눉I didn't really know what 'boutique' meant! It's a style that I must admit I didn't particularly like, but I'm an old 'square' - no doubt, it'll appeal to many of a younger generation who enjoy 'bling'! The menu available in the bar was good and the food was excellent, but on our third night here, we ate in the highly AA rated restaurant, which I have to say was rather disappointing. For starters, we both enjoyed the scallops - the main courses were the problem. My new wife (we were on honeymoon) didn't much enjoy her steak, and my lamb was, initially, ludicrously underdone - cold and very bloody! After a return to the kitchen and re-presentation, it really wasn't much better: I ate a bit! The excellent restaurant manager realized I was far from delighted and, very decently, knocked the price of my main course off the bill. In conclusion, I think these highly acclaimed & rosetted restaurants try too hard, and with comparatively limited choice to boot. However, it just may have been an evening when the senior chefs were off. Overall, we considered The Maynard was fairly expensive - 3 nights in a superior room B&B + 2 evening meals (one in bar, one in restaurant) came to £770. I was surprised that if one chose a cooked breakfast rather than continental, there were additional charges. We didn't come across that in any of the other 4 hotels / B&Bs at which we stayed during our honeymoon tour.
눇Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, wonderful location, comfortable, a most interesting building - in fact a 'purpose-built' Edwardian hotel with little expense spared - delightful grounds, wonderful views. We wandered in to the function suite / wedding venue section (fairly separate from the hotel itself) which was a magnificent room with a pleasant separate garden area from the hotel for photography. Overall, out=r experience at this hotel was pleasant and amusing, if a little 'quirky' and not completely to our taste. But, each to their own - and the delightful staff made up for our amazement at the choice of decor and the slightly disappointing meal in the main restaurant,
