Staff, building, welcome
Noisy bathroom fan
The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly, towards both me and my dog. Perfect relaxing country break with access to stunning walking trails. Great food and drink at the hotel restaurant as well.
Wonderful old building, full of character. Staff very friendly and helpful and food was wonderful. A great location for exploring the Borders and Scotland. Eyemouth and St Abbs are only a short drive away and well worth a visit.
Convenient for A1
Efficient and friendly. Good food and comfortable room.
No problems to report.
lovely quiet location in own grounds. Warm welcome. Food excellent
paintwork could do with refreshing.
Sticky table tops Expensive for what it was
not a lot!
Faded throughout and room smelt of ancient cigarette smoke.
Setting, building, almost everything. Wish we'd booked dinner as it would probably have been better than the mean out we had!
Some fixtures and fittings a bit cheap and nasty and out of character with the true style of the place.
Room was furnished well Room was a good size Excellent large bathroom Good choice of breakfasts Friendly & helpful staff
Evening meals a bit expensive TV rather small
This country house has the bones of a five star hotel and lacks only a few coats of paint, some new upholstery, and perhaps a lift. Very attentive staff. Good amenities.
Signs of damp and worn upholstery speak more to a lack of capital than to any real failings. As it is, this hotel is very good value--comfortable, spacious, and gracious, if a bit shabby gentile.
food staff quietness
noisy extraction fan below bedroom
That the staff were friendly and approachable.
We were given the best room available on arrival, not what we thought we had booked for, the room was at the back of the building and the smallest.
Location, garden looked beautiful. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Not enough staff on duty and no one able to change the barrel when the larger ran out.
Dinner was poor and expensive breakfast cold tea undrinkable did not even get what was ordered a very tired and outdated hotel charging top prices
Beautiful setting, very quiet; excellent dining facilities. Staff very amenable including offering use of email checking facilities.
The fact that we could only spare three days to stay there! :-)
great food and warm welcome
Location and very friendly staff.
The food; the local bottled beer; the bed; the shower. Staff were very friendly.
Couldn't find anything to complain about.
I loved the large grounds surrounding the hotel and the direct access to the coastal path The breakfast was as excellent - especially the haggis and black pudding. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel has a real homely feel to it and I really enjoyed staying there.
The one significant downside for our purpose was that the distance to the centre of Berwick is significantly further than the 1 mile advertised in "booking.com", something I would class as "walking distance". The hotel's own website is about right when it gives the distance from Berwick as 2 miles, as the £ 8 taxi fare to town would testify. If you are happy to take the car into town or get the hourly bus service, this is a cracking place to visit and there are so many positives to outweigh the "distance" consideration.
A beautiful old building. The rooms were well furnished and spotlessly clean, the grounds were lovely and there were nice walks all around. A huge herb garden is being developed at the moment where the old tennis courts were situated which will be very interesting as we were told that most of the garden produce will come from there too. Lots of easy parking.
So many stairs and having to book a time for an evening meal in the restaurant.
Really comfortable rooms. A wonderful lounge with excellent biscuits and cakes. The dining room (we ate in every night) served wonderful dinners but it was the amazing kipper and full fry up that was extra special. Really friendly and helpful staff.
No complaints at all!
The hotel stands in its own grounds and as the weather was lovely while we were there, it was great to be able to make the most of the surrounding area and sit outside in the garden. Staff were lovely and the breakfasts were really nice.
I travelled with my mum who is in her late 80s and all the rooms are up a flight of stairs. Also, there was a shower over the bath which made it difficult for her to use this facility without help.
The food ( and the mints on the reception counter! ) Comfortable bed. Helpful staff
Can't think of anything.
Provision of gluten-free food and how this was marked on the menu thus obviating the need to ask everytime!
