Made to feel very welcome. The room and ensuite were very clean. Digital TV and wifi in the room. Multi socket plug on chest of drawers was very useful. Good quality bedding and pillows. Full English breakfast was excellent. Very close to the Cathedral and Bailgate. Suggest reversing into the parking spaces at rear of property to make the exit easier to negotiate. Directions to rear of property are on the website. Suggest you ask your taxi to use rear entrance aswell.

The room was clean & the owner was friendly. The breakfast was first class. It was difficult to get to the town centre as it was very steep & as a mature couple with health problems, we found that having to climb a steep road with hand rails to help to get back to the guest house was not what we were expecting, & no indication was mention it the write up

A very friendly place with great sized rooms with a beautiful view, period features and decorated to a tasteful and charming standard within an easy walk to the cathedral. The owner was great source for providing local knowledge and kindly prepared breakfast earlier for me due to my check out time. As it is a traditional place some may find it dated however I found it part of the charm.

Well positioned just a short walk away from the Cathedral and castle, Mayfield has its own off road guest parking though we left our car outside as the space looked a little too tight. Our room was comfortable and clean and being at the back of the house there was no noise from the road. Breakfast was very good and the owner friendly. The price we paid was excellent for such a good location. Our room looked somewhat dated and tired and in need of refurbishment, specially the en suite shower room. The appearance of a room does make a difference, and a really good shower is always appreciated. That said, for the price, the room served its purpose and the old fashioned decor didnt detract from our visit.

Very friendly attentive and welcoming. Good English breakfast and very nice view from our room. Nice clean sheets and towels. Ability to park on site. Needs a facelift and refurbishment and more attentive general cleaning. Basically it looks sad but for the price it was good. There lies the problem for the owners who were lovely people. I would recommend Mayfield to my friends on price and location.

We felt very welcome even though we had arrived quite early. Proprietor full of local knowledge of places to visit. The beds were so lovely and comfortable I wish I was staying longer Great view from the large window. Plenty of room in the bathroom and well laid out and very clean, but I had a job to regulate the temperature of the water in the shower.

The owner was incredibly welcoming, gave advice and directions about local landmarks / places to eat and directions to the location of the university college that I was visiting for an interview. Although I did not take breakfast, the owner offered to begin breakfast preparations early to match my departure time. Room was excellent value for money, more a double room than a single! Nice, quiet and comfortable. Could not fault my stay.

The room was really warm on arrival on a bitterly cold day. Very comfortable bed and two easy chairs, useful as we didn't go out in the evening as planned because it was so cold. Good breakfast.
