The only thing I liked about McLays Guest House was the price and even then it was debatable if it justified even the low cost. In my opinion McLays Guest House is the shoddiest, most badly maintained most ill equipped Guest House I have ever had the misfortune to stay in. The walls were cracked, black mould on the windows which were permanantly covered in condensation , the radiator did not work in either of 2 rooms (I was advised later that they did work it was just that they took some time to work!!!!), the TV did not work properly- I have never stayed anywhere before where basic BBC was not available (this was expalined by the Digital/analogue switch over - peculiar as it was recieving Sky Sports!!), the food was very greasy ie eggs dripping fat. It also has the added joy of having a nearby nightclub booming away into the late early hours without the benefit of any double glazing. I will never set foot there again and would recommend others not to do so. It also has very steep steps and no lifts. It is cheap and you can see why.

I'd definetely recommend McLays to anyone who is looking for a cheap accomadation. It was cheap, room was clean and comfortable and the staff was always friendly. And don't forget that its really close to buchanan bus station and sauchiehall street :) Breakfast was maybe not so full of diversity but it was more than enough for me, especially for this price.

Room was basic, but clean and warm, comfortable beds, hot shower lovely breakfast and staff was always polite. I would go back to the McLays guest house. Some reviews can be off putting (go with an open mind and think about how much you pay for your stay before complaining) I had a pleasant stay THANK YOU to all the staff at McLays 8)) The McLays Guest house is an old building and does need updating (windows etc) but this didn't affect my stay. There is quite a steep hill to get to the guest house and a few steps, if you turn right when leaving, you will find that it isn't that steep to walk around.

It was a great loccation for going into Town. Only thing i would say about room was the TV channles you recieved, as i was staying with my 6yr old we were back to room in the early evening & dissapointed that you only got sky sports & sky 1, it would of been nice to get the normal 1-5 channels.

It was close to the Glasgow School of Art, and it was quite inexpensive. WiFi was free but available only in the dining room. Staff were a bit dour but helpful nonetheless. There were a lot of hills between it and the main train station: they should recommend one go to the Charing Cross station which requires climbing only one his with your suitcases.

This guest house is ideal for a quick city break, shopping trip basically anything on a tight budget. Facilities are exactly what you need, Desk, Bed, Lamp,Tea/coffee, good bathrooms. Room was good sized. Can not complain for the price was a decent wee place and will be back if need be. Breakfast wasnt the best, but its a free breakfast, As much toast and tea and cereal that you can handle . Fry up was a bit off but im a fussy eater when my mums fry us are the best.

Mclays had very few redeeming features. One of the four i spoke to was helpful and knew what she was doing. Where do i start? The exterior upon arrival is awful and the interior reception area is no better. Reception staff looked like they needed a good wash, which doesn't bode well for the rooms. The rabbit warren of a building is difficult to navigate and no attempt is made by the reception staff to help direct you to your room. The corridors of this hotel, from paint work to carpets make you feel like the building is ready for demolition and quite frankly, it should be. The rooms were a varying degree of unsanitary nitemare. One of our group failed to sleep because of the overwhelming smell of faeces in his room. The walls were paper thin. Regardless of whether a B n B is cheap, it doesn't excuse the place being unclean. Would i recommend this place to people seeking a cheap place to stay in Glasgow? Considering this is the worse place i have ever stayed, which is quite a claim seeing as i have travelled consistently on business for over ten years, i will be going out of my way to do the opposite. Just say no, kids!

My room was very clean and very big for a single room. The breakfast was fantastic. Carpet in Hall way worn out and hall way needs a bit of painting, looks very old. The television in my room was not working but all in all I enjoyed my stay.

It met our needs for a central location with an excellent breakfast and we were quite satisfied and have booked for our next visit to the City. The corridors and carpets could do with a lick of paint/cleaning but we were satisfied

It was clean and professionally run. It served a full cooked breakfast in an efficient and friendly manner. They gladly let me leave my baggage very securely until my evening train connection. I should inform that to get to the hotel one has to walk up a short but very steep one-block-long hill. It was a challenge with heavy baggage although a friendly passerby helped.

Friendly staff, great rooms, super breakfast, great location. Excellent value for money. Waiting to get key back on return from going out but costs involved in changing locks to modern type would make stay more expensive so can wait a wee while :-)

I booked this room online for around £52 and once I arrived they charged me at the beginning of my stay. I was then told to leave my luggage in the "restaurant" and return at 2pm it was now 1 pm. When I entered the room it was like walking into a hotel room from before I was born the cups where dirtt the beds where uncomfortable the tv had 2 channels controlled by staff. Also I noticed that the stale smell of sewers was lingering in the room and the shower had enough room to only stand and spin round. I would not reccomend this place to anyone that has any sort of standards. I booked this room online for around £52 and once I arrived they charged me at the beginning of my stay. Everything was perfect. The staff were really friendly. There is always hot water and everymorning there was English breakfast. Even more the staff were cheerful and service-oriented. The hotel was at the heart of Glasgow and is at the walking distance to the center of attraction. Next time I go to Glasgow, I will not think of staying anywhere else. Thanks guys. The internet access is limited as it is at the dining place but that did not create any problem at all.
