Beatifully appointed, large, clean rooms. Tea and real filter coffee facilities in room. Really friendly, well trained staff, lovely views, fabulous location - walk straight from here out into magnificent countryside or 5 mins walk to station on the Sheffield to Manchester line. Fabulous breakfast, superb 3 course nouvelle cuisine dinner in restaurant or more substantial bar food. Nice lounge to sit and chat in the evening and lovely gardens. A great place for a relaxing break - we will return and with our friends.

This hotel is rated as exceptional for a reason - there are no bad things to report. I am amazed it isn't more popular but I suspect the word will spread fairly quickly.

The location and the setting. Ideal for wedings and people visiting the county. Nice breakfasts, friendly staff and good gardens for the dog to walk/play and good parking area.

We had problems one night when it was very windy with a loud banging noise going on all night. We reported it and it did not happen again.

Good location to explore Peak District and for walking. Very good breakfast. Comfortable rooms.

modern decor in the cafe area and the lounge did not fit in with the rest of the ambience of the hotel. Better to have a nice log fire going and comfy sofas and chairs

This is a fabulous hotel in every way ~ we cannot recommend it highly enough. Staff are without fail helpful, friendly and professional. The rooms are luxurious and well appointed. The food is of a very high standard and caters for meat eaters and non equally well. It is set in a beautiful location, with walks from the front door. Our dog was also made very welcome. This was our second visit ~ we will defintely be back!

Really comfortable and warm room. Excellent location. Food was superb. Another reviewer slated the food, but must have got the wrong place. I'm really fussy and the quality of all our meals was second to none. Good beer too. Staff were incredibly helpful. They even sent someone to the shop when we realised we had forgotten toothbrushes.

Every member of the staff that we met was very friendly and very attentive. The food that we tried from the bar menu was great. Try the Bakewell beer! During breakfast in the restaurant I could not stop looking at the garden, it looks beautiful, even in winter.

There was no way to control the central heating in our room (no radiator, just a large pipe running through) and the window seemed locked so it was a bit too warm. The mattress on the bed was on the soft side.
