Staff, who I think were the owners, were friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. The 1st room we were given was very dirty - bathroom mirror covered in dirt, underside of toilet seat splashed with excrement, no toilet paper, toilet did not flush. We were moved to another, nicer room which was better but still not spotlessly clean. Hotel generally a bit shabby, and very expensive for what it was. I can understand that the owners of a hotel cannot do much about its location, and can't do much in the short term about its condition, but there is no excuse for dirty rooms, which would only require a few minutes extra effort to make them cleaner.

The staff / owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Very comfortable and pleasant surroundings in the Hotel. The hotel was a bit isolated from any other activities for the evening ( dinner or a drink outside was a drive away)

Comfortable bed, very good food for dinner, friendly service. Needs a little maintenance - a number of lights were not working in the room and public areas, no rubber mat in shower over bath.

Staff were nice and friendly. Lovely big room. It was on a road, which surprised me as the picture on booking .com gave the impression that it stood in large grounds. It could do with an update. Although rooms were nice, for £140 per night for a double and breakfast, I considered this expensive for this hotel.

Good quality, well appointed room, albeit a bit small for two people. Breakfasts were great and breakfast staff very friendly with excellent service. Location. From pictures on Booking.com I got the impression that the property was in a garden setting, almost in the countryside, but it is located in a residential area on the street overlooking homes. Whilst the hotel itself is well maintained, the driveway to the parking area is in disrepair and the back of the property seems neglected.

Great building in a nice village. Poor plumbing meant that i had to have a cup of tea and watch tv until the bath had filled, public areas felt a bit like an old peoples home.

There were lovely touches - eg, friendly staff and atmosphere, home-made fruit salad for breakfast every day - but we often visit a B&B in Exeter (Raffles) where value for money is much better. For instance toast at MM is from thin, standard-sliced bread, whereas at Raffles it is from local baker, unsliced and very tasty. Biggest problem at MM is proximity to farm with many flies, and therefore need to keep windows sealed, making rooms stuffy, despite ventilation facilities. ALSO, VERY HARD BEDS!!! Price per room should really be lower, considering problems. see above

Very well situated for one of my activities that weekend - birdwatching on two superb nature reserves within a couple of miles of the hotel. Also pretty close to Wells, where I attended two special services at the Cathedral - and Wells and Glastonbury (even closer to Meare) have a lot of other tourist attractions. My room had everything I needed and the one meal I had, breakfast, was well worthy of the reward it had recently received. Old buildings like the Manor don't always adapt well to modern hotel use. The lock to my room door had got mis-aligned, though the manager did demonstrate how to get it to work, and it was no harder to operate than many electronic card locks in chain hotels. I thought the two bedside lamps weren't working, until I discovered an apparently unrelated wall switch several feet away. Breakfast on Sunday was supposed to be served from 8.30, a bit late for my needs, so I was a bit miffed to turn up at 8.30 and find several other guests there and already eating.

The welcome was warm, the room was comfortable and contained everything that we wanted. The breakfast would suit all tastes due to the variety on offer.Lounge was spacious and a great place to relax.Homemade jams and pickles were available to purchase and snacks were available to purchase at any time.A quiet location very close to Wells,Glastonbury and Cheddar.Would certainly stay again.
