Delicious breakfast, nice building and location Beware of the single room - which has a window that rattles in the wind and kept me up!

Marmadukes is a fabulous hotel. We have been coming here annually since 2006 and have stayed in most of the room styles. However, this latest trip was particularly memorable as we received a free upgrade on arrival to the York Suite. It was stunning. And to think we had the whole of the suite for the same price as our original booking was a great touch. Staff at the hotel are lovely - friendly, accomodating and always on hand to offer advice or book a taxi. Location is ideal, in a leafy street a stones throw from the City centre. Good quality breakfast the next morning and generally lovely surroundings. It's one of our favourite places and we can't recommend it enough. There is nothing to dislike about Marmadukes - it is a great hotel. Keep up the good work!

Elegant building, immaculately kept, good quiet location, friendly & helpful staff, lovely antique furniture, large modern bathrooms with good sized baths, plentiful hot water, very comfortable bed, well lined curtains to block dawn light, excellent breakfast. Welcomed our extra guest for breakfast & did not rush us out of the dining room, happy to bring extra coffee etc. Real "service with a smile". Dim lighting in bedroom, room hot but unable to keep window open or control temperature, requested 2 extra pillows when booking but not there when we arrived & then only one supplied when we asked. Little space for tea making & in a very dimly lit corner of the room.

A lovely boutique hotel - we felt very spoilt in our 4 poster bedroom! Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was fabulous. Only a short walk to the Minster. We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends. Nothing!

The 4 poster room was fabulous, very comfortable. The hotel was in great surroundings. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was excellent! Although luxurious, the room was very cold during the night, probably due to the time of year. Having to pay extra for parking when already paying £100 for the room wasn't great.

The hotel was in a good location, easy to find. The room was spacious and very comfortable. I liked the old world feel it had and the breakfast was good. The parking facilities could be better and although I liked the room at 6am some kind extractor fan came on outside.

This is luxury on a budget. We loved our stay and would not hesitate to go back Parking in York can be difficult. You need to get to the hotel at the right time to get a space!

Location. Staff were friendly. In our view the facilities didn't really match the advertised standard . On site car parking limited and we had to park a ten minute walk away. Wasn't a problem but we hadn't really noticed it was necessary to pre book parking but as hotel was full probably wouldn't have made a difference. Staff unable/forgot to provide extra pillows. TV screen very small for the shortsighted.

Breakfast was great. Full English, freshly cooked and other menu options available. Location was good. Just a short walk into York centre. The room was very disappointing. We paid extra for a delux room which was supposed to be larger and finished to a higher standard. The room was very small, in need of a freshen up and looking rather dingy and tired.

Marmadukes is a comfortable, characterful hotel. It is within walking distance of the centre of town. The rooms are furnished with interesting period furniture. There are areas in the hotel which need a little attention/redecoration. This was our second stay at the hotel and were dismayed when we were charged extra for parking!

I loved every minute of my stay at markadukes!! The room was stunning, and the gorgeous roll top bath I had, was the most relaxing bath I've had in a long time. Both myself and my husband would love to revisit this hotel. I had spent sometime reading over the reviews of the hotel and was quite unsure of what to expect as the reviews were quite mixed, after having an amazing time the only thing I can honestly say I didn't like we're the negative reviews as I couldn't find fault in this hotel, it was beautiful!!
