pleasant staff, and a cosy bedroom with all the facilities that we needed. A nice dining room where we had breakfast.

Very comfortable, good quality hot food, quick, courteous service, friendly staff. Magnificent building, but on one overnight stay for bed & breakfast, no time to enjoy a tour of the building, glimpsing only one of the panelled rooms. Have recommended to our local family and would stay again. What???????

Shame that the Stable Bar clientele (from the village) were on the rowdy side and made a nuisance of themselves with a single woman guest sitting near us in the courtyard. Staff aware but did nothing (they appeared very friendly with the locals). We understood the fine line between keeping much needed local support and making guests' stay pleasant but I think on this occasion it fell over into "not good". However we intend to return - so do not read too much into this!

The helpful staff went out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. Carried our luggage from the car to the room. The duvets were too warm even with the window open and the pillows were hard. Missing from the room was the handset for the tv, information about the hotel and facilities, mealtimes, spa and safety! The member of staff found the handset under the bed. We found money (£3.40. & hair grips under the bed so the cleaning hadnot been done well enough. Reception did not have spare information sheets that had been missing from the room!

The food at the xmas party was very nice. Also the spa was nice The rooms were cold, the heating and tv did not work in first room given. The breakfast staff were useless and rude. There was only enough hot water for one shower.

Liked the old world charm of the place. Beautifully renovated hotel. If you like old stone buildings, this is superb and the rooms were excellent for the price. Nothing much around the close vacinity but this is a little oasis where the food and service were very good. No point in eating elsewhere as there didn't look to be anywhere and the restaurant, staff and food were excellent.

The hotel was very comfortable with great facilities. My only comment would be that I asked the staff on the second day if they could possibly arrange a feather pillow as I get a stiff neck & they said that they would. When I returned to my room later that evening, the same pillows were on the deb which was disappointing

I liked the fact that this is a litlle diffferent from the chain hotels and feels quite historical. The room was spacious, clean and quiet and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel is located in countryside. The 'Stable Bar' was a little strange in that it was set apart from the main buildings and to get coffee, you had to go back to the main building and then it would be carried through. Also, it was advertised as being close to Durham, but it actually takes about 30 minutes to get to Durham from the hotel.

Good location with beautiful period features in communal rooms. Good breakfast. Room 18 is situated next to the function room, with music heard very loud in the room. Usually it is reserved for guests attending the function, but in our case we were hoping for a relaxing evening and were unable to sleep. The alternative room was of poor standard in both facilities and cleanliness.
