I like the building as it was a castle
I feel I was conned as there were three of us staying and when I was booking there was no option for a family room. There were 3 of us going and I had to book two twin rooms. The confirmation I received was that our accommodation was for two people per room however when we arrived the room we received was a family room which slept 3 people. We had booked two twin rooms, one of these rooms was not used as we all slept in the one room. I felt we had paid money for nothing and that the option for a family room was not given. I was not happy with the breakfast and the grounds were all muddy and my boots were ruined. I was there for as I was attending a funeral the next day. My sister and her family were also there and they were told that the hotel was closing this week as there were no guests. I felt I was conned into two rooms when the one would have been sufficient and they were only after money. They said their information was that there was four people in our family but I had said 3 in my instructions. I am not happy
Friendly staff. Its a castle!
Converted building, so lots of stairs.
Food is nice Great character building
Staff friendliness and excellent breakfast
Had to ask for heating to be put on (Out with the room) as room was very cold on arrival.
The meal we had was ok, however cannot comment on breakfast as we did not have any
The rooms on the extension that we were in nos 11 & 12. Firstly we were in 12, but the bathroom had cracked floor tile, sink coming away from wall, threshold bar in room corridor with screw heads protruding. We were moved to room 11 but this was only slightly better, the bath had dirty cracks and mould growing on the walls. The bed was uncomfortable and generally the room looked tired and worn. Unfortunately the shower screen leaked onto the tiled floor when I was having a shower, and when I stepped out of the shower onto the floor towel it slipped and I went crashing to the floor. It was a miracle that I did not break any bones, however, I had the wind knocked out of me and was in a state of shock. We reported this when we went down for breakfast later, we were surprised at the lack of sympathy shown by the reception staff and the comment from them `was it the shower screen leaking then' So it appears that they are aware of the problem but didnt bother to tell us nor have they rectified it! What is it going to take for them to make their bathrooms safe to use ?
Staff were very friendly, accommodating. Bar is cozy, easy to chat. Bed is very comfortable and rooms are spacious.
It is more like a 'Great House'. Unless you book the tower room you really can't experience the castle feel (no twisty staircase up to the turret available)
Great location. Lovely hotel!
Nothing in particular except for the rack of lamb we had for dinner, not the best but the meat tastes fresh.
Annoying waitress who needs more training on serving. Radio music with broadcasting during breakfast and dinner.
Building inside and out was was welcoming. Nice private drive and grounds Staff were all very young and friendly
Decking area attached to such a historic building - it just looked so out of place.
Great one night stay in the comfortable and spacious Tower Suite, very good service from pleasant staff, excellent breakfast.
Great atmosphere, staff, rooms & location. If you want to stay in a castle then this is the place. Lots of fun.
Restaurant for dinner a bit overpriced & food slightly over cooked.
This is a very fine hotel which is full of character. The appearance on arrival is quite spectacular and we were given a very warm welcome. Our room was in the old part of the castle and was very spacious and charming. It had a large bay window with seating and also a separate sofa which was ideal for watching the TV. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom too, was enormous with high quality fittings. We stayed for three nights and ate in the restaurant twice. The cuisine was first class. The breakfasts were also excellent and were large enough to keep us going right through to dinner time. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others.
Good location, walking distance of town centre
The broken toilet that could not be fixed, this had already been mentioned to staff, who denied this. The problem was detailed on another website one month previous!
king bed was two singles pulled together and one was one inch lower than the other Poor quality room
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved the haggis and the smoked haddock for breakfast. Room 21 was quiet and comfortable with a jacuzzi bath.
No shower cap provided which is unusual. Only 10 minutes walk from the town centre but late at night it felt a little spooky.
The evening meals and the cooked breakfast were excellent.
The plug in the bath leaked, and had to ask the heating to be put on in our room.
Staffed by local lassies from Tain. Charming, cheerful and efficient. Manager claimed he just let them get on with it. Clearly an expert manager. An older "Castle" style building retaining much of the original style with skillful adaptation. Comfortable and welcoming. We had a basic room on a late booking which was more than adequate. Dinner was good in a pleasant dining room. Located on a quiet residental street in Tain but only a short distance from the town centre.
Not really a dislike, more a pointer. Because of the nature of the listed building the hotel does not have disabled facilities but would direct any one requiring such facilities to their sister Morangie hotel.
value, cold water shower
Unlike some of the older Scottish country house hotels, this was really well maintained. The staff were friendly & welcoming. Dinner was much better than expected (I usually avoid hotel restaurants) and breakfast was excellent.
Location good. Quiet. Excellent breakfast choices. Kipper was great. Even had all the ingredients for mixing a Bloody Mary if you so desired
Did not know how to fix a dry martini. No ground floor accomodation
In annex on side not really in the castle. Well worn room
Fabulously spacious room!
Early entry to our room prior to an early wedding. Extremely helpful staff. An excellent breakfast. Access to the hotel at 2.00 am, which went on longer than we had anticipated.
Room 24 was a long way away from the hotel entrance for a "mature" couple over 70 years old! We did struggle a bit, and would ask for something closer next time.
Nice bedrooms. Breakfast choice average (fruit salad with a lot of sugar).
Very friendly staff, good food, great service and a nice location, well recommended!
