McLays tags itself as basic, I can live with basic, however this "Hotel" was sub-standard, entrance was grubby, carpeting was sticky. Booked an en-suite double room, you were lucky if you could swing a cat, the toilet had a very stale smell. The room was small, very poorly equipped, the bed was lumpy, after our night out we chose to leave and go home rather sleep in it, There were holes in the wall, dust and debris, cable ties on the "desk" (two pieces of wood screwed together) where the tea / coffee sat. The curtains were threadbare and hanging off the rail. We actually took pictures but I can't upload them here. The television only blurred on one channel, absolutey nothing on others despite a "freeview"box velcroed (badly to it) with no remote control. Disgrace of a "Hotel" - never again. Can't review breakfast as didn't hang around for it. But for being weary I would have requested a refund as even £10 would have been too much for this inadequate place. Do not book this hotel, and if you do...you have been warned, I am sure there are better hostels out there than this dump.

Location was very central - easy for shopping and travel to secc. Clean, warm room. Breakfast sufficient for our needs to start off the day. The door from reception through to bedrooms on ground floor always banged shut when guests walked through. We were on the ground floor near this door so woken up a few times when late night guests returned home.

The location was perfect. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was very good and food service staff were excellent. The facility however was pretty tired and sparse but good value for the money.

The location was excellent. A 5 minute walk to Sauchiehall Street and a 20 minute walk to the secc. There was nothing at all on the website or on the confirmation to say that it was a shared bathroom and we had to pay an extra £10 when we got there for an en-suite room. The tv did not work, we had 1 towel between the 2 of us, the window did not open and the room was very hot. The place just needed a bit of decorating and the corridors are very maze like. Our 'full English breakfast' consisted of egg, bacon and beans. Very poor false advertising. I would rather pay the extra £20 or so to say somewhere a lot more comfortable than this.

Comfortable bedroom and excellent breakfast The painting at the corridors seemed rather tacky and unattractive. Plain colours like magnolia would have made it posh

Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were simple, clean and fine. Location was excellent. OVerall very good value for money. As our book said, perhaps the best of the guest houses along Renfrew Street, Glasgow. Rooms were small. Shower pressure was weak. Wi-fi didn't work, despite valient efforts of the staff.

The staff at McLays are friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was very good and plenty of it. (A good start to the day.) The guest house is fairly well situated to the shops, bars and restaurants although, not exactly central. Mclays is ideal if you are on a budgeted stay. Although the room a was given was large and clean, the guest house itself is a little run down and is in need of some modernisation, but the price is very good compared to some the hotels in the centre Glasgow.

It wasn't too far from the city centre The building was a bit shabby and we had a water pipe running down the wall in the bedroom which was noisy at all times of the day

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was better than I expected for the price it was, particularly given the central location. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Stayed at this Guest House for 20+ years, always enjoyed my stay. Poor tv reception/choice of channels, understand this to be a problem with other premises in the locality but not handy if you want to relax in front of telly after a hard days shopping. There were only 6 channels available,3 sports,2 American sitcoms(old) and 1 news channel, poor selection.

Cheap considering the location. Basically comfortable. Really friendly staff. Pretty windows. Fun times. The place needs some maintenance. For example, the tiles were cracked and loose on the bathroom floor.
