food, comfortable bed,
bathroom smelt damp
The hotel was set in lovely grounds and the hotel was over all a very high standard
I booked 7 rooms in total and all but one was the same price, but one was an extra £30 for a view, as I was booking at I took this room, but to my disappointment the room was miles from reception and the view was a tree, other rooms I'd booked were closer and better views
Mince pies and mulled wine on arrival :-)
Pool and leisure facilities wasn't very well sign posted and we got very lost looking for it
The grounds were beautiful. The room was decorated to a high standard. Staff on reception were friendly and smiley. Although the hotel was fully booked it was quiet.
Staff did not advise of facilities eg restaurants etc on site. Had a room only rate, additional costs for breakfast and internet in the room.
Facilities and area
Nothing to dislike
The bed was large and comfortable, more pillows would have made the night's sleep even better. The room was very sound-proof, no disturbances. We think the hotel is more appropriate for golfers as the facilities looked very good. Reception staff friendly.
Only one bedside table, so I had to physically move the occasional table as a substitute. No water in the room, so had to purchase a bottle at an incredible cost of £4.10! in the restaurant. Restaurant staff were a bit frosty and we were embarrassed at breakfast when we were challenged by the Restaurant Manager as we had put our evening meal bill on our room number without leaving advanced credit on the card - perhaps they thought we were going to run off without paying? We have never had to do that in other hotels. Shower head was too low for my partner and we couldn't adjust it.
Was lovely place
In my room the shower didnt work. Had to queue for the breakfast for 20 minutes.
The setting its self was lovley, and was a very relaxing place to stay, one of the better Marriotts to stay in!!
The younger waiting staff struggled to understand english termanology, and need to be trained to a higher standard in waiting on the tables, felt very rushed at breakfast when clearing while others were still eating.
Returned each night to a beautifully made bed, clean towels (lots of them GR8!) coffee & biscuits topped up - 10 out of 10. Waiter in the Zest bar & receptionist spot on too! Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks.
On arrival we met Nadine ( Berliner Lady) after a long drive full on issues. Nadine could not be more helpful and welcoming. On the second day again asked how we settled in and did we have any problems. We are people taht have spent some time going to shows in the NEC, This was our first time to use the Forest of Arden, we will be back because of the consideration taken by this lady.
While we could not find fault with the service levels available to us we did however question the approch made by the bar staff at what must have been closing time and the fact that we could not use cash to pay for our drinks in caused confusion when the sorting of the final bill at checkout time came.
Hotel was pleasant and clean. Staff were fine but without much enthusiasm. The restaraunt was booked up on our first night, so we ate elsewhere. We ate at the restaraunt on our second night and although it was nice enough we enjoyed our meal the previous night more outside of the hotel.
We had breakfast in our room on the first morning and the tray with out empty plates and left overs was still in the corridor when we left! It had sat for 24 hours. There seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm amongst the staff, but no one was rude or unobliging.
Closeness to NEC Setting of the hotel Room very comfortable Oaks Bar and Grill very atmospheric and cosy
Zest restaurant too cold (air con on when we were there in Nov) and first girl (think she had a navy jacket on) who we asked to turn it off or down ignored our request - 2nd girl was very helpful though. Swimming pool closed for maint on Friday evening
Could do with a decoration, you could see that the hotel has not been decorated for some years and there looked to be areas of neglect such as the pool area. Not much menu choice in the bars specially with older children who don't fall into the "kids" menu.
Good location, food and gym. Would definitely recommend.
Staff a bit flustered on a busy saturday night
Beautiful hotel, great facilities.
Very uncomfortable bed
Comfortable room. Close to NEC. Breakfast buffet had chef making omelettes!
Sprawling, ugly, unstylish, non-architecture and really bad decor. WiFi £6 per hour! Broken lift. Main restaurant fully booked - no space even for guests. Other restaurant noisy with blaring football match on at least 3 TV screens from all directions. Dinner buffet was very poor, dishes cold and almost empty. Breakfast buffet was not replenished quickly enough. Pancakes and waffles - would have been a nice touch but they were cold, stodgy and stuck together. All the food presentation was very poor.
location and overall appearance very good
Well, clearly we were very happy with the hotel..We felt absolutely welcomed by all of the staff. Nobody let you or us down.. How nice is that!
Our only fault was an omission. We and our guests, would have liked a minibar in our rooms and water to drink which did not come from a bathroom tap.
Restaurant prices were reasonable. Food was good, service was friendly.
Welcome at desk was rather rushed. Slow service in the restaurant, despite not being full. Had to walk outside to get to the room.
Staff are excellent
Pool / Spa
NO FREE WI-FI IN ROOMS - Very Bad at this price level
Rooms were comfortable. Staff very friendly.
Price of food. Breakfast not included in price. Spa area tired.
The check in was fine, room ok although a little small. Food at the evening meal was excellent.
Lots of staff at the bars but busy doing everything except serving customers. Bar prices very high.
A very comfortable hotel with a pleasant and relaxing ambience. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu offered a good variety of fayre and the standard of food was excellent. All in all a very enjoyable visit and we will certainly be returning.
