Score from 264 reviews Wonderful
The rooms were clean and big, comfortable, well equipped. Well varied breakfast. The place is well connected with the city centre, as well as closer the nature, closer the Arthur's Seat.
Excellent service at reception desk with plenty of help and support regarding local services and amenities. Breakfast was of a very high standard. The food was very fresh and delicious and service was excellent.
The room although perfectly equipped was on the small size. The accommodation is on a university campus so can be a bit noisy.
This was our second stay at the complex in 5 years and was excellent on both occasions. Was interested to find that a number of performers from the Tattoo were staying on the campus
The room was hot at night due to the heating being on and although the radiator was turned off the flow and return pipes running through the room kept it hot. Does the central heating have to be on in August?.
Poor soundproofing of rooms Wet room rather than separate shower
each year there has been different things that have changed , when we first went you paid for wifi , now free , the choice's of breakfast are great , from a scotch roll to haggis with all you can imagine in between , each as much as you like and all ways fresh fruit to take away
Breakfast good but very busy
No parking guaranteed so had to find alternative parking. Hallways very noisy at night.
Everything. Room was ideal as a base for our fringe weekend needs. Super comfy and super clean. Breakfast is immense - so much choice. All staff encountered were very helpful. Only a 30 mins stroll to the city centre - or a few hours if you have time to enjoy some lovely pubs ! Stayed here last fringe, booked it for this years fringe, booking again for 2015 fringe and also booking for a family weekend for the Christmas festivites. Boss place :)
The reception staff making sure we got best out of our stay. The chambermaid was also exceptional, just coming from commonwealth games were motto was people make Glasgow, same for Edinburgh!
Price! A bit pricey. This would influence a return visit.
The staff were really courteous and informative. The location was good - only 20 min to The Mile. Really liked the shower gel provided.
The room was very very small and the bathroom was a wet room. The room needed DIY eg paint had come off at alot of places. There was not enough room for a small chair so alot of stuff ended up on the bed. We would not be using this place again even though it is really convenient.
The fact that it was really close to the centre and we wanted to be near so we didn't have to travel.
We didn't like the breakfast set up, it felt like being in school/university. But it wasn't a problem.
Location was excellent, just a short walk from city centre. Small hotel & fairly noise free. Breakfast provided was good, lot's of choice & was a case of help yourself. Would use again if I have to stay overnight in Edinburgh.
Not really a dislike, more of a surprise to find that it was situated on Campus. Initially thought sat nav had taken me to the wrong place. However, after getting over the initial surprise of the location, we were pleasantly surprised. Location for breakfast in the big dining hall was another surprise. I had initially thought we would have breakfast in Masson House itself. However, this posed no great problem. Breakfast was excellent, although a wee bit busy! Although taking everything into account, price, location etc it was well worth the money & would not hesitate to use again.
Great for walks along the crag! near to town, not too far to walk. Clean, basic accommodation. Staff lovely. great to have tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer available, tv, lovely bodywash product - fresh, clean smell, nice touch!
Breakfast 'canteen' - very busy and 'school' like (although the choice of food was good!!) The very small shower/ensuite room.
Staff we're very pleasant and helpful
Breakfast was inedible, tea and coffee like dishwater and the room was very basic for the price.
the bed was great ,staff very helpful, breakfast was great ,
the walk to breakfast ,bar closing at 2300 hrs on a friday night menu selection not good
Location was really good. easy access to the local Holyrood park and its facilities. Easy access to town - we walked but you could easily get a bus. Breakfast selection was massive and really good quality. Reception staff were very pleasanty and prompt to correct a small issue in our room - no sugar for the coffee!! Room was very clean and well maintained.
Didn't realise it wasn't an actual hotel which was a bit concerning on arrival as we didn't know if we had made a mistake with our booking. The walls in the room were a bit thin and it was quite easy to hear the muffled conversations in adjoining rooms. Little bit of a trek to the breakfast location, again not a problem for us but more infirm people would find that an issue I'm sure. Not sure if there was a bar onsite.
Adequate facilities, great breakfast
A bit snug, only one chair
the room was a little bit small
Compact room with excellent shower facilities. A good night's sleep and a first rate breakfast
Breakfast was excellent, location was away from main roads so very quiet, location was close enough to city centre and very close to bus stop also right next to Arthur's seat so great place for walking, easy access to laundry facilities, tidy and very helpful staff
wonderful views from our top floor window, fabulous breakfast, pleasant staff
our bed was just to soft, not very comfortable at all
Proximity to centre of Edinburgh Breakfasts were good. Staff were good.
Our room overlooked the drop off point.there was considerable noise at various times during the night. No hot water on two early morning occasions .
Convenient for access (short bus ride) into city and free car parking. Plentiful breakfast if you have the stamina. Relatively quiet location but room over the entrance with constant comings and goings below not ideal!
It's student halls accommodation. Small stuffy room. Unventilated bathroom. No shower tray; possible to widdle, shower and clean your teeth simultaneously. Breakfast buffet not easy to negotiate in vast, noisy refectory building some distance from rooms.
The facility is located on a college campus away from city streets and pubs, which means less noise from people on their way home after a night of drinking (this was an issue when I stayed closer to the city center last year). The staff was very friendly and responsive. They were very accommodating with my disabled parents and quickly solved a problem we had with the hot water. Taxi service from the hotel is fast and convenient. Breakfast was fine and overall this was a good value for the price.
The walls are paper thin and you can hear every door slam, people coming/going, talking, snoring, etc. There are no curtains, which means you wake up with the sunrise if you haven't already been awakened by the noise. The hot water went out completely the last day; however, the staff quickly found another room for us to shower in so the inconvenience was minimal. Charge categorized as "Educational," which means you can't use travel points on your card for reimbursement.

Unfortunate issue in the kitchens meant emergency repairs at 3am which were very noisy but couldn't be helped
