Having read the reviews after making the booking we were in some trepidation as to what we would find. The reviews were very mixed. However, the reception was freindly and welcoming, the room was spacious, clean, comfortable and well appointed. The staff were helpful, friendly and always curtious. The food was excellent with a good and varied choice. Yes, there were a few cracks in the ceiling, so what! The Hotel was a little dated but does that matter? We would have no hesitation in staying there again.

I was put in a very noisy room above the bar.the extractor fan was so violent it shook the whole room.I complained to reception and they said that they would ask the batman to turn it off, well after 15mins the racket & vibration was the same. I complained again and was given a nice quiet room .Obviously a lot of hassle re-packing & unpacking.Annoying thing was the hotel was quiet and these quiet rooms were available. No real apology given.

Bad bits: very tired decor. My headboard still had the old style upholstery with speakers and radio controls! The bed had seen better days. It squeezed so loudly every time you rolled over during the might it woke me up. I turned the radiator control to 'off' but it stayed hot. The shower head looked dangerously dirty, so had bath instead. The good:- bed linen and towels were snowy white clean. Hot water was always available. Receptionist was very helpful. I did not eat there so cannot comment on food. I realise and accept I only paid £38 for the room, and in that respect you get what you pay for. However, because of the awful bed, and therefore lack of sleep I paid £38 for a bath and the use of a wardrobe.

The Marlborough Hotel is in a great location with many of the rooms having a direct view of the beach & sea. The bathroom & bed linen were spotless. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room. There was a small but functioning lift to the second floor. Staff were friendly. It was inexpensive for one nights stay. I stayed off season, but in the summer, it should be mentioned that there is a go-kart track immediately outside the hotel on the prom. This could get noisy. The hotel decor has seen better days. The mattress was lumpy and, as the night went on, I felt the springs digging in to my flesh. So much so that I had to double up the duvet and sleep on top of it and use the extra blanket provided as a cover. There didn't appear to be any central heating on in the room, the radiator remained cold throughout my visit. There was a portable electric fire that I switched on instead. This dried up the air in the room, so I had to switch it off in the night as I'd prefer to be cold rather than have a sore throat the next day. Fortunately, I was only staying one night so I just got on with it & checked out. The staff were accommodating, so I've no doubt they would have addressed these issues if I'd brought them to their attention. Breakfast was relatively cheap at £4 per person, but again, you get what you pay for. Cheap sausages, tinned mushrooms, cold plate, that sort of breakfast! The over all impression of the place was Dated & Tired and a bit down-at-heal, with the staff trying to make the most with what they have to work with.

On Christmas Day we were each given Christmas presents by the hotel which was nice. The staff were friendly and helpful and the rooms were clean. The hotel decor was drab, the room fittings were old and worn, the bed mattress was lumpy and the hotel layout was a bit of a rabbit warren.

Friendly, helpful staff. Relaxed atmosphere; retains original features of Edwardian hotel, does not try to be too modern. Good value. Comfortable place to stay when on your own.

My stay was lovely, the staff were very attentive and informative, the room was lovely and warm with plenty of space and storage. The only thing I found was the shower didn't work very well and could so with having the shower head replaced. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay and with the price being reduced that weekend to £82 for 2 nights it was a bargain many thanks helen wilson
