easy access to shops
attitude of receptionist on reporting faults.there was a terrible smell of sewer on ground floor close to restaurant.better breakfast at battersey dogs home eg bacon and sausage under cooked.i have traveled and used hotels and guesthouses in the uk and the eu with my work and i rate this acomodation as one of the worst.
We were through on a night out and McLays is a great place to stay, great value and nice and central. It does the job. Def be back.
The breakfast on Sunday could finish a little later
Location and friendly staff
Shared bathrooms, very dated and needed a big makeover/renovations
Staff very helpful and nice, good breakfast and a good nights sleep
The location was the only good aspect of the hotel.
A group of 8 of us were going to Glasgow for my partners birthday. We arrived and the rooms were dirty furniture was Brocken - but we didn't expect it to be amazing as it was quite cheaply priced. A bed was broken in one of the rooms - we just sat on it and the whole bed sunk through- our mistake not to inspect the bed we did not report it. We were then charged £100 because of this and after explaining to the hotel staff they had said the bed was not broken before we arrived. Please let us know if you were in room 50 the family room and this happened to you. We think they are at it!! Never going back.
Good location, nice staff serving breakfast and the breakfast itself was good (I was half-expecting to be poisoned).
Decrepit and unclean-looking room, window was jammed, and the roof seemed to be sagging.
The staff were very cheerful and friendly, the breakfast was good, the bed very comfy and the rooms and toilet facilities very clean, the rooms are well heated. You are made very welcome by all the staff and I will book another stay at the hotel ...
The noise from the outside, my room was facing the main street and I heard all the traffic and the music from the club across the street. it would be good for the hotel to get double glazing for the front rooms .
The wifi is good, I could watch tv drama smoothly and skype with my friend. Breakfast and service are nice.
As everything is fine/acceptable, if I really need to say something not good, breakfast hour is a bit short, no lock in the toilet, and shampoo and shower gel are cheap
Good price and location. Excellent breakfast. Have been regulars for the last 7 years and have never had reason to complain.
hotel was in good location for theatre and shops. Staff were friendly and helpful and a cooked breakfast was included in price all in all a good hotel for an overnight stay
Overall was pretty clean and, contrary to what some reviewers say, the wifi worked perfectly in my bedroom. The location is phenomenal and I never felt unsafe or unsure during my stay. I stayed in a single room with a shared bathroom and the bathroom (one of two) on my floor was in good condition and I never actually even saw anybody else use it. All the staff were quite friendlyl
Definitely looked pretty run down and the bed wasn't very comfortable. Frankly, for your money's worth there are definitely better options nearby. After my one night here I had another reservation at a different guest house just a few buildings down and for $15 more a night the difference in quality is outstanding. If you are short on options then McLay's definitely isn't bad, but I'm glad that I will be staying at a different hotel for the rest of my stay.
Good location, pleasant staff, good value for money. Effective free wi-fi. Good breakfast.
Poor reception on some tv channels.
This hotel awesome.location is very beautiful.everything is very near.very clean and tidy.all staff is very polite.room is quiet, good wifi.would defiantly stay again.
Location perfect price more then acceptable bed comfy room warm breakfast delicious
Shower could be warmer
Well-priced. A good breakfast provided. Very good wi-fi service. Comfortable bed, hot water.
Location not ideal, but it can't be helped due to the slopes and contours of the city. It is still quite close to the Buchanan bus station, and to a whole variety of eating places. I did not like the fact that the hotel didn't have a single map of the city ("Oops, we ran out!"). And I was directed to Buchanan bus station to their information desk, and they didn't have one either! Maybe it was just not my lucky day, but it was a sad welcome for this first-timer to Glasgow. Rooms rather small, and walls do not keep out the noise from adjacent rooms. Thankfully the two nights I spent, the other guests piped down by about 10 pm or so.
Hotel badly needs refurbishment smell throughout the stairwell carpets were so dirty and stairs were extremely steep and the lift only holds one person at a time
Breakfast (1st day ok, 2nd day very good) Bed comfy Room and bathroom clean TV in room very central
First impression when you enter hotel lobby is that the carpet looks dirty and we were worried about rooms (but they were clean) Hotel needs refurbishment
Friendly staff. Easy walking distance to shops.
Noise from nearby club which goes until 3am. Hotel a bit tired and dated - could do with refurbishment No wardrobe
Stayed here before - about 5yrs ago - it is now much improved. Its had a refurb and although the bedroom is basic the ensuite was new, but the room was spotless. We were up in the Gods so a few stairs to climb to get to our room but not a problem for us. Its pretty central Glasgow so allow for noisy revellers making their way home - think its in Student land too. Hotel provides vouchers for on street parking. We booked last minute as going to see Bryan Adams at the Hydro but - Scotland was playing Ireland so accommodation in Glasgow was at a premium and I did feel we paid over a £100 for a basic guest house - however breakfast was fine and the rooms were spotless also the staff were cheerful and helpful. Would stay again if price was right!
Staff very nice
Price not to good felt the hotel could have been a bit cleaner shared bathroom filthy
Shared Bathroom could be better.Difficult to lock bedroom door.
did enjoy the guest house, Staff very helpful. breakfast in the morning lovely. No complaints!
Nothing to complain about.
