The staff were extemely helpful and were very pleasant and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The design of the hotel was classy and authentic to the age of the property and the rooms were extremely comfortable and spotless. The breakfast was very good and plenty of tea and toast was supplied when asked for, a very enjoyable stay and we would have no hesitation in returning there. Well done The car park was too small

We only stayed for one night on the way to a family funeral so it was not a fun occasion. However, Craig and Ian gave us a super welcome and we felt that it would be a place we would enjoy staying at in the future.

The owners, Craig and Ian, gave us a very personal welcome and refreshments on arrival, along with some very good local information on places to visit and a comprehensive list of personally recommended local restaurants. The furnishings are very attractive. The quality and choice of breakfasts was excellent.

I don't think I can pinpoint one thing that was best at the hotel as everything was excellent. The owners and staff were so welcoming. The food there was excellent and the dining was great. Our room was perfection. I really couldn't have hoped for a better stay.

The Marstan was the perfect short break for us, we were welcomed with the offer of tea and coffee, given lots of information regarding the area and a superb listing of the restaurants in Torquay. After filling out the necessary forms, we were shown to our room, the bags had already been taken up for us. We were in the Four poster room over the pool. The room was perfect, plenty of space and nice and light. Breakfast was first class, the ladies looking after us were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. I had the best scrambled eggs ever, and also there was marmite on the cold buffet table. (So many places do not do this these days!). There was a good mix of guests and we would recommend the Marston to everybody.

The hosts were very welcoming but not intrusive. The ladies who served breakfast were lovely. Pleasant setting. The guesthouse lacked the 'wow' factor we were expecting for a 5* establishment. We have stayed in better lower rated B&Bs for much less money. The deciding factor for choosing the Marston was the heated outdoor pool, however it didn't feel anywhere near the 'tropical 30 degrees' mentioned in the literature. In fact we never put more than our feet in as it was just too cold - this was a big disappointment. The complimentary toiletires were not replenished - only when requested.

From the minute we rang the bell we were made to feel very welcome and given 5 star treatment. We were offered a cup of tea before we sorted out paperwork and then was told the best places to eat and places that were worth visiting. We were given our own set of keys and was able to come and go as we pleased . Whenever we asked for something they were only to happy to oblige and didn't keep us waiting to long . Breakfast was lovely and all the staff were very friendly and polite . We would definately consider staying here again and would happily reccommend it to anyone who requires a nice relaxing time or just a nice break .

We booked at very short notice and it was really great! Would definitely recommend. Yes the small room was small but perfectly furnished and the bathroom was lovely. The people running it were really friendly and recommended 2 great places to go for a drink and breakfast was perfect. Just sad we never got to try the very nice looking swimming pool!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at The Marston. We were there for a short break in our busy working lives. It was extremely peaceful and quiet with good service and excellent facilities. Ian and Craig, the owners, gave us good advice about where to eat and things to do and places to visit. Jean, the housekeeper, was especially bright and cheerful when serving breakfast. All in all a great holiday.

Craig and Ian were excellent hosts and nothing seemed too much for them. Decided to avoid the bigger chains and go for a smaller hotel and found this real little 5 star gem in the heart of Torquay at the same price you would pay for a 3 star hilton / holiday Inn. Relaxing in the outside spa bath with a beer after work was the highlight of my day. Looking forward to returning to the Marstan for next years event.

Could not fault this hotel, the hoteliers, staff, service, cleanliness, food, comfort, had a great three nights stay. Most enjoyable, we will try and return again for sure. Shame that it is on a hill, but do not let this put one off. This hotel is worth it, Bus and taxis are good and at reasonable cost.

The Marston is a wonderful mix of old world style but with a modern contempory feeling that fits wonderfully with the property and the surrounding area. The atmosphere and welcome at the Marston is perfect. Ian and Craig are wonderful hosts, providing anything you want but giving you the space to relax and enjoy your time. The breakfasts are excellent and the setting is delightful and reminds you of the service we expected in days gone by. There are none of your dumb waitress either, the lady who serves in morning is delightful and looks more like a ballerina....... We loved the Marston.
